Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Quality varies
Florence Pugh and Chris Pine were amazing and convincing. Olivia Wilde and Gemma Chan were good supporting characters. Harry Styles just unfortunately IMHO couldn't keep up with the rest of the cast, and it shows in every scene except the dance-scene. I otherwise think Harry is a great singer/songwriter and performer, but he just couldn't compare to likes of just about everyone else acting in this movie. Im kind of assuming he was supposed to play this doofus dudebro who is obviously not cutting it for his girlfriend in the real world, but the point is, it doesn't seem like it is well-acted, intentional, yet subtle doofusness that is guiding the viewer in the direction of realizing Florence's and Harry's characters aren't really meant to be, but just shows his lack of acting experience of in general just lack of direction. I mean, the film is watchable, the script is good and entertaining, but Harry's acting is just breaking the immersion for me.
Ghost Whisperer: Cursed (2009)
Potholes
The atmosphere was spooky, Michelle Page's performance was believable, and I really thought we would get to see some practical magic introduced to the world of Melinda Gordon. However, the aunt's attempts at witchcraft were not at all explained and just ignored by the end of the episode. Additionally, the writers built up the plot by insinuating that the aunt lied about the money and property taxes - this plot line also completely vanishes by the time they confront the ghosts and the aunt.
Very promising beginning and a very good build-up, but unfortunately a lukewarm finish. The show in general has a way of leading the story line into "everyone is a good person deep down" kind of trope (which I don't mind), but usually we do get some decent villains here and then. This would have been such an amazing villain-witch episode, if they committed to it.
Love & Other Drugs (2010)
Too long and unbelievable
Too many unnecessary sex scenes and overall nudity.
It seems like they wrote 2 different films and smashed them together. One is a beautiful story about a woman accepting her PD and her boyfriend coming to terms with loving someone unconditionally. The second is a story about drug-reps and doctors attending orgies and having to baby an extremely inappropriate brother. I personally don't think the two story arches blended well.
Additionally, the film just went on and on.
P. S. I don't know any woman who would say "yes" to a date with a man who basically illegally obtained her phone number after sexually harassing her (yeah, pretending you're a doctor and then observing someone's private parts is usually harassment, unless you're Jamie Randall).
West Side Story (2021)
Unnecessary
Was this a necessary remake? The production, choreography, music and costumes all feel very well done. Core of the script is very much identical to previous version and production and at this point in time done so many times, so I wasn't thrilled that the plot line didnt bring anything new.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
A solid new take
I don't get all the hate. I started to watch the film expecting nothing much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The film is a good attempt on a classic story. There were plenty of funny bits, original jokes and references to the originals to make it interesting. I give it a thumbs up.
Hubie Halloween (2020)
Funny-ish, Sandler's voice is ruining it
Sandler's ridiculous voice and an unnecessary abundance of practical thermos-gimmicks kinda ruined what could have been a fun, goofy Halloween film. The story flow was overall okay imho, and I didn't see that ending coming! I think the supporting cast did a great job. However, the main character is poorly written and executed, we never get to see why does the main character behave the way he does (you'd think that one would stop being scared of silly pranks at some point). At the same time the amount of grown ups willing to bully a person who most likely isn't entirely neurotypical is even more confusing and takes away from the plot.
