The Devil Inside (2012)
The Devil Inside- Scary, not thrilling. Funny, not hilarious
This movie is hard for me to decide whether it is good, reasonable, or just not what it could be. Seeing it alone I felt as though I was making a bad decision, that I would end up wishing that I would have brought a friend. But, with the couple horizontal in front of me as a side note, the movie didn't really scare me as I had thought it would have. Yes, it is completed with scenes that surely have the ability to make you jump, the movie really isn't scary as it's more interesting than horrifying. Exorcisms are a dirty, difficult act as proved by this movie. The equipment, number of people, and the location are all things that all need to be considered in depth. Especially for a person who knows nothing about the work, as in Isabella Rossi whose mother killed three people while an exorcism was being performed on her. Her mother Maria is kept in an institution in Italy to keep her under control from what is suspected of her. As the hospital workers think it is merely insanity, the truth is, Maria is somehow possessed by a demon, and has been for years before. As she explains in the beginning, Isabella has always known something was seriously wrong with her troubled mother but she never exactly understood it until she found out her mother and the three murders, especially becoming concerned after learning that an exorcism was being performed upon her. Any regular person would freak at finding something out about their mother such as this, but Isabella treats it as though it's cancer her mothers going through, not insanity from possession by a demon. Demons in the world is an ongoing topic in the world, yet those who actually do believe in them merely think of them as harmless, not at all raging, killing machines. But aside from all this, the movie (in documentary form) goes on to tell the story of trying to help the mother escape the grasp of this so called demon. Experiencing an exorcism is first up for Maria to prepare to begin helping her mother. Crazy yet on-spot, the first exorcism goes on and on, not really having an outcome of any kind. But not long after this event, as it seems in the movie anyhow, they go to the hospital to try and perform an actual exorcism on Maria. But being against the law for the exorcists to perform such an exorcism, the stakes are high and the two exorcists don't really know what to expect after they finish it. Finding out the true death of the three victims in the first attempt to perform the exorcism is when things really begin to get risky as they find out that they died by the demon within Maria, but not physically. In the end, the violent end that is, it becomes hard to decide whether it was actually a good movie at all, but after a couple days of seeing the movie I've decided that the movie is fairly good, but again, more interesting than scary or even entertaining.
