Like the previous poster, I was concerned that they'd blow it with this one. However, after viewing the 6 aired episodes I was pleasantly surprised about how much I liked it. This series is somewhat episodic but there an overall arcing story about Carl that keeps you looking for a big baddie which killed his wife. However, it is so different from the original series - with a more somber, serious tone; Kolchak having some allies; the LA setting and lacking Darren MacGavin's quick wit - that it really didn't need to tied to the original series at all. I look at this remake like I do with the new Galactica series - different and more adult but both series old and new are enjoyable for what they are.
ABC should have put it on Tuesday which is weak this year and maybe it would have found an audience.
