Boring, poor acting, unoriginal
18 January 2021
I was very unimpressed with this film. Firstly, the mockumentary effect only works if the actors are able to act like real human beings. The acting in the film is awful. The fake crying is so bad I had to stop the movie halfway through and fast forward through the rest. The storyline is dull, repetitive, and unoriginal.

Not funny

If you enjoy adult humour then this is the movie for you. Cheap humour tactics with no real thought behind it.

Weak storyline & predictable scare tactics
23 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It is very difficult to find modern horror movies that don't use the same old scare tactics that we have seen a million times before. A pretty teenage girl getting dragged across the floor by an unseen entity. Bed covers pulled off a sleeping child by a spirit that takes shape under the sheets. A blooded spirit in an old-fashioned wedding dress. Annabelle Comes Home offers nothing fresh to the diehard horror fans that crave a unique angle to the genre - like Hereditary, Mother!, Us, and Get Out. Annabelle Comes Home was more about cramming as many of the cliched monsters into 2 hours than it is about maintaining an interesting storyline. No attempt at originality.

Weak and lazy attempt at horror
1 September 2019
I was angry after I watched this movie as I feel it was a lazy attempt at horror that insults the genre with its lack of originality. Poor character development, overused scare tactics and a weak storyline. The only thumbs up is that it is set in Morocco.

Do not watch this movie alone...
18 March 2012
I watch horror movies on a weekly basis and frankly I have grown tired of all the latest trends in horror films. Most of them consist of two hours of screaming while attractive, hormonally-charged young students get brutally tortured by disfigured hillbillies. Yawn. The 'cringe' factor is not entertainment. Who wants to spend money on a movie you can't bare to watch?

Geared with low expectations and a bowl of popcorn I decided to give Grave Encounters a go. Anticipating a minimal scare factor,I didn't think twice about watching it by myself. However, as the film progressed I started locking doors, switching on lights and making arbitrary phone calls to take the edge off. The combination of hand-held camera work, limited lighting and incredibly frightening ghosts had me looking over my shoulder for hours after watching it.

Surprisingly the unfamiliar actors and actress had me gripped in a tense and realistic chasm of emotions, especially Ashleigh Gryzko's believable performance. This film has the cinematographic suspense of Paranormal Activity 3 and will leave you on the edge of your seat up until the very end.

Give it a try... go on.

Promised Land (2002)

A gripping film with beautiful visuals and an eerie undertone.
22 January 2012
With captivating performances and breathtaking cinematography the film holds a silent intensity that draws the viewer into an emotional journey.

Promised Land carries an eerie undertone that the viewer shares with the main character as he unravels the dark secrets of the small Afrikaner community he tries to escape from.

A truly emotional and gripping experience that builds up to an ending that is both shocking and beautiful. This film brings to life the images of photographer Roger Ballen who portrays certain Afrikaners as a deeply disturbed community inhibited by old fashioned traditions and xenophobic tendencies. It is definitely worth a watch!
