Breakthrough (2019)
I Expected This Film To Be Trite....
I have a new favorite movie! My heart was touched and challenged in so many ways by this true story. The premise for this film is simple, I was concerned that it would be trite. FAR FROM IT. Every moment weaves together a very complex tale of life's struggles and doubts. It gives no simple answers, yet literally brings to life hope, love and forgiveness like no film I can remember. I love the main character, the Mom. She is so strong and so caring, yet learns to be strong and caring in new ways. I would call this a Must See movie! We saw a noon showing on Tuesday and the theatre was pretty much full.
The Resurrection of Gavin Stone (2017)
A Really Fun Film
The acting was really good on this film. Not just the main people, but many of the secondary characters are really unique and funny. The film builds and gets better as it goes along. I cried and laughed out-loud more than once. This is not an all time classic, it is predictable, but I still loved it! IMDb says I have to write more so here is some bonus:o) The radio host who interviews Gavin Stone is amazing! He is only in a 2 minute scene but his personality and bright red hair are embedded in my memory. I don't think the cast has any A list actors, but many are in productions I have heard of or seen such as Mad TV, The Middle & WWF. Go see this one!
3 Blind Saints (2011)
Funny and touching
This is a crazy premise, where the judge puts these cons in charge of a church for their rehabilitation. Soon into the movie I bought into the characters and found the wild plot a lot of fun. I really did laugh out-loud several times. Loved all the hypocritical church members and other commentaries on our society. This is very different from any other Christian film I have ever seen. Richard Speight Jr is a natural for the Pastor, he wants to have fun, then wants to do a good job but so funny how he says bizarre prayers and practices counseling people, love it! Victor Raider-Wexler makes a great judge, and Murry Gershen as the insulting bailiff. Irma P. Hall as Sister Louise is very convincing as the loving caring true Christian who is willing to help rather than judge and control like everyone else. Thumbs up!
