Really disappointed, hoped for more of a message
6 June 2018
It was my husband of 54 years idea to see this movie, having only gone on the information of just who was in it.. but not having any idea what it was about. He turned to me, half way through and said "This is a girls movie"... da And I only went because HE wanted to see it. I think he thought it was more on the lines of the movie "Somethings Gotta Give". I love all but one (Jane Fonda) of the actresses in this movie. Being that I am the same generation of most of them I thought I could relate to the subject matter these women seemed to be encountering...but, aside from a few laughs, the message it conveyed to me made me depressed, not happy and I left the theater sadder then I went in. Maybe its because times have changed to much for me to see the "fun" in message they are trying to convey here. Online dating, sex on the first date, etc It may be the "thing" to do for the younger, high tech generation but I like the old school ways. (Obviously, having been married this long) I like to think that I keep up with the times and I understand looking for love and a partner to share life with but to begin your search by reading a soft porn book to "light your fires again" just turned me -off-. I think we are better then that. Sorry, this one is -not- a keeper. To bad, I was hoping for more from this.

A old classic but very memorable film for me
29 June 2015
I first saw this film years ago, when rather young. Those were the days of black and white productions and severe censorship. But movies back then, to me, had substance and didn't rely on special effects, violence or sex to sell them. This movie made a very lasting impression on me. I have never forgotten it and have even searched for years for a copy of the film to see again.

It was the life journey of a married couple, and it only took place in one room...their bedroom. Each scene was separated by years, and each was a poignant moment in their lives together. Young love, loss, betrayal, and finally loneness and death. It was in many ways sad but the ending was up lifting.

Rex Harrison was wonderful in this old film.

Just wish I could find a copy of it to keep. At this stage of my own married life (50 years) I understand it so much better, but as a young girl it taught me many things about the trials of keeping lasting relationships together.

A waste of my time
10 March 2015
Based on a review I heard on TV of it being a good film I went and saw it today. Half way through the film I wanted to walk out. The beginning had possibilities, but it went all down hill after that. I couldn't connect to the characters, nor was the story line very good and the movie dragged. It didn't hold my interest and in the end it felt like I watched a cheap elaborate video game for some kids. The language was horrible with the F bomb thrown throughout, even in the music at the end. What a huge waste of time and money. When are they ever going to make a GOOD Sci-Fi film that comes across as believable and holds your imagination????? And makes you feel like you have a brain in your skull that you can use to think with?? This one was laughable.

Sex Tape (2014)

A dark day for so called comedy
23 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Looking for comedy in a movie these days is like slogging through a deep, dark quagmire filled with Directors trying to out do themselves in profanity, nudity, greed and drug use and push the limits of shock... all the things "we" want to see....NOT.

What ever happened to comedy that makes you -think-, instead of a constant bombardment of mindless, infantile dribble thrown at you.

Yes, I am from the "stone age" and believe in good material and brilliant writers...and true classic comedy, light hearted or even a little dark, with some really good laughs. I'm not a puritan and an occasional swear word or two I can handle, as long as the story is a -good- one.

Not only was I numb from all the F words, etc. but the moment that really turned me off to this whole story line was when the parents, searching to delete their Sex tape, hunts down the headquarters of the porn company to break in and smash their operating system, -BUT- they have to bring their two young children along with them.

GREAT, now they have to have the whole family involved. (Its not bad enough that their close friends pre-teen son is trying to blackmail them with the tape first, oh no..) And after the porn King finds out that the children are there, every thing goes from "kill the parents", to "oh such sweet kids...we have to let you go, because we have kids too"...really??!! Give me a break...daaaaa.

I think that part of the film just crossed the line for me. We have sunk to a new level in so called "humor". If adults want to do something stupid and totally immoral, fine, but leave the idea of kids out of it. A pretend story, yes,... pretend kids...yes, but totally wrong in moral concept and tack.

A world of knowledge
29 March 2014
I knew little about the Fair, even though I was aware it took place in my city back in the late 1800's. This film is packed with all the information you could possibly give to someone in the time allowed. I first got hooked on Chicago history and Architecture after reading the book "Devil in the White City". I have seen articles from that period of time at the Chicago Historical Society and have been to Graceland cemetery to see the graves of the Architects how planned and helped build the Fair and many of the buildings that still stand in downtown Chicago.

So when the film started I already had some insight into the circumstances and people responsible for bringing the Fair to Chicago. I knew that one of the buildings still stood, the Museum of Science and Industry, having gone there many, many times as a child but never could even imagine the scope and size that the Fair entailed. Now when I venture into that part of the city my imagination will see, in my minds eye, the ghostly beauty of the buildings that once were there and the people who attended it. I think it is a wonderful film to watch. A little long and drawn out, but still filled with the Magic that once was the "White City" of Chicago.
