The Lost Valentine (2011)
Great Cast, Great Plot, a Proud Movie
What an outstanding movie about a difficult time in history. Everyone in the cast displayed excellent acting abilities; absolutely believable. The people at Hallmark earn my business with their outstanding contributions - this being one of them, and one of the best.
I really like Ms. White and she does (as the rest of the cast) a marvelous job...I would very much like to think of her in real life as this character, NOT what I have seen on Saturday Night Live or Lake Placid. She does not need vulgarity to be a great actress, especially in her twilight years...
Only glaring mistakes - watch for them - using the small 50-star flags in a few scenes instead of the 48-star flag, correct for the period. And as for the Philippine village scene, well it looks like the tropical rain-forest about as much as my back yard in Indiana!!! These are very small nit-picky things in comparison to how fantastic and enjoyable this movie was. Thank you Hallmark, you always send out "The Very Best"!!!
Sickness House (2006)
No words to describe this trash
I cannot believe how slow my chapter skip button was on my DVD player. After watching 10 minutes of this movie, I finished the rest in about 11 more minutes jumping chapters just to see if the whole movie was this awful. The actors (?) clearly did not know their lines (?) the script was written by someone below junior high level and the entire movie shot on obviously a home movie camera. Another review states that it was laughable but I could not even see this in this bottom of the barrel swill and backwash. I would rather watch a urinal run dry than this again. Everything was so wretchedly bad I just warn you to NOT rent this movie unless you have a visitor at your house you want to leave!
Category 7: The End of the World (2005)
For a made for TV movie it is OK; Great French Scenes Too!
I think many of the reviews I have read are by far too critical reviewers. Remember this is made on a network budget and lots of computer effects, and some quite good.
I too spotted the anti-Bush commentary - hey - was that bad politician supposed to be our real life vice president or what? One good part that I really had fun with was the scenes in Paris; one only hopes that other good things "rain" down on the French! Maybe the storms will help put all those burning car fires out...uhhhhhmmm...
Just a wise word to those who take these kind of movies apart with their lengthy critiques...get a life folks. This was not supposed to equal Lawrence of Arabia.
All in all it was OK to watch once and that it, just like many other movies at the cinema and on TV.
Because of Winn-Dixie (2005)
A Three Year Old's First Movie
Today, I took my three year old to see her first movie. This, you must understand is a task, as you must always be careful about language and "mature" situations that so many people today see as normal.
I am not going to give a synopsis of the movie, as most of the other reviewers do. Go see the movie yourself. I will only say that both my daughter and myself were totally engrossed with this touching and well-played story. The characters were very enjoyable and I thought the actors did a fine job.
I noticed that everyone in the audience, children along with their parents had big smiles on their faces as we all got up to leave at the movie's end. I really enjoyed this movie, and so did my young daughter.
Trespassing (2004)
Poor, poor, poor film
Stop and think about it...did anyone NOT notice the "old haunted house" that on the outside looked like it just came off one of those new siding commercials, yet the inside looked abandoned? Who was mowing the lawn and taking care of the flowers by the steps - hey this is in the swamps and grass grows year long.
Some of the reviewers comments, especially the ones that rated this film a "10" well, yeah, I used to smoke that stuff too before going to a movie...
I was surprised to see the soundtrack in Dolby, not Ultra-Stereo or some other second rate sound system. Did anyone notice how s-l-o-w the end credits rolled and that horrible sound (some call music) that went with the end credits?
10.5 (2004)
Poor Poor Poor
There is only one part of this epic that I like. The entire west coast offices of NBC (spoiler alert!!!!!) were swallowed up and are now under water, where the original negatives of this movie should be.
I have read the other comments and I too was about to go crazy with the shaky zoom in -zoom out shots all through this film. I had to go get one of those new patches that go behind your ear to keep from getting motion sickness.
Here is the technical stuff: Why oh why was this epic NOT in high definition???? More and more of us have the digital sets and all the other networks make these kinds of events (?) available in high definition. Also, where was the audio?? I heard very basic stereo that had less separation between channels than an 8-track. Where was the low frequency effects channel with all that earthquake rumble??? You know, maybe with better audio and picture, all the other negatives could be overlooked. Well, maybe not entirely overlooked....
I also concur that the daughter character should have been dropped down one of the fault lines along with her inhaler. What an absolutely annoying and obnoxious character. Actually, they were all annoying and obnoxious.
Oh, and lastly, (spoiler alert!!!) just like a scene in the movie Independence Day, the doctor is in Tent City (the refugee camps from the entire southern CA west coast with hundreds of thousands of people) just walks around and finds his family just like that!!! REALLY !!!!
I think I know who wrote the script, she is also a student in my two year old daughters day care...
