The Carol Burnett Show: Ken Berry and Nanette Fabray (1970)
Ken Berry "Mr. Bojangles"
This was the episode where Ken Berry sang and danced to "Mr. Bojangles." I LOVE The Carol Burnett Show, but I an generally NOT a fan of song and dance numbers. I always watched it for the comedic skits. That said, the "Mr. Bojangles" segment was GREAT, especially when Ken Berry was singing. His dancing was also impressive. To me, usually when Ken Berry (or Alan Alda or Roddy McDowell) was in an episode, it would range from not very good to mediocre. THIS IS THE EXCEPTION.
For me, the mark of a great episode of The Carol Burnett Show, is one that starred Tim Conway or Steve Lawrence. This episode is right up there with the best of those because of Ken Berry's singing and dancing to "Mr. Bojangles". EXCELLENT.
RIP Ken Berry, this was exceptionally good and memorable. 👍👍
The Munsters (2022)
Not As Bad As I Thought It Was Going To Be.
First, I LOVE the original Munsters (10/10). I was always a fan, ever since seeing the show on TV in its original broadcast. I have all of the DVDs and watch them once a year.
Therefore, I was apprehensive about this 2022 movie by Rob Zombie, especially after seeing what he did with Halloween and Halloween II. Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) are two of my all-time favorites.
However, I was able to get into The Munsters (2022) and I appreciate the work that went into it. Nobody can come close to Yvonne de Carlo or Fred Gwynn, but the guy who played Grandpa came decently close to the mark. Not bad. Overall 7 out of 10.
At least I didn't hate the movie, like I did with the 2005 War of the Worlds remake. What's the most annoying sound in the world? It's Dakota Fanning screaming for the whole stupid movie. ARGH! I kept open the aliens would eat her, just to shut her up.
Supernatural (2005)
Overall, A Good Show, Except for the God As A Writer, Garbage.
The God (Chuck) as a writer, stuff ruined it for me. However, the last two episodes were a good wrap-up and were satisfying. I have all of the DVD season sets, though I doubt that I'll ever rewatch the show, now, just because I'm trying to FORGET the God as a writer, arc.
The best episodes are the standalone ones. I'm glad that things worked out for Garth.
Supernatural: Drag Me Away (From You) (2020)
Good Episode Except For Two Weak Points
1. When Caitlin rushed out of the room, Sam should have followed right after her and stayed close to her. Instead, Sam was too engrossed in what was on the computer screen AND with listening to the sound of his own voice. It was IMMEDIATELY OBVIOUS to me that he should have gone after her instead of just sitting on his butt. I have no idea how he couldn't have seen her leave in his peripheral vision. Doofus!
2. Sam highly overreacts, in way overblown melodrama, when Dean tells him that Jack is going to die when they attempt to kill Chuck, and that Dean held that back from Sam since before they left on this trip, sitting on it for a couple days. First, Sam is angry and then he pouts. This is one thing that I'm not going to miss about Supernatural, the over the top melodrama between Sam and/or Dean and/or Castiel. Man, I thought Sam was suffering from PMS. I could almost hear "Feelings, whoa whoa whoa feelings...." playing in the background.
Babylon 5: Shadow Dancing (1996)
First B5 Episode That I Ever Saw. I was immediately hooked.
I felt like I was there on the Whitestar. It was everything that Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Voyager were not. It was exciting, it had great effects, and better writing. It felt real. Suspending disbelief was easy.
I'd been a Star Trek fan ever since the first episode, The Man Trap, in Sept. 1966, watching on a 19" Black & White Zenith TV. I had my own Bring Back Star Trek fan club in high school in the early to mid 1970s, and liked Next Gen., but by Sept. 1996, Trek was leaving me cold. Watching DS9 and VOY had become a chore. DS9 and VOY both had a lot of annoying characters and bad writing/plots and felt like a cheap soap opera to me.
Then, a fellow engineer and buddy, a mech. (I'm an EE.) recommended Babylon 5. I watched the new episode that night, Shadow Dancing, and was immediately hooked. I borrowed several misc., random eps. from my buddy, and watched them immediately. I dropped DS9 & VOY and never went back to Trek 'til Enterprise. I watched the new B5 episodes thru the end of Season 5 and watched the afternoon reruns from S1E1 Midnight on the Firing Line through the end, all five seasons again. With each rewatch, you notice things that you didn't notice in the previous time.
Babylon 5 in my favorite TV series. Shadow Dancing is a GREAT intro. episode. 👍👍
