Guest House Paradiso (1999)
Nothing new to add, it's exactly what you'd expect from Rick and Ade!
No idea why it took me so long to watch this movie.
Young ones and Bottom were always great fun and this is more of the same madcap humour that we have come to expect of this comedy duo.
90 minutes of mayhem that takes Fawlty Towers and Bates Motel to completely new places in classic slapstick comedy gold!
Definately worth the watch
RIP Rick, your fans miss you!
Black Mirror: Playtest (2016)
The burning question, would you play?
A great black mirror delve into a classic horror concept.
I love the horror genre and crave things that scare me. Playtest takes horror to a new level, taking your own fears and turning them against you!
Fantastically imagined and well executed, if this bares any resemblence to horror gaming in the future, I wanna play! (Once the technology is tried and tested of course lol)
Black Mirror: Nosedive (2016)
Loved this one, hillarious and also a genuine warning to a new generation!
Nosedive is satire at it's very best!
The story is so cleverly put together and played beautifully by the cast. It had me laughing my head off while shaking my head at the reality of the message aimed at our judgemental, social networking society. Of course, nosedive takes the message to a whole new level in classic black mirror style, but this is going on the world we live in today and frankly it's scary as hell to think that it may one day come to this!
Quality epsiode that really makes you think 9/10
Child's Play (2019)
Better than expected!
This reboot worked, it could have been dreadful, but set in the modern world with technology rather than possession as the drive behind Chucky the crazy doll actually suited the film.
There's some good slasher style deaths scenes and the movie was generally well made and acted.
I never expected this movie to blown my mind, but it was worth the watch and entertained me for an hour and a half.
Black Mirror: White Christmas (2014)
One of the best episodes of Black Mirror!
This one hits hard and is an illustration of human cruelty that is, at times, difficult to stomach.
The blend of stories in this episode is a winning formula and all three stories are compelling and each gets increasingly more disturbing.
The cruelty is so well desgined it is easy to empathise with, this makes it an emotional ride throughout and has you questioning whether the human psyche could actually cope with the trauma and torture of these futuristic devices.
The concepts are genius and the execution is brilliant!
Black Mirror: The Waldo Moment (2013)
This one appealled to me, although my wife found Waldo annoying lol!
The Waldo Moment is a brilliant satirical look at the state of modern politics.
This one isn't deep or even that clever, so far as Black Mirror episodes go. But it is very funny and actually quite tragic that it feels so true to life.
The Politics, the society, and the media are all very accurately portrayed. And in the real world we all have to admit that Waldo would get votes, he may even win if he really did run for office!
9/10 for it's sheer simplicity
Black Mirror: White Bear (2013)
This episode doesn't hang about!
Black Mirror episodes often set a scene and take some time to lure you in and immerse you in the characters before frying your brain with a clever twist or a thought-provoking idea!
White Bear is straight in there, right from the off it's a hard hitting, fast ride, littered with tension, mystery and excitment.
There's a powerful message in this one and it's executed brilliantly come the reveal at the end!
Black Mirror: Be Right Back (2013)
Good but not perfect!
Be right Back is a great concept, but there was something missing that I am struggling to put into words here?
Don't get me wrong, it is a good episode that realistically toys with a very chilling concept that, in part, may be somewhere in our future (Scary thought!)
I think the first two thirds of this story played out better than the final third, maybe it went a little too far and became less scary rather than terrifying!
As much as I enjoyed this, I was left wanting a little more.
Tragically sad, yet very engaging!
The entire history of you plays with the concept that we all record everything that we see. We can replay any event and analyse it, display for others to see, relive our greatest moments! Sounds cool doesn't it?
It serves to breed paranoia, suspision, doubt, anger, hate, pain, and anguish!
Brilliant invention that inevitably undermines the human condition and exposes its flaws.
Thought-provoking and clever throughout, this episode is great!
My least favourite episode of season 1, but it's still good
Typically artsy and sylistic, you could say typically Black Mirror.
Fifteen Million Merits is an entertaining ride that hits pretty hard at times. I love the satire and the darkness in this tale of a dystopian future where humans are little more than generators.
Nothing to criticise here, strong characters and story, a solid episode!
Black Mirror: The National Anthem (2011)
Dare I say this might be a Marmite episode based on the reviews i have read!
You can see from my rating how much I loved this episode. What a way to kickstart a new binge watch that I had been avoiding after seeing Bandersnatch last year!
The National Anthem is a work of satirical art. It dared to suggest something so off the wall and ridiculous that it had me in shock and hysterics at the same time. It felt so fresh and original it drew me in and kept giving me more!
I never believed for a second that the writers would actually see this through to it's conclusion, but hats off them, they dared to go there!
Wow, all the craziness and satire was stripped away and replaced with something so perverse and sick I could really feel it! However uncomfortable it was to watch, I felt so sad for the lead character, sickened by the society, appauled by the reactions!
For a story this silly to play out the way it does and still draw these emotions from the viewer has be the work of genius.
Clearly many people hate this episode, I loved it!
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Some neat ideas, but ultimately unsatisfying!
I watched this before seeing any of the black mirror series. I was intrigued by the concept and had heard great things regarding Black Mirror.
I enjoyed the wierdness and the darkness in the story, but I didn't feel that it was a particually strong one. As for the interaction with the movie, i can only say that i was dissapointed, and by the end, bored!
I get that the idea is that we, the viewers, are supposed feel that we are being controlled just as the characters are. But realising this fact as I reached the end of the movie didn't alter the fact that I was bored!
The experience actually put me off watching the Black Mirror series until very recently. Thankfully I have now watched every episode and I love it!
I can conclude that Bandersnatch is the weakest link in the Black Mirror universe in my opinion.
6/10 It's ok, little more!
Toy Story 4 (2019)
I could bash this movie so hard, but it does have some charm.
This forth, and hopefully, final outing for Woody and the gang dissapointed me greatly I am sad to say!
My issue is that the trilogy as it stood was genius and had run full circle to a truely brilliant conclusion!
Toy Story 4 adds nothing new or fresh, it lacks the heart of the other films where it truely matters and it felt like the first milking of the franchise!
Don't get me wrong, I laughed in parts, some of the scenes were pretty good and it was simply brilliantly animated.
But, for me, it didn't need to be made and left me feeling extremely MEH!!!!
Toy Story 3 (2010)
When Disney get it right!
I have always loved these characters and once I even ran across tomorrowland in Disney's Magic Kindgom screaming "Buzz, it's Buzz!" much to my wife's embarassment lol (I was doing it for my son, honest!)
Anyway, Toy Story 3 completed the trilogy with style, class, humor, heart break and perfection.
All our favourite characters are still there and many new faces that only add to the entertainment.
To witness the complete cycle of the toys through to college and then see them get to start over with a new child was so touching and rewarding, it was beautiful and probably makes this third outing my favourite (just!)
Toy Story (1995)
Still great today!
Wow, is this movie really 25 years old now!
I remember falling in love with these characters all those years ago and the concept of this film has always been so cool.
I watched this again recently and although it has aged, it still looks amazing and the Disney charm has never died.
Animated brilliance and the same goes for 2 and 3, best not mention 4 lol
I Am Legend (2007)
Watch the movie first, then read the book, it is possible to enjoy both!
I watched this movie years ago, and very deliberately avoided the book until i had.
I am Legend the movie is a tense, sometimes creepy, sometimes heart breaking movie of substance and quality. Will Smith does an outstanding job and I found the story and the message of the this movie compelling and powerful.
Then there is Matterson's novel. It is completely different and is seeded purely in the horror with a very different meaning to the 'I am Legend' title.
I get people hating this movie for what the filmaker's did to the story in relation to the book. But this movie is great in it's own right and I personally love the movie and the book, I just see them as completely different stories.
Great film 8/10
It's up there with the best of them!
Revenge of the Sith is now a classic piece of the saga and it 100% deserves to be recognised as one of the finest.
Phantom Menace and Attack of the clones struggled to fully meet the standards set by the original trilogy, that is not to say that they were bad, I was a Star Wars kid and would find it hard to find anything Star Wars bad lol.
Where the previous movies struggle a little, Revenge of the Sith doesn't. We have all the right ingredients here and some of the finest battles in the Star Wars universe. We even get to re-capture the darkness that was so evident in Empire Strikes Back!
It's not perfect, but I could pick apart any of the Star Wars movies if I didn't treat them as escapism, so I am not going to single out this one!
Finally, we have witnessed the birth of Darth Vadar, and it was epic!
True Romance (1993)
Gritty and fulfilling, one of my all time favourite movies!
With a Stellar cast, slick direction, terrific writing, and a compelling story. True Romance is a masterful telling of the "boy meets girl, they find a bag of money and go on the run from the bad guys!" story.
We've all probably seen movies with similar stories, but i have never seen one done with such grit and style as this one!
It is littered with iconic scenes (The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is my absolute favourite in case you were wondering!)
None of the cast put a foot wrong throughout this movie and Miss Arquette is simply adorable as Alabama, easily her best ever role!
If you're reading wondering whether to give True Romance a try, stop reading and watch it! You won't regret that you did for one second!
Worst of the best!
This outing only has Phillip Rhee from the original cast and although he is the best martial artist, he fails to carry this franchise on his own.
It's not awful, and it tries to deliver a strong message, it just fails!
Best of the Best II (1993)
It is the best of the best!
I really enjoyed the first film in the series and felt this one was even better. It's a quality martial arts movie with a good storyline.
Nice to add a little vengenance into the franchise, and the martial arts are quality throughout.
It's cheesy at times, sure! But it's a great watch for all martial arts fans!
It was good, surprisingly!
My expectations were very low, but i was intrigued enought to give it a try.
Wow! Teeth is actually a good film, comedy and horror in good balance and very entertaining with more intelligence than i expected.
Worth a watch for all horror fans - this movie isn't as stupid as it sounds!
Piranha 3D (2010)
Watch this when you've had a good drink and it entertains!
Expectations were low, alcohol to blood level was high, entertainment was delivered.
Piranha 3D is basically a fun, gory, boobfest. It definately exceeded my expectations and if you happen to be in the mood for a fun, gory, boobfest! This fits the bill and then some!
Repo Men (2010)
Loved the idea, and the execution was close to perfect!
Didn't have a clue this movie would be as good as it is!
I liked the premise and gave it a go and it surpassed my expectations on every level. This movie is far deeper than it appears and it delivers a killer thrill ride loaded with conspiracy and guts (literally)
Great cast and direction, great plot twists, and somewhat harrowing and compelling at the same time.
Brilliant entertainment if you're a little sick in the head lol
District 9 (2009)
10 minutes in and my wife and I were like, "are we watching the extras disc here??" It felt like a behind the scenes documentary at first.
Maybe many people have thought the same and quit, please take my advice and stick with this absolute gem of a movie, you won't regret it!
District 9 manages to make our world interact with alien inhabitants seem completely real (we can't speak the same language, but we still understand one another). The special effects and slick and realistic, the acting is of the highest quality and the direction is sublime.
This movie will always and forever be one of my favourite movies, and i never have, and probably never will see anything else quite like it.
Whatever kind of movies you enjoy, District 9 is likely to be enjoyed because of it's sheer brilliance.
The Addams Family (2019)
I don't know if it was the transition to annimation or what? But this movie failed to entertain as much as it should have and has lost everything that made the Addams family good in the first place.
Not for me
