I'm Still Here (I) (2013)
10/10
Raw, heart-aching debut from promising director Kris Smith
9 December 2013
I'm Still Here, the feature film debut from director Kris Smith that draws on his experiences with terminal illness, is as poignant and punchy as they come. Matthew (portrayed by Dan Burman), a young man with his whole life ahead of him suddenly discovers that he has terminal cancer - thus begins a roller-coaster ride of pain and heartache, from reconciling with family to falling in love at the wrong time.

Burman's sterling no holds barred performance married with Smith's raw, almost documentary- like filmmaking (thanks also to the excellent cinematography by DOP Joshua Carver) give I'm Still Here its emotional core – since the film seems so natural it makes it all the more relatable, and that it makes the drama all the more heartbreaking (oh yes, you certainly will need tissues). In all the right places, Burman channels melancholy, wit and pure agony on his journey through all the stages of grief portrayed in the film that will certainly pull at your heartstrings.

His co-stars are equally as empathic, particularly Lucy Russell as Rebecca and Chris Szuca as Ben who deliver fresh, engaging performances. Whilst the focus of Matthew's attention is on his love interest Olivia (Rebecca Bailey), the more meaningful relationships are the ones he forms in his community; particularly in the case of fellow cancer sufferer Rebecca and the estranged married couple Ben and Sophie. Matthew's realization of his larger role in the world around him will certainly have audiences feeling warm, even if his kindness is shrouded in tragedy.

The film's somber score by Asche & Spencer, whose credits include Machine Gun Preacher and Monster's Ball, reinforces the moody tone well as Matthew struggles with day-to-day life, knowing his time is growing shorter by the minute.

I'm Still Here is a dose of fresh, no-holds-barred filmmaking that will break your heart in two with its powerful drama. Smith has made his cinematic mark, as his beautiful debut shows strong signs of great promise in his future – he's most certainly a director to watch.

Imagine 'Saw' fused with 'Fear Dot Com'.
13 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS ABOUT THE ENDING*** This wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, nor is it the worst.

I saw this at a multiplex in Times Square on a college trip to New York, and having never attended a multiplex screening before I was shocked by the experience. The film was a lot worse with the sound and enlarged visuals - it made me cry. However, if I was watching this on DVD it wouldn't have made me cry but I would have still found it nasty, and I am an avid horror movie fan.

The film follows a woman from the FBI who deals in catching online criminals. She comes across a website, 'Kill With Me?' which shows a small kitten being trapped in front of a saucer of cream that it can't quite reach. Soon the kitten dies, yet the rest of the FBI aren't that bothered. But when human beings start being killed in sickening ways (being sat in a vat of sulfuric acid, being burned to death in front of heat lamps, being injected with a substance that makes you bleed to death and at the end the woman herself is captured and lowered into a set of lawn mower blades) the FBI try their best to save them - yet any visitors to the site only make the deaths faster (e.g. the more people visiting the site, the more heat lamps turned on).

The movie was fairly predictable - it was very obvious that the woman would get captured herself and then escape and kill the murderer.

It was alright, and see it if you're into stuff like 'Fear Dot Com' or 'Saw'. Just don't expect anything clever. It was about as rubbish as 'Fear Dot Com' and doesn't even meet the once-clever 'Saw', even though it's trying to follow it in terms of torture.

3/10 stars.

The Hunted Turn on the Hunter
21 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
CONTAINS SPOILERS: 'The Wicker Man' is a wonderful film. In some ways subtle and in some ways in-your-face with strangeness, this film is a surprising tale of good vs. evil - with evil winning in the end.

A devout Christian police officer, Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) arrives in the island of Summerisle, searching for a missing girl. The locals deny knowing her, but as his stay on the island progresses he sees many strange things happening as time moves on to May Day. He follows many scattered breadcrumbs throughout the film and eventually realizes that he was trapped all along with no one to comfort or save him.

This film was enjoyable because we, as an audience, were with the police sergeant throughout the entire feature. We knew only what he knew and were as baffled as he was with the strange ways of the village; such as the exceedingly inappropriate discussion at the local school, the animal masks that are worn frequently and the naked girls dancing and singing over a bonfire.

With the horror occurring in the daytime, in front of an entire community and in a nice village (that you may even go to for your holidays), this film throws you off the scent with its many anti-conventions. The stereotypes of the genre are almost completely overthrown to create this twisted, terrifying piece of cinema.

The final scene was particularly horrific; ending with the Sergeant Howie burning to death as a sacrifice in the Wicker Man. Reminiscent of the death of Jesus Christ, Howie sings praises to God and prays to be saved as he is burned to death - one man against many. This is a sad, yet powerful ending - again using the anti-conventions in the sense that the villains won this time.

I strongly recommend seeing this film. Christopher Lee himself said that his role as Lord Summerisle was one of the best roles he had ever had.

A load of werewolf warble - every time I see it I hate it more.
16 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I think the best way for me to review this title is to split it into its pros and cons.

PROS: ~ they turn into wolves rather than plastic/cartoony monsters. ~ the chase of the wolves through the forest ~ "Cash Machine" by Hard-Fi being played

CONS: ~ some parts of the script makes you cringe (for example the terrible part where the woman escapes the 'games' of the "Fortunate Five" boys, and there's about half an hour of "Dear cousin" and a round robin of "Yes, see, we know Gabriel's law") ~ the diving transformation is ridiculous ~ the obvious and ridiculous ending ~ Aiden being told thousands of times to leave, and then goes "if you cared about me you would have left me" ~ the obvious characters ~ the unnecessary parcour ~ the completely unnecessary slashing of the arm by Aiden ~ cringey speeches by Gabriel

You see what I mean.

I adore werewolf films, and I tried watching this a few times to see if I'd like it better but it just made it worse. I think I'll just read the book and see how I get on.

Don't bother with this unless you have a 12 year old brother or sister into spooky things. Anyone over that age may suffer and want their hour and a half back.

What a load of pants.
21 November 2007
This could have been a GREAT movie, but it was so lazy and badly done that it turned out to be a tweeny load of rubbish in my opinion.

It was such a good idea - kids play a video game, you die in the game you die in real life. It could have been fantastic.

Yet the deaths were corny and the ultimate villain (a REAL Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Bathory, who was said to be "vampiric" as she bathed in virgin's blood - you can also find her on the Atmosfear/Nightmare board game series) was a load of twoddle. She was pathetic.

The "anti"-climax ruined the whole film.

Don't bother. You'll want your time back.

Siren (2003 Video Game)

I stopped playing: the gameplay and controls get on your nerves. A LOT.
7 November 2007
I really want to love this game. I do.

Amazing graphics, enemies and plot lines, and a distinct reference to Silent Hill.

But that annoying Triangle button that you have to press every time you want to do something is just plain stupid! It's a waste of time.

Sight Jacking is equally frustrating, as it takes you forever to understand why you're doing it in the first places (something that nun failed to tell me).

I'd watch it being played, but I don't think I could handle playing it myself. It's too annoying.

This should have been rated "18".
2 November 2007
This movie was a lot better than I expected. Claire Redfield joining the crew, another stunning performance from Jovovich and the strangest twists and biggest explosions the series has seen yet.

However - this should have been rated an "18" rather than a "15" in the UK.

It was very gory and very disturbing - the undead so far were not too scary for me but this was more gory and disturbing than the Dawn of the Dead remake and it frightened the hell out of me.

A good movie - but be warned.

8/10.

Shrek has been "milked".
1 November 2007
  • A repeat of the first film (Shrek goes to pick up someone who doesn't want to go with him, and delivers that person to someone else) - Gag after gag with no real storyline.

  • The gags aren't that funny.

  • Any good jokes were put on the trailers, which were shown to you about fifty times on TV and such, making them unfunny when you see the whole film.

  • Pointless use of characters (some characters did not need to be involved, such as the princesses).

  • You are waiting for the good bits to come on, but they never come.

Why has all this happened? Because Shrek has been "milked" (and will continue to be "milked" as Shrek 4 and a Puss in Boots spin off are currently in production). Hollywood loves sequels, but this has pushed it too far.

Worth seeing if you are a fan of the Shrek series, but you will be disappointed.

A historical landmark of low-budget film making and horror cinema.
25 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people have criticized this for not being scary, but on the contrary I think it was very scary and I admire this film for creating an entire new meaning of 'scary' and for being so successful on such a low budget. Universal's coffee bill must be higher than what the budget was for this film. I feel that this was the birth of the psychological horror film.

What also helped this was the fact that the actors used their real names in the film, and the website that accompanied it helped to create the illusion that this incident portrayed in the film was a true event.

Fabulous acting (and REAL snot coming out of Heather Donahue's nose in that heartbreaking famous scene), great shots and eerie locations also help to boost the scariness of TBWP.

Definitely a film you must see before you die.

I think only sailors would be able to withstand the camera usage.
25 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Having not seen the films before (and not being able to stand Matt Damon), I was reluctant to go see The Bourne Ultimatum when we were asked to see it for AS Film Studies.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that even a film with Damon in it could be enjoyable.

Fast fight scenes, crazy motorbike chases and BIG explosions were what threw you out of your seat in TBU. The near-misses between the CIA and Bourne kept you on your toes and throughly entertained.

Nevertheless, several things really grated my cheese.

Firstly, the fact that the film was just a series of Bourne, CIA, Bourne, CIA, Bourne, CIA. This sequence got repetitive and ultimately dull. Although Damon did keep us entertained and seemed always one step ahead of the CIA, I was getting a bit annoyed with the constant survival of Bourne. He crashed a car and got out as if he had tapped it or something! Very unrealistic.

And secondly (inevitably) - the SHAKY CAMERA. It was so shaky it was completely noticeable and made me and everyone who went to see it in my class (even the tutors) seasick. We were told by the tutors that if we ever used that in a film we made in class, it would automatically be wrong and we would be told to use a tripod. Fair enough if Greengrass wanted it to look like we were there watching Damon and Stiles holding a conversation, but surely we wouldn't be shaking our heads that violently!

But all in all TBU is an enjoyable film and worth a watch. But I didn't think it was the best film of the year, despite being an entertaining piece of cinema.

Stunning, poetic, brutal - ELdF packs a hell of a punch.
24 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
El Laberinto del Fauno is a faerie-tale in a terrible world. Set in post-Civil War Spain, bookworm Ofelia is living in a tragedy with her increasingly ill and pregnant mother and her stepfather, the cruel and sadistic Captain Vidal. The family is moved to a mill (where Vidal is stationed) and it is there that Ofelia meets her destiny, and the opportunity for something better. She is drawn to a labyrinth near the mill by a 'faerie', and it is there she is introduced to the Faun (also known as 'Pan' in the English adaption, but the faun introduces himself as 'Faun'. 'Pan' comes from the mischievous faun god in Greek mythology). The Faun tells her that her true identity is Princess Moanna, born of the moon, and she must complete three tasks to prove her royalty.

What I particularly loved about the princess concept is that it can either be interpreted as reality or escapism (fantastising about something better whilst being forced to live around death and pain). I think a lot of us (the less cynical) like to think that it is real, especially at the end.

The juxtaposition of the brutality of Vidal and the war in general with the beautiful, surreal faerie-tale of Ofelia is a very intriguing contrast. Some of the scenes with Vidal I had to look away, some of it was too cruel and gory to watch. It's very cleverly done, especially as Vidal is drawn into the labyrinth with Ofelia at the end and sees her talking to no-one - is this because it doesn't exist (it's in her mind) or he is an adult/doesn't believe? Del Toro leaves this to our imaginations and forces us as an audience to come to a decision.

Stunning visuals and effects, creative storyline and fantastic conclusion. El Laberinto Del Fauno is not something you want to miss.

King Kong (2005)
7/10
A fantastic movie - but my goodness, did it go on!
24 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Stunning visuals. Highly-skilled actors. Supreme locations. One big monkey. Just one thing: if you thought LOTR went on a bit, don't expect anything different here.

Naomi Watts and Jack Black both prove very talented (Black in a more serious role than his usual college-style comedies) in King Kong. Both WERE the character they were playing, not just acting them.

True, Kong doesn't show for the first hour. But this acts as a useful slot to build up our characters and we have another two hours of monkey anyway. Kong is very realistic and I particularly like the way he laughs and roars, likening him to real gorillas.

The dinosaurs are superb, and you'll know what I mean when I say "I wasn't expecting that"! One thing that got my goat - Jack Driscoll and Anne (Watts) getting together faaaaaaaaaaaaar too quickly. I mean, what the hell was that? I felt that was done poorly.

And also, the fact that it was three hours. Fair enough, but by the last half hour (the BIG CLIMAX) I just didn't care anymore because I was so tired. I felt this ruined it a bit for me, so maybe next time to cut it by a half hour or something.

But all in all a good film, definitely worth a watch. 7/10.

Forget "Hostel" and "Saw" - this is the real deal.
24 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
If you thought "Hostel" and "Saw" were gross, you know nothing until you've seen this.

Without using the old "Who's there? I know someone's there" cliché, we are introduced to the antagonist right from the start, lulled into a false sense of security and then smacked right in the face when we find he has kept the backpackers hostage. I think this is a very clever twist and certainly made me jump (I hadn't a clue what this was about before I watched it, and I feel this is the best way to see it).

Gruesome and sadistic, the murderous bushman makes us squirm in our skin as he stalks and attacks his victims. He toys with his victims in a clever way, not the usual villain we see.

I have never been scared of a human villain in my life but this film made me so scared I burst into tears and had to turn it off (of course I watched the rest of it another time). You will wet your pants, bite your nails off and chew your lip to nothingness as you cry "RUN! RUN!! JUST RUN!!" at the screen.

Cleverly shot too, I love the angles and the way blood is not overly used.

Serene, visual poetry
27 May 2007
I am a complete stranger to the works of Hsiao-hsien Hou and Yasujiro Ozu, but I would like to give my opinion on this anyway.

Probably like me, strangers to the works of those directors will find this slow-paced, a little repetitive (with Yoko constantly getting on/off trains) and somewhat confusing in places.

However, watching it I noticed how simply human it was. Most films have a terrible dilemma, which usually are very much unlike real life. But this is a very simple film, in which in the dilemma is simply that she is three months pregnant but does not wish to marry the father of the unborn child. Very human.

Another way it was a very human hearted film was the relationships between her parents - who watch their growing daughter with concern slowly become more independent - and between her bookshop friend - having little chats in the bookshop, not going into deep conversation but having light-hearted chat.

It didn't have to be complicated, and that's what I liked most about this film. It was something to relate to.

This film is definitely a piece of art. Notice how the only soundtrack within the whole picture (music-wise) is Weyne's pieces (that is, during the film - there is a song during the credits). This brings more emphasis on the humanity of the film and the artistic camera shots used. It's a very poetic and serene film.

Cafe Lumiere probably means more to Hsiao-hsien Hou and Yasujiro Ozu fans than it did to me. But it was a sweet film and I'd definitely recommend it to those who just want something simple and quiet to watch.

Definitely worth a watch.
23 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
If you're a fan of the old B-movies, then this one is definitely for you. If not, it's still worth a watch.

Like an American version of 'Shaun Of The Dead' (2004), this film cleverly combines horror, gore and humour in order to scare its audience but keep them laughing. There are some clever lines within the film, in terms of comedy, that will raise a roar of laughter. In terms of horror, there are many scenes that made me squirm (*is a bit squeamish*)! There is a scene with a girl's family all turning into these monster creatures and one of the little sisters is particular terrifying...

Anyway, I give this an 8/10. The acting, horror and comedy all work very well together. A bit of a gore fest for all you blood fans. A bit of sci-fi for all the alien lovers and a bit of zombies for all the George A. Romero groupies.

Gotta love it.

Battle Royale (2000)

And I thought the teens of 'All About Lily Chou-Chou' were messed up!
14 October 2006
When I saw 'All About Lily Chou-Chou' (aka 'Riri ShuShu No Subete', by Shunji Iwai, 2001), I thought this was as messed up as teens could get in these movies.

However, after seeing 'Battle Royale' (aka 'Batoru Rowaiaru'), I realised I was clearly wrong in my presumption.

I am not going to spoil it for those who have not seen this movie yet, but all I will say is that 'Battle Royale' is dark, gory and sinister. This movie has a constant love/hate, trust/mistrust relationship about the teenagers and a dark ending around every corner.

The acting is absolutely outstanding and the film itself stunning.

A must-see, but definitely NOT for the faint at heart.

Do NOT miss this movie.
14 October 2006
This movie was absolutely amazing.

Acting by the two leads Cage and Peña was very believable and tear-jerking. The movie itself was very cleverly made, despite some of the goofs within the film (many have noticed cars and advertisements that were introduced AFTER 9/11) - for example, even at the start police cars have dents in them (looking more realistic) and hardly any special effects were used.

A gripping movie that will make you cry (it certainly made me cry and jump right out of my seat in some scenes!). I was 11 when the towers were hit so I didn't really take too much notice, being young. But now I realise what an impact this had upon America. My heart went out to everyone during that film.

This is definitely a must-see. But not for the faint-hearted - this movie is very, VERY emotional.

Ringu (1998)
10/10
One of my favourite movies ever!
13 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is fantastic. I can't say too much about it because it would not do it any justice! There would be no point! What I will say is that this movie is, without a doubt, one of the best horror movies in history and one of the horror icons. No doubt it has inspired a LOT of other movies - think 'the Grudge', 'FearDotCom', 'The Ring', 'Kairo' (very brief part where ghost with long hair over her face attacks Junco in the red-taped room), 'Phone', 'The Ghost'/'Dead Friend', 'Dark Water'... the list goes on! The ghostly girl with hair over her face may have become a bit of a cliché, but Sadako was there first! What's so great about 'Ringu'? Could it be the great actors? Or the suspense and shock around every corner? Could it be the thrill of the race against time to save yourself from Sadako? I think it's all these and more.

If you don't see 'Ringu', then you're DEFINITELY missing out. This film is a landmark in horror. The sequels are good if you've seen this one first - this one is the main story, the sequels provide extra information. Actually, the seconds more informative and the third more dramatic than scary! But 'Ringu' is chilling to the bone. And Sadako is GRUESOME. Those nails. That walk. THE EYE! I love this movie so much, I have even made my IMDb name related to it and made my own LiveJournal based on Sadako! Or am I just over-obsessed? :-P

Garasu no nô (1999)

Absolutely stunning.
13 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Garasu No Nou (I'm told it literally means 'Brain made out of glass', or something like that... just 'Brain of glass'?), or Sleeping Bride/Glass Brain, is a wonderful play with the traditional fairytale Sleeping Beauty with a modern twist. Hideo Nakata has made this movie just as beautiful as his fantastic movie 'Ringu'.

A love story and tragedy at the same time, a boy named Yuichi is hospitalised for asthma at age 7 but he spends a lot of his time at the hospital visiting Yumi, a girl who has been in the hospital all her life, but asleep all her life. She has never woken up since childhood. The nurses and doctors can't do anything to wake her. Yuichi associates her with the story of Sleeping Beauty and starts to believe that if he kisses her, she will wake up. So he does this for a long time, but he eventually leaves the hospital and grows up. Then, about ten years later, he sees a news report about Yumi's story and remembers her. He goes back to try and wake her up, and eventually she does. She learns fast and he falls in love with her. But can this bliss REALLY last? The acting is absolutely superb, the plot is fantastic and the emotions are definitely stirred up in this movie. It's a magical piece of cinema and it's sad that so few have seen it. I think it only comes with the Ringu box set.

WARNING: This film's a real tear-jerker - it makes me cry every time I see it!

Ginger Snaps (2000)
10/10
Stunning, surprising, unique - my favourite movie of ALL time!
13 June 2006
This film is AMAZING. 'Ginger Snaps' uses the metaphor of werewolfism for puberty and teenage life, but with clever little twists.

Brigitte (Emily Perkins) and Ginger (Katherine Isabelle) Fitzgerald are two social outcasts, sisters and best friends, together "against life as we know it"... obsessed with death and suicide. Neither of them (despite the fact they're 15-16) have experienced puberty as of yet, and are glad that they haven't so they remain different to everyone else. But one night, when out tricking their loathed enemy from school, Trina Sinclair (Danielle Hampton), Ginger gets "the curse"... now angry she has something in common with the others (she's properly hit puberty) she doesn't notice a werewolf stalking her. It finally attacks and after a desperate struggle, with Brigitte attempting to save her sister, she takes Ginger back home. Ginger is very much wounded but Brigitte finds it scary that they have almost healed within minutes of getting cut... Slowly, over the next 28 days, Ginger becomes more and more like a young woman on the prowl. They think it's puberty and hormones at first, but when Ginger starts growing a tail they realise something's not quite right. As the best friends slowly grow apart as Ginger grows more wolf-like Brigitte knows she has to find a way to save her sister before she loses her completely. With the help of local drug-dealer-and-plant-know-it-all Sam, can she get her sister back? Or will she lose Ginger to the werewolf virus?

So whats all the hype about? Well firstly, Katharine Isabelle, Emily Perkins and Kris Lemche shine like gems in 'Ginger Snaps'. Their acting is beyond superb (Perkins does even BETTER in 'Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed')! The black humour in this movie is hilarious, gets me in stitches every time! For example, after Ginger is accused of being a werewolf, during the family dinner time, Ginger takes a bite out a chicken wing, looks at Brigitte and bitterly says "Wish these were babie's legs." - cracks me up every time! Pamela (Mimi Rogers), the girls' mother, is fantastic too! She is absolutely hilarious in her mother role, but I think we are meant to be laughing at her sometimes. Or maybe because we are with the two depressed girls all through the movie, we HAVE to laugh at her contrast with her daughters! The gore, horror, shocks, surprises, humour, soundtrack, acting and unique idea for 'Ginger Snaps' is what makes it so special. This movie, I feel, has inspired many people and influenced them a lot. My friend received a t-shirt with the girls' pact on it as a friendship birthday gift once, and I know that this movie has inspired a lot of death shots (I myself did some after seeing 'Ginger Snaps'!).

You MUST see this movie - it's pure genius!

Brilliant!
12 June 2006
I was watching this movie today, having not seen it for about two years, and I noticed a LOT more in it this time than when I last saw it:

1. The stunning animation. Not the Americanised, simplistic anime but a prettier and more detailed style. Smoother animation, too.

2. The plot - a more developed version of what you get on the series, which is what fans like to see! :)

3. The humour! I have always loved Digimon's humour and it is definitely improved further in this movie.

4. The fight scenes are as good as ever!

5. Great soundtrack! (apart from that Digimon Rap thing at the start - it got on my nerves o_O;;)

So, overall, this movie is great entertainment. Obviously I recommend this especially to Digimon fans but it also appeals to other audiences. I myself was a Digimon fan about 6 years ago, and hadn't seen it, and when I saw the old videos I have of the series and the movie recently after pulling them out of my shelves I remembered why I liked Digimon so much :D As everyone else has said, beats Pokemon any day! And this is coming from an ex-Pokemon fan too! Maybe the reason it beats Pokemon (apart from the reasons above) is because Digimon shows a lot more human emotion, rather than just fight fight fight pull Brock away from girls and more fighting and getting shiny badges.

Three word summary: BIG Digimon adventure

Madagascar (2005)

Likable

This film had it's good and bad parts. On one hand, the plot was predictable, the jokes not particularly funny and the speed of the characters movement gave me a headache (they constantly run around and jump and dance). I did like the characters, although they weren't anything new or interesting. David Schwimmer (as the giraffe) made me laugh, but mainly because I could compare the personality of the giraffe to that of Schwimmer's character Ross in the TV show Friends - both a bit paranoid and very cautious at all times. Ali G (as the lemur king) made me giggle as well when he danced, and I particularly liked the 'wackiness' of his character. The penguins were probably the most enjoyable characters on the film - they were "psychotic" (as the lion Alex liked to call them) and I found them very entertaining to watch. The animation in this film was very well done. I noticed in particular the perfection on the water effects (eg by the sea in Madagascar or in Gloria's swimming pool) and Alex's mane (how it moves when he does). I would say this film is enjoyable. It isn't anything new or fantastic, but it did have small moments where it made you smile or laugh. Otherwise it got a bit predictable really. My advice - see if you liked Shrek. But don't expect too much - the trailers make it look better than it is!

Pretty Awful
16 July 2005
I loved the first Legally Blonde. It was one of those charming, innocent teen movies. The acting in it was flawless and the jokes creative.

But this one was trying to re-use the first, and failed miserably. The acting LB2 was very good, but the plot was complete nonsense and the jokes recycled, making them not very funny anymore really. Especially when used badly.

I was also annoyed at LB2's Elle Woods.. in the first, she was a great character because at first she was a naive, dumb blonde who lived up to her stereotype. But she overcame the odds, realised her potential and proved to the world that she was an intelligent, interesting, mature woman. However, when I saw her character in this sequel, she went right back to stupid again! I didn't understand why at all.

The animal testing case annoyed me as well. The murder trial Elle had to sort in the first was good because it was a serious case, which was funny to contrast with her bubbly, girlie personality. It was also funny when she won that case with the rule about the perm. But the animal testing thing was so typical of a girl like her when she was at the start of the first to try and change. She had changed at the end of the first movie though, so why go back to who she was? Some of the other characters were a bit pointless as well. Emmett was there, but his role was pretty small and meaningless. Paulette's character wasn't as good as it was in the first movie.

I just felt this movie had no point to it. The first had already covered everything, and on my DVD explains what happened to them (Paulette marries that guy she likes, Emmett proposes to Elle, etc) so there was no point trying to carry on from that Happy Ever After. It was just recycling the first and adding in a whole load of rubbish.

If You Are A Werewolf Movie Fan, Go See
25 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Ellie and her dorky brother Jimmy are driving home one night, when they crash into a mysterious beast and another car.. the woman in the other car gets stuck, so Ellie stops and tries to help her, and Jimmy follows, but the woman is dragged away by the beast and torn to pieces.. Jimmy and Ellie both get cuts from this, and soon everything begins to change for them..

I felt this movie was good, but it was a bit clichéd and unimaginative. I loved the werewolf effects, they were very well done and freaky as hell. How scary would that be to have one of those big, fast, nasty things chasing you? I also thought it funny in a way as well. For example, the part where the cool boy Bo reveals he is gay, or the part where Jimmy and Ellie are describing the werewolf to the police near the end and Ellie deliberately says "..fat thighs and UGLY skin!" and the werewolf bursts through a window and gives her the finger.. those bits made me chuckle.

But I think this film could have been far more developed. It didn't have many surprising bits in it or anything that really scared me, so I felt that could have been worked on. And the ending. Surely it couldn't have just been a "happy ever after" just like that? Wouldn't there have been more werewolves around anyway? They couldn't have been the only ones. Also, a lot of this movie was predictable. I saw this movie with a friend and we both knew what was going to happen, who was a werewolf and who wasn't, who was going to die.. that sort of thing.

I watched this because I am a general werewolf movie fan, I love all three Ginger Snaps, Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf In London and I thought Underworld wasn't bad either.. I liked this, but I think it should have had far more thought put into it. I would watch it if you are a fan, but don't expect anything mind-blowing.

Noah & Saskia (2004– )
Brilliant!!
27 January 2005
I love this! It's a cute show with a witty script and some great story lines. Noah & Saskia also has a great theme, as I have not seen many shows that are about good internet friendships. The only ones I have seen are about the ones with creeps on the end (like Sarah Platt in Coronation Street a while back). I love the way they show the closeness of the two as it reminds me of me and my close internet friend. They've done it really well. Noah & Saskia, for those who don't know, is a teenage based programme about two internet friends, Noah King and Saskia Litras (obviously, hence the title!!) who work on a website/comic thing together in their spare time and the programme shows them going on through their everyday lives by day, at school and such, and how they get on. Like Saskia will have falls out with her friends and Noah has a little cousin Eddie to deal with. Despite the fact that Noah lives in London and Saskia in Austrailia, they consider themselves the best of friends, under the alias Max Hammer (for Noah) and Indy (for Saskia). Blumenau and Greenwood are great as Noah and Saskia, as they capture the whole thing brilliantly. They're really good actors and I hope to see more from them. They are very convincing as their characters. This is one of the best things I have seen from CBBC so far. I really recommend this if you are looking for a great way to spend half an hour, and if you like teenage friendship type of shows. Wicked!!
