The 100: Stealing Fire (2016)
I don't like rating this a 10 when it's a 7 but people are rating it down bc they're upset
Actual rating: 7/10 Breakout Acting: Marie Avgeropoulos and Ricky Whittle
There is yet another problematic trope in this episode (spoilers: it also had to do with a character death), and I hated how the last 3 minutes were shot, but this show is starting to feel more focused on character driven plots like it had before this season. People are just being salty bc a certain character died in a previous episode ( and although it was by a horrible trope it was still meant to drive the plot and the Actress was only available for 7 episodes. At least you guys had half the season dedicated to her whereas a main character got like maybe 13 minutes before dying)
SPOILERS: I think Lincoln/Ricky didn't deserve such a graphic death and that's what upset me most about this episode. He went out being heroic and sacrificing himself though, so at least that's there.
Aside from the character death this episode was good! I hope Clarke comes back and interacts with the main cast though. I think that's another thing that has been missing this season- the delinquents (yes, including Clarke) not interacting. Hopefully, from this episode on it'll be better and the writers will learn and no longer use horribly drawn out and disgusting tropes. Only time will tell.
I did love the mission to get Kane and the other to safety, however, and Octavia's remark about trying to live under the floor for sixteen years. It hurt a little but was still funny. Ontari, I don't necessarily like, but she'll make a good antagonist. Her dynamic with Murphy is also interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing where that leads. Also the Murphy and Roan sass was A+.
Marie Avgeropoulos and Ricky Whittle broke my heart this episode with their phenomenal acting. Rest in peace, Lincoln.

Finally A Breath Of Fresh Air From This Season
Seeing as I know some unhappy fans will come and give this episode a low rating because their favorite character/ representation was killed off in such a way that makes you step back and question the "progressiveness" this show claims to have, I feel like I should note that last week's crappy writing does NOT reflect in this episode's storytelling, and low reviews might hold bias due to the fandom's overall anger that's directed at the writers, and thus should not discourage viewers from watching this show.
This episode was honestly one of my favorites of this season, and I'm surprised to say that because there was the absence of Octavia and Clarke, both of whom I really enjoy as characters. This episode, however, did just fine- even more than fine- on it's own without either of them. This episode had me sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation as I watched on, hoping (but not expecting) to see some characters who I felt were being mistreated this season turn their arcs around and getting down to business. And it gave me everything I needed to make it through these next two weeks of hiatus.
(SPOILERS) We were finally given a kiss scene between Miller and his boyfriend (which would've happened two episodes ago but I digress), we were given the beginning of an uprising, we were given Bellamy's turnaround (albeit at the end of the ep) and we were given Raven turning off her allegiance to A.L.I.E so she could try and save the love that the living held for all of those they had lost.
I truly loved the plethora of scenes we were given of the delinquents interacting with each other and being given actual roles into the storytelling instead of merely playing background characters to it. They (the delinquents) are the foundation and heart of the show and I'm not afraid to say that THAT is what we've been missing this season. We had it in season 1 at the dropship camp and in mount weather while they were being held prisoners, but it's been lacking in season 3. These interactions are what really made the episode for me.
Also, the acting in this episode was phenomenal, and I'd really like to give a standing ovation to Bob Morley for his portrayal of Bellamy. Just WOW. This guy is Emmy worthy and I don't hand that compliment out recklessly. I was blown away by his performance this season, and that did not fall short this episode. Without Bob, Bellamy truly would've been so OOC that anyone watching would've scoffed at throughout the season, but his expressiveness without the need for dialogue really saved this character arc for me. At the beginning of this episode, his acting had us so angry with him, and he was able to portray Bellamy's conflicted emotions and heartbreak so well. We didn't even need Bellamy to outright say "I'm going back to the right side", we could just see it at the end of this episode through both his expressiveness and the implied dialogue.
Lindsey Morgan also did a great job, her acting just made my heart break for Raven.
Jarod Joseph and Chelsey Reist should also be acknowledged for their great acting and I cannot wait to see Miller and Harper kick ass and take names later this season. They are both breakout stars this season (aside from Devon Bostick and his portrayal of a PTSD victim, which was a great job) and I can't wait to see where their characters go. I can't wait for them to do the same with Monty.
Negative reviews I've seen have claimed that it was "anticlimactic" and I don't see that at all. To each their own, but I really felt like this episode built up suspense in such a way that has me very invested for the episodes to come, and it's something we've been needing this season because all we've really been given are episodes that just try to blow up the essence of "shock value" and I think we've all seen how terribly handled that trope is by the writers. The build up was anything but boring and it has had me biting my nails in worry over the future of the delinquents and their new home.
The only thing missing from this episode was that there wasn't enough of a grounder's perspective which could've been utilized via Lincoln. Aside from that, I absolutely liked the storytelling and I hope the writers stay with this trend rather than revert to the somewhat lazy storytelling they've been using in the past four episodes or so.
I'm very excited for the next episode and I haven't been for this show in a while. Can't wait for the next one!!! I just really hope the future episodes won't disappoint like the trend has been this season. Only time will tell.
