His Fatal Fixation (2020 TV Movie)
6/10
Decent afternoon movie
25 September 2020
I watched it till the end, which is not often the case for this kind of tv-movies. The story is certainly not original but keeps the viewer doubting about who is killing people around Lily Abrams (the lovely Sarah Fisher). Having seen a french dubbed version I cannot really judge the actors' performances. All in all a no-brainer hour and a half entertainment.

The Detour (2016–2019)

I won't be watching the second episode and here's why
14 August 2016
Pilots can be deceiving. Sometimes the authors want to do too much, and as a result the show tends to be over the top, frantic and so on. That's why I'm generally willing to give it at least a second chance. Generally, but not this time. I don't see how this sitcom could improve to reach at least the passing grade. I'm not fastidious when it comes to sitcoms, if I can laugh a few times during the 20 minutes time I'm satisfied, unfortunately this was not the case. Let's see then...yes there is bad language, but that doesn't put me off, it's not funny in itself though if not well orchestrated with the other elements of the situations. The idea of a politically incorrect family was good (remember "Stll Standing"?) and a couple of twists in this first episode were promising but the result simply doesn't work. It's difficult to point the finger... writers, director perhaps, certainly not the actors who do their job, I see Natalie Zea always with pleasure, still...Sexually charged dialogues involving children can be hilarious ("Two and a Half Men"), it's just not the case here.

The Oranges (2011)
5/10
Embarrassing
15 January 2016
This movie is categorized as comedy, drama and romance and fails in all three IMHO. Let's start with the tag lines: there's no sex whatsoever and it's about to get juicy but it never does, reckon that according to your preferences. As a comedy it delivers few smiles and even less laughs. The drama side goes a bit better if nothing else for the ever worried look of David (Laurie), a middle aged husband who could be attractive only to girls in desperate need of a father figure.Unfortunately the drama part is also predictable and without sparkles. Finally the romance: very little dwelled upon and without any surprise. If i haven't been harsher in voting it's because of the actors' effort, in particular Alia Shawkat (perfect in the role of the incredibly obnoxious Vanessa) and Adam Brody (my favorite scene is when he's back from China and discovers the "scandal")

Captive (II) (2015)

Good movie to watch if you don't know the story
13 January 2016
I saw this film without knowing anything about Brian Nichols and his story and I enjoyed it. I then saw the low ratings and mixed reviews and i wondered why. I'd classify it as drama/thriller: the tension is present throughout the movie but the main feature is the development of the two leading characters. David Oyelowo's acting is solid but it's above all Kate Mara's performance that strikes the viewer with her portrait of a troubled woman trying to make sense of her life. The interaction between the two, ranging from violent to almost tender, is another leitmotif. I guess knowing the ending takes away a lot of the suspense making it predictable hence my summary line. All cast is up to the task and delivers nuanced work.

Profilage (2009–2020)

Profiling the french way
25 July 2015
This show centers on the character of criminologist Chloé Saint-Laurent, a young woman whose expertise and unorthodox methods help to solve police cases in Paris. While for the rest we have a standard french police series with the usual amount of crimes and personal life of the police unit members, what makes it unique it's her: goofy, bold, reasoning, she gets the job done her way. I don't think you can remain indifferent to the character: either you like her or not (personally I adore). She earned a place in the long list of eccentric people started, I believe, by Dr. House. The role is played by Odile Vuillemin. Update: season 7 sees the departure of Chloé, substituted by a new profiler, Adèle Delettre, a recurring character in the show. Her approach is very different from Saint-Laurent's and the series takes a more dramatic tone. A bit of sense of humour is missing so I'd give 7/10 to this new "profilage".
