Naadu (2023)
A good story, destroyed by mediocrity, and poor acting.
I watched this film with a lot of expectations, however the film fails miserably to impress. A good storyline that was marred by poor acting skills, and narration.
The doctor who arrives in a jaguar car, and looks like a model ready to walk the ramp does not cut much ice and is out of place in what is essentially a remote rural setting. The tiger looks so unreal, that it looks like one of the stuffed dolls that are sold on the roadside. Surely with today's visual effects one could always create a CGI tiger like in the movie, the life of pi.
The actors lack professional acumen, and look like amatuers who need to improve their acting skills.
While technically the film was good, it really failed to impress. What message was the director trying to convey here? Is he trying to convey that the NEET exam is unfair? Although the rest of the country accepts it, or does he convey that the standard of government schools in Tamilnadu is so bad, that a good student who gets excellent scores in her state board is unable to tackle a national eligibility exam.
J Baby (2024)
A great family movie, that rebuilds my hope for the tamil film industry.
A great film after a long time. This family drama surely shines out with outstanding performances by all the actors. Many of the actors are not big stars, apart from Urvasi, and they have proved that they can act better than any of those mass stars.
The real life army person has acted brilliantly and he has my adulation. He deserves an award for his potrayal. Reassuring to know that there are some good souls who live amongst us, always ready to give a helping hand to those in need. High time the tamil film industry threw out all these super stars, and mass stars and start producing small budget movies that have good quality, and wholesome entertainment for the entire family.
The Birdcatcher (2019)
A hidden gem that shines out.
This movie certainly deserves more than what has been awarded to it. A dismal 5.8. With beautiful locations, featuring the harsh winter of Norway, and photography that is nothing short of sheer genius, this movie stands out as a masterpiece. With great acting, by all involved I think this movie is a hidden gem of European cinema that shines out brightly. With a very simple story line, and using visuals that move in time to keep audiences guessing as to what to expect. Tense and gripping till the end, the movie ends with the return of kindness to one who had shown it earlier and saved her life.
Killshot (2008)
An edge of your seat hair raiser
Contrary to what many reviews say, this movie is right on target. A thriller like no other, with plenty of gory violence. Keeps you engaged till the last frame. Not Oscar worthy, but the ideal movie to watch on a lazy weekend.
The Kashmir Files (2022)
The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Finally a film that tells all, shows all. The fanatics who perpetrated the horror are now a disturbed lot. Hoping this will spur the supreme court to reopen cases pertaining to the planned genocide, and influence public opinion on the plight of Kashmiri pandits who are the original inhabitants of the valley.
Joji (2021)
Absolutely absorbing!!!
Easily one of the best movies to come out of Mollywood. The background score was captivating. I wonder if the soundtrack is available for sale.
