Resident Evil (2022)
Watch it for yourself
I put off watching it due to the poor reviews but found myself jumping in. I've never been a massive resident evil fan so them ruining the games really isn't an issue for me and for the most part, I found it fine. Now, the characters are horrible and not one of them are likable and I found myself hoping everyone would die. It has moments that are great especially scenes involving lickers and a spider. The games went off the rails and so does this. The focus is heavy on mutations as apposed to zombies with animals of all kinds poping up. If you are looking for trash TV with gore, this is it. Its not brilliant, but it's fine.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Pains me...
I don't normally leave reviews of films. I'll rate them and then move on. But bad boys for life ending has annoyed me so much, I feel I need to rant.
As a bad boys film it's decent. Not a patch on the first two but theres enough comedy and decent action set pieces that if you watched them all in a row, it wouldn't feel like something different. The end action sequence especially is fun.
Now to my issues. It lies in the story. And there are spoilers from here... Mike's son. The main bad guy who killed a lot of people including someone from previous films. He is kind of given a redemption moment where he says "no innocents" yet has killed people who have done his mother and deceased "father" wrong. They even him him help save Marcus at the end. This shouldn't happen. The guy killed a tone of people in the name of revenge. And the ending in which Mike approaches his maximum security cell and offers time off his sentence had me turn the film off immediately and walk away. If they continue with this series and shoehorn mike's son as a "bad boy" into the future installments I will pass. That one moment has almost ruined the entire series for me.
Kingdom (2019)
One of the best TV shows in years!
I finally got to sit down and watch this from start to finish and all I can really say is this shoe is everything walking dead wished it was. Firstly the setting creates a fear of the "monsters". No machine guns. No rocket launchers. Just single shot muskets and samurai swords. Every episode has enough wow moments to make you care about the world and is so well filmed and scripted I forgot I was watching a TV show. It's one of the best TV series I have ever seen.
The Wrong Trousers (1993)
Forget CGI. Claymation is the best!!!
Wallace and Gromit are great! Fact! And eccentric inventor, that looks like Prince Charles if he were bald, and a very clever dog whose eyebrows express his feeling more than words, makes for very enjoyable bank holiday viewing. The first 'film' (I put it like this because they are only about 30mins long) saw the duo fly to the moon. The third saw a cyborg dog. But this one, the second, surly wins it. A penguin disguised as a chicken, giant robotic trousers, a diamond robbery, and the greatest chase sequence ever, make this the best claymation film ever. Lets star at the beginning. Its Gromits birthday. He gets given a giant pair of mechanical trousers that Wallace makes to help take Gromit for his "walkies". Bills are too expensive so they have to rent out the spare room. A small penguin takes the room, however in the process kicking Gromit out the house, and stealing the trousers for a robbery. The only one who can stop him is Gromit. I wont give too much away, but its worth watching the first 20, very enjoyable, minutes just for the train chase at the end. I have these on DVD and i will never tire of that sequence. Its just brilliant!!
Undead (2003)
Shaun of the Dead goes down under
Working in a video shop, i get to view latest releases. This caught my eye with the label 'Shaun of the Dead goes down under'. Now, i loved SWhaun of the dead! It was funny, clever, and gory. Seeing this on the DVD case, i had to watch it. And i loved it. The violence, the wit, everything was great. One particular moment being when a shovel in stabbed into a zombies head and the zombie getting stuck under a sign. With a higher budget (to afford better CGI) this would have challenged both Shaun and Braindead (another export of Austrailia) for and all time great Zombie movies. I would have given this film 10, if the introduction of aliens hadn't left we wondering what i had missed. But it deservedly stands along side Shaun of the Dead as a great zombie fest. It even betters Shaun of the Dead in someways. Watch it. You will love it.Promise!
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
Oh look, now hes a philosopher!
There is something funny about stupid films. Just look at the Montey Python series. This film is stupid. This film is daft But it is very funny. White Goodman. What a legend. Ben Stiller created the perfect 'villian' in this. Villain i suppose is a strong word, as you end up falling for his stupid comments, and actually feel a little bit sorry for him at the end. Vince Vaughn is good as Peter La Fleur. However, towards the end, i actually prefer White Goodman. If 'Le Loser' didn't have a bunch of great and very lovable characters on his side, then id have been rooting on Stiller. Justin Long is great. The flashback to his cheer leading audition is one of the funniest things i have seen for a long time. However, the best part is the dodge balling itself. Half of this film is the tournament itself. And boy is it great. Patches O'Houlihan has the best lines in this section, and until his demise, was becoming as good as Goodman. A favourite quote being 'Your about as useful as a cock flavoured lollipop'. Great stuff. People talk about this film as being predictive and obvious. But who cares. Its not called 'a true underdogs story' for nothing, and no matter how many times i see a Dodgeball hitting someone, i still let out a little giggle. This film is a dig at other films like 'Mighty Ducks'. but this is funny. This is the funniest 'sports' film ever. Bring on Dodgeball 2, or a film about Beachballing
