Black Adam (2022)
man this movie was horrible..
Seriously. You can tell it was written by a "team" who had no clue what each other was doing and all wanted something different.. social justice message? Check. Annoying kid who is seemingly indestructible and has a wisecrack for everything? Check. Self-righteous superheroes? Check. Fire-zombies? Check. Good hero gone bad gone good gone maybe? Check. Diverse cast just because? Check. The list goes on. I'm just surprised they didn't include alien vs. Predator for kicks, oh wait, different franchise.
Did anyone not read the script and think, "hmmm. Maybe we should have something that makes sense?" apparently not. Why does their 'indestructible' super jet fly across the world in hours, but takes overnight to fly what could be only a few hundred miles at most to reach a mine in the center of a small country? Black adam is a 'demi-god' but mere mortal hawkman can go toe-to-toe with him?
See it for the special effects and explosions galore. But leave your brain at the door. Or just wait for the dvd.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
A super hero show with heart
Not your typical super hero show. We don't have the main character battling it out with a new super villain every week. She has a family, friends, and is trying to figure it all out as best as she can. The show weaves this all together in a colorful, musical, entertaining story that shows depth to the characters and isn't just focused on slugging it out every week.
The special effects are well done. The scenery and costumes are amazing. The soundtrack is exotic, not your typical fare, and complements the scenes very well. And the acting is very well done.
If you want to watch a "super hero action show" then this isn't it. If you want to watch the life of a teenager, this isn't it. If you want to watch a family drama, this isn't it. But if you want to watch an entertaining show that balances all three incredibly well, then this should be the show you watch.
Moonfall (2022)
catwoman in space?
Halle, what were you thinking? Wasn't there a sequel to catwoman that could have been made instead?
Bad story. Bad plot. Bad technical mumbo-jumbo. Bad acting.
Seriously. What was anyone associated with this movie thinking?
Naomi: Zero to Sixty (2022)
just a mess
Too many conspiracy theory mystery plots that don't make any sense. Characters that consistently make poor choices for no reason. Too many teenage romance triangles. The dialog, ugh. This show is just a hot mess. Don't get too invested, I don't give it more than one season.
Debris (2021)
convoluted, nonsenscial mess.
Secret high-tech agencies. Mysterious strange events. Team partners hiding huge secrets from each other.
The basic premise of the show makes no sense. Debris from an alien spaceship falling to earth (which the general public somehow doesn't know about) and each piece has a different magical property? My car gets into a wreck and pieces scatter along the road, each piece doesn't have some different magical property. Why would this apparently huge space ship?
Too many untrustworthy secret government agents and secret organization lackies (who all look like angry millenials) and conspiracies, characters with no real development that we are supposed to care about?
What a disappointment. Don't expect much from this show, or a second season.
Bonding (2018)
unexpected gem
Really enjoyed this show. was expecting some silly show about bondage, good for a few awkward laughs. found a show with some surprising characters, great acting, and yeah, some awkward laughs. hope it's around for a while.
Synchronic (2019)
Better than you think..
This is an interesting thriller, mystery movie that happens to have a sci-fi element to it. Was a lot better than I expected it to be. Characters were believable and interesting. Definitely worth a watch.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
so much potential, drown out by political messages..
I really wanted to like the reboot, love the old series. this one could have been a hit, good actors, decent budget, but pretty much every episode was just too political nature. disappointing. episodes weren't entertaining, just bogged down.
hope the next season drops the political themes and gets us more twilight zone worthy stories.
The Gifted (2017)
ugh. flashy, predictable, wooden
sorry, not going to go all fanboy for this rehash of yet another hunted mutant show. The story line is completely predictable, the acting is very wooden (Stephen Moyer seems like he's still playing Vampire Bill), and lots of flashy CGI. Looks like Fox TV has the rights to the word "mutant" and can name-drop "set in the X-Men universe" and even some minor characters (Thunderbird, Polaris, Blink) for some fan recognition. But unless the writing and acting get better very fast this won't last a season, if that.
