Should have been a movie
It's not a totally hopeless show. But it's waaaay too long.
I can see how they want to build up the story nice and slow, but it does actually get a bit boring.
This could have been an OK movie.
But a whole series?
Naw, don't think so.
Gallowwalkers (2012)
The land of confusion
Aside from some well executed make-up and some nice effects the script is a total mess. Wesley Snipes monologue about a third into to the movie is mostly embarrassing. What was the director thinking of?
There's just too much going on and too few explanations why they are going on. 17 million dollar budget? The should have used one million more to get a decent screenplay.
But if you don't worry too much about incoherency, lack of depth in characters, contrived dialogs or the sight of Wesley Snipes failing to look miserable when he ought to then I guess this movie will do if there's absolutely nothing else you'd rather watch on a boring Sunday afternoon.
The Sweeney (2012)
Where did the logic go?
Beautifully acted, nicely shot, some great confrontations, but what happened to the story and the logic?
"It's this guy! He did it!" "Oh, why is that...?"
"I nicked him when he was young..." "Ah, OK. Let's get him."
45 minutes later.
"It wasn't him. It's this other guy!"
"Oh, why is that...?" "There's a picture of him and the murder victim with his fingerprint on it..." "Ah, OK. Let's get him."
OK. I overdid the actual dialog a bit. The fact remains that the actual detective work to get out there and nab another suspect i sorely lacking in this film. It feels like maybe they had to scrap some scenes that strengthened the reasons for another shoot-out.
Also, some suspicions of foul play from the Sweeney squad was a nice twist that never got straightened out.
So, good basic premises, but poorly executed as far as a storyline that actually holds water is concerned.
Down the Road (2012)
Erm,not that great...
The last reviewer, who gave it a ten out of ten, for some reason was written by someone who has the same name as the person who actually did the special effects for this low-budget horror. Although they were actually decent, the film has nothing we haven't seen before. It suffered quite heavily from slow pacing and some of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen people do in a movie.
Example: Wounded girl gets into car after running from crazy killer. Wounded girl tells driver (bloody and hysterical btw): Whatever you do don't stop, just drive. Driver says: There's someone on the road. I'm just gonna pull over...
I mean, really?
Us horror buffs may accept a lot of stupid decisions (going into dark basements etc) but some of the things people do in this movie is just taking it a bit far, yes?
Only reason it gets a three is because there a couple of creative kills that I enjoyed. You may fast forward some in between the goodies though...
