Ted (2024)
Blaire should get her own spinoff
Blaire was incredible.
It's a real hit-or-miss show (kinda like the great original "Ted" movie). But when it hits and the jokes land? It's amazing.
I felt it kept getting better with each episode, especially when we got attached to other characters as well.
The family dynamic seems weird at first, even if you lived through the 90s yourself. But there is something to be said for how uncompromising the show is when it comes to Matty (the dad) and his... opinions.
Ted is incredible as always although there seens to be a concentrated effort for him not to steal the show and leave room for the rest of the cast.
Loved many moments and jokes, fast-forwarded some other ones. Do not regret the time spent on this series and will be looking for season 2.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 24: The Return (2023)
It could all end here
What an episode. So tense and hopeless at times, but then The Force always comes through against the forces of darkness, eventually in this franchise.
Yes, you could argue that maybe not everything should work out as easily for the "good guys" as it did, but I don't care. This was the way. And plot-armour aside, it was a pretty stressful watch in various stages. Especially for Grogu.
Grogu was amazing in this episode. The best Star Wars character in history (change my mind).
Where does the show go from here? I honestly would be fine with the whole series ending here and now. All loose ends are tied up for now so maybe lets give our heroes some time off. They deserve it.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: A Normal Amount of Rage (2022)
best start to any Marvel series!
To introduce a character in 30 minutes and make people love that character needs a masterclass in making TV. And "She-Hulk" S01E01 is a masterclass.
The acting, the pacing and the way that start of the story was told? Really unmatched in any other Marvel show till now.
It's funny, it's real and it's about a strong female (even before she gets the green stuff).
Some people will hate it, but that just means it's a show about something more than a super-hero and makes it's even more worth watching. Can't wait for more episodes to come out!
Inni ludzie (2021)
Love Maslowska and rap, but...
I believe Dorota Maslowska changed a generation with her early novels. I love her unique style, word play, humour, wit. And I love rap lyrics.
But I hated this movie.
I wasn't much impressed with the book "Other People" when it came out. Yes, it was an experiment, but unlike her debut novel, the form she chose did not justify the existence of the book.
Pretty much the same can be said for the movie.
The plot is shallow. The script is predictable. The actors didn't have a lot to work, even the main character remains an unexplored galaxy. So the execution does not help although Sonia Bohosiewicz gave it her best shot.
Thumbs up for the trigger warning in the beginning.
As for the rest: too little with almost endless possibilities. Even the photography is hardly imaginative, but maybe I'm expecting too much after watching "Euphoria" lately.
Here drugs and alcohol are also involved but it's not a shiny, colourful ride. It's a slow-burn in which the feeling of regret comes much too early.
Kevin Hart: Irresponsible (2019)
Painful to watch
I'm a big stand up fan. I like some things about Kevin Hart's personality, I loved his book. I like him in some TV interviews when he's calm and collected. He can talk smart, be witty.
That's when he's funny.
This special is not of of these occasions. It's the Hart that's screaming at a low pitch, sweating, yelling, doing too much. Telling us how every story he tells is a "real story".
Sorry, Kev. I'm a fan of your grind, but seeing you do this... It's really painful to watch.
The Gambler (2014)
Existentialism, Mark Wahlberg and an unlikely blockbuster
It's rare you get a movie in which a college English professor teaching the modern novel is both a notorious gambler, fatalist and... Mark Wahlberg.
Anyone who rates this movie below 7 stars should brush up on their Camus and Sartre. It's entairtainment, some clichés, golden dialogue (and monologue), but the strong spine is there, a mix of genres to remember.
You wouldn't expect it to be a movie you can watch in a college philosophy class, but it is really mostly that. The "gangster plot" is just a simple excuse. You can gamble on this and do it big too.
Elementary: The Illustrious Client (2015)
Kitty's dark sub-plot takes center stage
We've all known that the darkest part of Kitty's past is going to be revisited at some point in this season, but I don't think we were ready for that much. One of the rare times on Elementary when you are actually scared for the characters' well-being. The air of uncertainty and horror is all around as the ones who usually hunt the criminals become the hunted. The ending was heart-breaking and will make every fan of the show anticipate the next episode so much more. Surprisingly, it was almost as good as the Moriarty episode (e23?) in season one with almost as strong of a twist at the end. We are in for a treat in the upcoming episode, I hope (the Moriarty follow-up did not go as well).
