Road House (2024)
A poor reimagining of the 1989 original.
Where to start is tricky as this film has so many issues. Firstly none of the characters are allowed to develop and grow, therefore the viewer looses that all important connection and the in the end I didn't really care what happened to any of them.
The plot has no depth at all we never really saw why Dalton is being paid the huge sum of money a week. His reasons for accepting the job aren't explained and he's doesn't question what the hell is actually going. He doesn't really help the staff that much either unlike in the original so you kinda see things just move on without him really doing much.
The scenes are spread to thin so screen time for a number of characters is limited and they are under utilised.
Casting is awful, the villains are appalling with their acting especially McGregor who has a ridiculous accent, a stupid grin and bizarre walk. It all felt very forced.
CGI is pretty poor especially the boat scenes where it looks like they are floating on the water.
There is a lack of chemistry between all the characters and it just isn't believable. Why do bar fights break out randomly all the time.
Death and Other Details (2024)
Other people reviewing this aren't looking at the bigger picture.
When you think about about a whodunit what exactly are your expectations. If like me you've watched all the Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Murder She Wrote etc.. you will be aware that you need a few key things:
1. A range of suspects, 2. A proper timeline of events, 3. Red herings (not too many), 4. Suspenseful and atmospheric dialogue that sets the mood, 5. Active involvement from the viewers point of view, 6. Clues that are a mixture of obvious to not, 7. A tight conclusion.
This show has all these elements and together with some of the most ravishing costume and wardrobe attire I've ever seen, it's a classy piece of sexy, seductive, stylish, well thought out and acted, satisfying conundrum.
I'll admit at first the flashback scenes are a little confusing but it quickly becomes clear what it's trying to achieve.
I think at the time of writing 6.8 is way below what this deserves, so here's an 10 from me.
The OA (2016)
So I thought Mr and Mrs Smith was bad...
This is quite honestly a joke of a TV series. Complete nonsense and throughly boring to the point it makes Mr and Mrs Smith award winning material.
I'd love to know what was Jason Issacs was thinking when he and his agent agreed to take the role. Sadly not even his presence and ability is enough to save this ship from sinking into the abyss, the story literally has no consistent flow or engagement.
However to top it off, I guess at the next IRL school shooting in the US this might actually encourage students and staff to start dancing in front of a person with a weapon, totally stupid and the makers should be ashamed for this scene. I was hoping for them tovall be killed off. Youcask whats the reason for a silly dance to Gwen Stefani song they do this so the protagonist can sod off to another dimension, it's totally ridiculous.
This is likely to appeal to crackheads, for the the rest of us it is absolutely farcical and not worth 7 hours of your life.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Bizarre, boring and bad.
A remarkable disaster with little going for it other than some laughs and cameos of actors that were okay. This is 85% dialogue and 15% action, making it an all boring affair.
Sadly it jist wasn't believable in that they would be picked as agents, they come across as so naive and adolescent. Who would seriously have hired them, whatever organisation hired them did not carry out enough background checks, in nearly all situations John/Jane they were pretty useless. They were told to leave there old lives but that clearly didn't happen, what sort of organisation is this that hired them?
The conversations between the pair were bizarre, I can't tell if the direction and chemistry between Jane and John was to either make them connected or not, the acting felt forced either way and didn't deliver a conclusion or any character progression. I couldnt feel any connection with the characters, so I didn't care what happend to them.
In fact there was far to much talking, it slowed everything down, for example ep6 with the therapist was totally pointless and added nothing and neither did John's mother turning up announced at their house right before they start shooting at each other.
There were plot holes with some of the missions for example ep1 where was the cake lady going with the cake/bomb. In nearly each mission thee was little reasonsing provided to viewers why John/Jane were doing what they were asked to. The info given for missions was so vague it was no wonder they failed 3 of them.
Pretty poor effort really. I'm sure there will be a S2 but it's highly likely I'll be giving it a miss.
Obliterated (2023)
Ridiculously...
Fun!
That sums it up really, mayhem, carnage, boobs, babes, hot guys, crazy action like huge explosions, martial arts, gun fire, silly death and torture secenes, plenty of bad guys, an abohorent amount of booze and narcoticsand one liner comedy moments which are crass and rude.
The most crazy part is the something I thought I'd only see in porn films minus the torture element of the sounding rod.
It reminds me a little of the crank, hardcore henry and drive angry films with the madness and mindless violence.
It won't be for the faint of heart but it's genuinely an eye opener and for those that aren't squeamish a barrel of laughs over the festive period.
The Terminal List (2022)
Terminally painful
Too slow and dull esepcially with the over numerous memories Reece has. The action sequences were okay but nothing spectacular by today's standards don't go thinking this is The Raid or something. The plot was nothing that have not seen before and when it turned out to be the friend at the end it was all too much off a cliche. An average fare unfortunately.
This Is MY House (2021)
I pay a TV licence crap like this?
No wonder people are shifting away from terrestrial TV if this is the garbage that is churned out.
The sooner the TV licence is abolished the better.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
The Matrix (Parody)
I loved the first movie it is one of my favourites of all time and the sequels were okay. I had to watch the third movie twice to fully understand it but still that is cut and above this fourth installment though I did enjoy much at all.
The first 40 minutes or so were really strange and it felt like I was viewing a parody of jokes aimed at the original movie which I didn't really understand why nor appreciate. The remainder of the films provides a confusing plot, poor CGI, and overly cute robots which for me really lacks all the dark, mysterious and edge of your seat thrill action ride that the original provided from start to finish.
After the shoddy star wars rehashes its a shame that more classic sci fi action/adventure movies are being rebooted so poorly.
Overall a disappointing and poor effort. 4/10.
Prometheus (2012)
Garbage
This is nowhere near Alien, Aliens or Alien 3 which is saying something. It's a long drab, drawn out contrived mess. Best to pretend this doesn't exist.
I onde dager (2021)
Pleasantly surpising
If you like twisted dark or black comedy with murder and blood, this is a film for you. If you don't like subtitles or dubbing then give it a miss. Actually surprised this didn't get an 18 rating it's got a fair bit of strong gory and bloody violence particularly towards the end. It was worth seeing though on a cold Monday night.
Red Notice (2021)
Average action fare
I'd love to know where the $200m was spent on this. Presumably 85% on Dwayne, Ryan and Gal's salaries because this film is extraordinarily average. The plot isn't new and takes a large number of influences from far better movies from the 80s, 90s and 00s, for example Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Mummy, Thomas Crown Affair and Oceans 11/12. The visuals are poor, the camera work shoddy, action sequences are boring at times and the fight choreography is miles off something like The Raid. The dialogue has some funny moments but it's really all few and far between. Acting is standard from Dwayne, Ryan is probably the winner out of the three stars as Gal is sadly not great at all, being beautiful doesn't mean you can act! Overall worth seeing if you have Netflix and probably best aimed at families, but I'm sadly disappointed with this effort, perhaps the sequel will deliver something original and polished.
Orphan Black (2013)
Cannot fault Tatiana Maslany
Her ability in this is quite astounding and to give it anything less than 7 would do her injustice. However, there are some plot holes and characters that dissappear not to be seen again with no explanation and at times it's incredibly frustrating to watch when characters just don't help themselves. In addition some episodes are lacking in development and progression particularly season 3/4. Overall not something you'll have seen before and there are some real laugh out loud moments as well as squmish. Final thought is that it actually had a well rounded ending for a change.
S.W.A.T. (2017)
For the love of god will you just stop spinning
Endless questions.
Honestly the camera person must have been out of his head after every shot in SWAT HQ. HQ Speaking of HQ how comes just about anyone can stroll in?
Why is this show so damn preachy and why are they all trying to be so perfect? This shouldn't be designated survivor.
It's completely convenient and nearly each mission is too damn easy?
Why is the acting so cheesy?
Why do they say give me two evey 5 seconds?
What are those purple bomb things?
Why is the whole thing so unrealistic?
Does LA SWAT have that bigger budget?
This is destined for daytime American TV pretty sure it will win loads of awards.
