Inspiring Story Well Told
12 December 2019
We have a really good television at home, so we look for movies that benefit from the really big screen when we go out. This film is visually spectacular! It tells the historical narrative with enough human interest to pull you in (my wife agrees.) Well acted and directed. I have some theater background so I can be somewhat critical at times. I have nothing to criticize here. An inspirng story well told.

Sincere but Uneven Effort
19 November 2019
This is a low budget exercise with an uneven story, switching randomly between story lines. It couldn't be consistent with the found footage genre--featuring several angles and shots of scenes featuring main characters--which was distracting. Frequently alludes to being "In the Rockies" but mostly shot in flat savannah, river floodplains or irrigation ditches. Early on a main character is floating DOWNSTREAM to reach the mountains. Huh? Zombies roam main street for a long time before the crack reporters pick up on it. These might have been overlooked with a less predictable plot. Still, you might enjoy it for its sincerity. Just keep your expectations low.

Pretty and Average

Scenery is very nice, photography is rich and saturated. Kind of an average "television movie" but not horrible.

Fun Men's Adventure
21 March 2019
Top actors playing fallible characters on location in a high testosterone adventure. Language throughout is realistic to the characters and situations. Good suspense with a few surprises. Definitely worth the watch and much better than most made-for-Netflix movies. I reserve 8 and above stars for memorable movies...This one is just fun.

Disappointing
8 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show makes Oak Island look brilliant. 4 episodes in and virtually nothing substantial has happened. Dull characters following rumors all over the continent in search of evidence of why investors should foot the bill for an underwater search of Lake Michigan. (Lagina seems brighter than this.) Maybe the found treasure is the money they make on the TV program itself. 3 stars might be generous. I feel kind of sorry for them.

Good Tribute Movie
4 January 2019
Pros: Good lead actors, touching cameos, enthralling production values and state of the art special effects. Blunt in particular made the part her own, with a bit more sauce than the '64 version.

Cons: The tunes, however will not follow you home, or even to the parking lot. A fantasy adventure becomes quite dark while the children are in Mary's care, and one of Mary's songs is practically vaudeville, therefore, out of character.

Bottom line: My 9 star rating boils down to this: I felt like a kid again!

Beautiful
24 December 2018
Probably the most beautiful film of our time. A musical of such style and grace one hardly expects to encounter anymore. Can you find things to criticize? Of course, but, the analytical mind rather misses the point of this film.

Mama Meh

Not a big fan, though I usually like musicals and love Meryl. I hate to say it, but the truth is, this is a chic flick for older chicks (I am not one) still entertaining fantasies of 1) their own allure and 2) finding romance. The music is good if you like the genre. Buy an Abba album and skip the cliches.

Okay summer movie
16 June 2017
47 Meters gives a few thrills and some of the usual, predictable tensions. If you expect a fun summer shark flick, you should be pleased enough. Maybe because I am older, I found the "girls" annoying and at one point muttered aloud, "Eat them. Now." The premise, risking your life for the approval of some guy who has moved on, had me less than sympathetic to their plight. But this is a film for (young) non-thinkers who want a scare or 2. And it does deliver those.

I wanted to love this movie...
5 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to love this movie, but I only liked it. I am a Theatre guy, love great musicals, appreciate the theater geek appeal of the plot in this film. But I couldn't help wonder, why couldn't they say, "See you in a few months" if they loved each other all that aching much? And while I enjoyed the music (they are not singers really) most of it was forgotten before I got into the car. Not one song stuck with me! I liked the leads acting. Hollywood needed some positive PR, and this colorful postcard shows you just what they want you to see of LA.
