Boy Swallows Universe (2024)
An entertaining watch
First, hat tip to young Eli - he has to be a superstar. Amazing actor.
Overall, the plot moves well. Some exceptional performances. The main villain throughout is well casted, Eli's stepdad plays his role amazingly also.
Overall, it's casted so well which adds to the watch and makes it that much more believable. At times it is a little OTT. But it does cast a nice balance of emotions, and creates really great characters who you're really rooting for.
Overall, it's definitely worth a watch. It develops excellent characters and a story which really captures emotion.
I think (and hope) this will be the start of an exciting acting career for Eli.
Fool Me Once (2024)
Good binge watch
I see a lot of reviews are really negative...
Is it far fetched? Yes, absolutely. But aren't they all?
Are there some parts that don't really need to be there? Yes. But all in all, it moves at a fast pace throughout and always keeps you guessing. Entertaining, pretty well casted anx overall a good watch I thought.
It's very easy to binge watch, very hard to switch between episodes, so be warned, it may capture you for the day.
All in all, a very entertaining watch once you don't overthing it. You'll be guessing throughout, just gloos over the inconsistencies and occasional plot holes and it's good.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
6.5 is a generous rating.
It's long, yet nothing happens. It's over reliant on loud noises and a build up for nothing happening. Too much left unexplained throughout, lots of loose ends which are never really tied together. In essence, it's a build up of lots of things that might be, with clarity never offered at any point. Upon finishing, I was certain it was the beginning of a series - but no.
The characters leave a lot to be desired. Not one is really likeable, you don't find yourself ropting for any of them. It's as if the writers got bored towards then end. Not reason or rhyme for most of it, the character actions are silly and unreasonable throughout. Great cast wasted on an awful plot. Typical Netflix movie.
Barber (2023)
Really bad script
Just disappointing from start to finish. It failed to capture, failed to take off. At no point does it ever feel captivating or progressing. The writing is poor and some of the scenes it creates are cringe at best. I'm all for Irish films, but the story in this lasts little in the memory. Though the film was just 90 minutes or so, I honestly felt like it was much longer due to how slowly it moved and how lacking the scenes were of interesting dialogue. Overall, i was hoping for the best, but some of the casting was questionable - but even so, the script content never really had much hope. I would recommend avoiding.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Low hanging fruit - it has been done already.
So it took the violence, gore, nudity, sex... but this is no longer enough. It lacked haracters. The CGI was awful on the dragons. Really poor opener.
The Sandman (2022)
Clever!
I would give the first half a 10, and the second half a 6 (series 1), they don't really overlap. One final episode of the first half is one the best epispdes of a series that I have watched - it was brilliantly done. Great idea, could still offer more. Was definitely worth a watch.
Echoes (2022)
So bad.
I literally had to stop watching this. The characters, the constant fishing and sharing. The lack of characters who you root for. It's just SO bad. Avoid.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Boring, predictable, cringe.
Characters are totally OTT, situations are OTT, it's just bad. Actors aren't that likeable, plot is just messy, stories are ridiculously far fetched. It's neither one thing or the other.
Cyrano (2021)
Just Ok, but just about.
A plot which just doesn't seem to marry up the beginning, middle and end. Dramatic decisions which don't really match the story and seem pointless. An ending which is so out of place and makes the movie quite pointless.
1 excellent scene featuring Glen Hansard scored an extra point for me.
All in all, really poor story line, with music nowhere near good enough to carry it, as other good musicals could.
Soul (2020)
A nice watch
Like pretty much all of these movies, it's a nice watch. At times it felt a little longer than it needed to be, but nice story and well done.
Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes (2021)
Good watch, but wow...
It's a tough watch at times due to the nature, but it's really well done. Good watch and done in a unique way from all perspectives...
F9 (2021)
This was so bad, even tbe script pokes fun at it
Ok, you know it will be far fetched / ricidiculous... but this? OH MY LORD SWEET BABY JESUS WITH UNCLE NOAHS BOAT!!!
How did they move from the original car plot to being the vest crime fighting super agents in the universe?!
The cast poke fun at the ridiculousness. The fascination with MAGNETS ffs...the stunts were totally and utterly ridiculous. The plots were beyond AWFUL. Like it's as if the writer just got bored every now and again and just changed his mind. Cheesey, dreadful, and just stunts which were so ridiculous, it might as well have been a lego movie. Avoid.... unless you wabt to hear 'toretto' spoken about like he is a world famous god for 2+hours.
It's a Sin (2021)
Easiest 10 i've ever given
Everything about this is brilliant.
Firstly the cast. Learning a singer is playing a lead seemed tokenistic, until he played the character perfectly - as all of them were!
The story made you laugh then cry, whilst accompanied by some of the best scenes i've ever seen in a series.
A thing i wondered about was the need for nudity and sex scenes... but then I thought that was why they were there - to highlight the uncomfortable side that still has in society, the shame associated...
10/10.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
It was ok, but got worse as it went on.
There are holes in the story you can forget due to the nature of the plot. However, certain parts add nothing. The two boys who helped out really didnt add anything. The affair didnt really. And it was a small town where people start dropping like flies qnd noboy puts it together. The cop can't arrest him after his wife was killed with his own axe?!
All that takes a back seat for the ending. Such lazy script writing which lets down other entertaining parts of the movie.
The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
Neither one thing or the other
I was surprised to see this be listed as a 'dark comedy'. It doesn't come close to providing a single laugh out loud moment, not even a giggle. The story is obvious and progressively becomes more irritating as it gets on. Poor movie which is just ridiculous for most of it.
Taking Lives (2004)
Dreadfully predictable and full of chichés...
The movie is bad to begin with and gets worse. Weak plot, doesn't add up at times and predictable throughout.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Dark, but great.
An ever moving story is complimented by a perfect cast who really make this brilliant. Well written, captivating and memorable movie for the right reasons.
El hoyo (2019)
It could have been good
It could have been good, but the plot didn't move a lot. The ending wasn't an ending, it left us in limbo. First half of the movie was good, but the second half was disappointing. Nothing was explained, the plots didn't develop, there was no explanation.
Justine (2019)
Disappointing from start to finish
Anticlimax throughout. Hard to like any of the characters, with little reason given for emotions expressed. Characters are given insights which aren't really shown during their screen time, a lot of the characters aren't utilized making the overall film quite dull and uneventful.
Mid90s (2018)
Not for me
Was a bit of a painful watch. Slow, uneventful, no beginning middle or an end. No feeling or care for main characters. It was more like a school educational movie of why you should behave.
American Son (2019)
Too many monologues, too little story, awful.
This was a disgrace of a movie and the laziest movie I've ever watched. I would liken it to sitting in an A&E waiting room with earphones in for 90 minutes. Absolutely awful and the most unenjoyable movie I've ever watched. You can make political statements and portray messages without putting us through such an awful movie.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Just OK
Imm surprised this won oscars. Ok, a great Rami Malek performance. But when yiu're impersonating such a character, surely it's a litte easier? The story didn't reflect several realities, especially perceived arrogance of Queen and the fact it was a huge reason why a lo of people didn't like them at one stage. It is about Freddy, but it's not - a film on Freddy would have been so much better, but as if the other Queen members wanted their bits in it too... overrated - this is a weak potrayol of a documentary which misses too much.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Good soundtrack, not greatest movie
The soundtrack really gets a couple of the marks for this. Decent movie, but not a classic.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Great film
It's so well casted it's scary. It's rare to see a couple on film who genuinely seem in love, I got it from this movie. The relationship seemed so genuine a consistent throughout. Fantastic soundtrack
Deadpool 2 (2018)
For me, this had everything
Action, comedy, emotion and a decent sound track. This movie had it all.
