Judging from the reviews here you either love this movie or you absolutely hate it. I for one loved it. Being from Austria myself, you often get confronted with Schiele and Klimt - especially in Vienna, to a point where you're basically sick of it. Because of that I never got to fully appreciate these two artists until much later. This movie did help me to appreciate the artwork more. I was able to see this movie at the premiere in Austria when it came out and haven't seen it since then (though I would like to) and I had to think about it many times since then.

I can imagine that the reason many people didn't like this movie was because it's not what they expected.

If you want to see a straight forward, biographical accurate movie about the life of Gustav Klimt, then this movie isn't for you.

The basic premise is that Gustav Klimt is lying on his death bed and in a manner of flashbacks you get to see random scenes about a fictitious story revolving around a mysterious woman. Blinded by the fever, the scenes appear surreal and deliver a feeling similar to what you may feel upon viewing Klimt's artwork.

There's no straight plot following this movie and the real Klimt may not have been the way he appears in the movie, but that was never intended anyway. What this movie does is brilliantly deliver an atmosphere very fitting to the Wiener Moderne. The very important "Kaffeehaus Kultur" at the time, where intellectuals of Vienna spent the entire day in coffee houses is portrayed very precisely as well.

I also think that Malkovich and Nikolai Kinski seem to be a near perfect cast for Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.

Anyway, if you've read this review and get the feeling that this movie is not for you, then don't watch it. But if you're intrigued by what you've read then by all means, go see this movie!

I saw that movie about a year ago and still occasionally think about it and chuckle. Needless to say I really enjoyed this and got a kick out of a lot of the references. Being an art student myself I can somewhat relate to how the art scene works and in some cases it's pretty spot on to the movie. I was actually shocked to see how many people supposedly hated this movie. This is not only a really original idea for a horror movie, but it also has interesting characters, nice gore and effects and some really good laughs. More than can be said about most horror movies. I actually just ordered the DVD (I rarely buy DVDs) and I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie again (I hope it's uncut).

I'm not going to add much, since most has been said already. I just wanted to state that I really enjoyed this movie. It not only pays a good homage to the classic EC comics (or at least the adapted early movie versions or series) but it manages to portray profound messages in a very powerful manner. The effects are pretty good as well and there's some nice gore so horror fans should be satisfied. I think that it's really one of the few movies that successfully combine horror and moral.

The soundtrack is also very good - This movie was made in 95' - a time where hip hop in my opinion had reached it's highest point. So it's definitely worth a look!

Now, I'm not really a stranger when it comes to zombie movies, having seen more than just a handful of them. But I think that it is still safe to say that this movie certainly is among the lines of one of the better zombie movies out there.

I can't remember ever having been that impressed with any 'modern horror movie' for a while now. There isn't a single aspect about this movie that I could have imagined to be better. Although there are a lot more characters than in the original, each of them does manage to maintain a different personality which therefor doesn't make them appear to be just 'fill-ins'. The gore and effects are undeniably amazing and there are scenes that might even make the biggest gore fans cringe (chainsaw). What's also interesting is that this remake manages to capture the same dark humor as well as the claustrophobic feel (although not as intense) as the original. There isn't a single minute that's remotely 'boring' (even though many people will deny it, it's probably even more exiting than Romero's version) and it has some nice twists in it. Overall, this is an amazing movie that I would recommend to anyone ..

Now first is to be said, that this movie is of course not for anyone. But I have to admit that I myself rather enjoyed this movie. I would consider it to be more of an art movie than horror. What makes this movie so impressive is, that it takes a topic for 'normal people' so revolting and taboo, and manages to make it appear almost 'beautiful'. I have to somewhat admit, that while seeing the scene where the main character and his girlfriend sleep with the corpse, I felt no way digusted in any way. The music (which is extremely well made as well) and the entire atmosphere of this scene manages to make it appear less 'revolting'.

Of course there is that infamous 'rabbit killing scene' but it has to be said, that this wasn't done for the movie. They merely filmed a working process, that happens every single day...

Overall I really liked this movie and would recommend it to anyone who has shown enough interest as to reading my full review..
