The House Across the Street (2022)
Soooo bad!!!
This is one of the worst shows I've ever watched, and I've seen a lot.
Shirley Henderson made me want to rub sandpiper on my private's and not in a good way. Her acting is sooo bad it's embarrassing. The plot is ridiculous and the acting from all parties is amateur dramatics. I thought that C5 were upping their game but it's obvious that they still produce third rate dramas such as this. I wouldn't recommend this to my dog let alone other humans as you would have more fun watching the adverts in between this tosh.
I have rated it one star as I can't give it a zero rating and can Shirley Henderson not grace our screens again.
Brazil (1985)
WTF!!
I don't even know where to start. In terms of cinematography it gets an A+. Strong performances from all the actors, which would be expected from the quality on show.
The rest of it is an overblown mishmash of I don't know what. I would imagine like Terry Gilliams other movies you need to be on some form of mind altering drug to make sense of it. Saying that, I rate 12 monkeys as an excellent film.
I had this on my Amazon wish list for about a year as I had heard generally good things, but definitely not my cup of tea and I wouldn't recommend as there are better things to watch in two hours.
The Responder (2022)
Awesome
Highly recommended, the whole cast is great, but Martin Freeman's performance is amazing, playing a copper on the edge..
BBC back on form after some recent dramas of terrible quality.
Rules of the Game (2022)
Awful
Just awful...don't waste your treasured viewing hours on this.
Talented cast wasted on an awful screenplay and direction.
Why the BBC commissioned this I have no idea.
Riviera (2017)
What happened?
Season 1 & 2 held their own, with some good parts.
Season 3 could be some of the worst TV I've watched. The writer must have been smoking crack. Hammy dialogue and the acting is truly appalling.
The best thing is the scenery, some beautiful shots.
Avoid season 3 at all costs, unless you like punishing yourself.
White Lines (2020)
4 stars is for Daniel Mays and the scenery.
Could have been good, but is drawn out, badly written, in the main poorly acted with a couple of exceptions.
The Axel character is so unlikeable that i Wasn't surprised somebody offed him early doors.
Netflix when bad does bad very well.
Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich (2020)
?? Was this made in a rush for lockdown?
Very very average.
Lots of unsubstantiated claims by various individuals throughout.
The best of them most was definitely the internet engineer on the island who saw "lots of girls" there.
Come on Netflix, expect a lot more than this.
There is so much more to this story that this lazy documentary is telling.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Snooze fest...
Generally im a fan of Kubrick, but this is just awful..I gave it two stars purely due to his other films.
Drawn out and over bloated.
The best part of it is the music score.
Alpha (2018)
Bought a tear to my eye..
Very simple story, well told, amazing scenery shots. Sometimes the CGI looks obviously fake.
But all in all a well told, flowing movie with some genuinely touching moments.
And yes I cried at the end...
Hands of Stone (2016)
Boxing with no blood
Outstanding lead performance from Ramirez. Ok it's no raging bull or Rocky for that matter but it tells an inspiring story of one of the most underrated and frustrating boxers of our time.
De Niro awesome as always and the story flows with conviction.
The boxing scenes are well shot and frenetic enough to not need the gruesome style of Raging Bull, problem being for real boxing fans they may find that frustrating.
Overall recommended for fans of boxing history for a mainly untold story.
Beirut (2018)
Has it's moments
Expected more in all honesty. Gives a very brief outline of an aspect of a very complicated conflict.
Solid performances from the cast and solid direction from Brad Anderson.
Middle of the road Middle Eastern thriller which just lacks cohesion and at does drag at certain points.
Get Hard (2015)
Dated formula with some funny gags
Mildly amusing comedy with Hart and Ferrell doubling up as an adequate double act. Just lacking in originality and repeating tried and tested one liners. I wish Ferrell would play some serious parts as the potential is there as opposed to Hart who seems to be a truly one trick pony who continuously serves up the same performances time after time. If nothing else to watch then it will kill two hours for you but easily forgettable and doubt it would make it onto your film of the year list. Actually prefer Steve Martins simplistic performance in Bringing Down The House which echoes themes here with the straight white guy playing an Ethnic stereotyped gangster. I'm sure there will be a sequel here, but hopefully with some depth to it.
