They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
Time Machine Back to WWI
The first 20+ minutes are black & white, as are the last 5 or 10 minutes, as one would expect for WWI footage. In between there is one hour of pristine color footage with sound recording and all. I'm pretty sure Jackson somehow got his hands on a time machine and brought modern equipment with him. Of course, since such devices are still classified, they had to concoct a cover story about "restoring" footage. The use of a cover story also sidesteps the bigger ethical issue of not having just created a compelling reason for Archduke Ferdinand to avoid traveling to the Balkans. Anyway, the film brings to life and brilliantly tells the soldiers' story of WWI.
Seinfeld (1989)
Start with Season 3 (if new to this show)
My all-time favorite comedy. About 3 years ago, I decided to re-watch the whole series in sequence. When I started out I was disappointed after the first few episodes and started thinking "This is the show I held in such high esteem? It sure hasn't aged well." Then I skipped to Season 3 and "Yes, this is the show I loved so much".
Larry & Jerry were new to TV writing at the beginning and it took them a little while to figure it out. They had it nailed by Season 3. Seasons 1 & 2 are worthwhile, but not up to the later (very high) standards.
The Thick of It (2005)
Dizzie!
I made through the 10 minute mark of the 1st episode and by then I was nearly sea sick. The "director" apparently wanted to add an "artistic touch" and could only come up with instructions to the cameraman to "jiggle that thing around as much as you can". Total idiot!
