Detectorists: Episode #2.6 (2015)
I hated to see it end
This show is the most heart-warming, sweet, and likable bit of fluff I've ever come across. The characters are off-beat and lovable. The scenery, cinematography, and music are fantastic.
Although there aren't a lot of laugh-out loud moments, I think that I had a smile on my face through all 12 episodes (I haven't found the Christmas special yet). Simon and Garfunkel have never been more villainously hilarious.
If you have enjoyed LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, TWIN PEAKS, GREEN ACRES, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, or THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, you owe it to yourself to check this out.
Its nice to think that there is a Mayberry across the pond.
Glad All Over: The Dave Clark Five and Beyond (2014)
disappointing self-promotion
I like the Dave Clark 5. Mike Smith had one of the best-ever rock-n-roll voices. Clark's drumming was distinctive and memorable.
GLAD ALL OVER is, regrettably, a disappointment. I can't help but feel that Clark(the producer of the piece) made this because he was worried about his place in music history.
The use of the same songs 'over and over and over again' made me anything but 'glad all over'. Could've used some of the more interesting non- hits(THE RED BALLOON?) instead of being so endlessly repetitive. Cutting Tom Hanks' Hall of Fame induction speech for the DC5 into reusable snippets made the speech seem boring and interminable.
I had always thought that the stage musical TIME sounded interesting, this made it appear hopelessly self-important and terribly dated; Besides which it really had nothing to do with the band.
Hopefully, at some point an independent filmmaker will do a definitive documentary on this excellent band.
Person of Interest: Deus Ex Machina (2014)
Wow!
I've always enjoyed this show, have seen it improve from season to season, and been increasingly intrigued by its characters and plot lines.
With this episode, I think it has become, far and away, the best SF show on television!
Imagine the Terminator storyline with Skynet as a benevolent(?)despot instead of a straight villain.
Loved the story, the acting, the surprises(Hirsh as a good guy? Decima runs Vigilance? Root and Shaw flirting with each other?!?!), and the music(Radiohead's BREATHE was perfect!).
Can't wait for next season!
