Rajkumar Kohli bringing together a huge star cast is very attracting though sometimes we question whether it's a complete waste of a star cast (JAANI DUSHMAN: EK ANOKHI KAHANI)or one of those average multi-starer movies that turns out to be good (NAGIN, JAANI DUSHMAN)

The film is just a copy of BAGHAVAT ('82) and DHARAM VEER ('77) both starring Dharmendra. IRONIC!!!

Pran has a son - Sunil Dutt. Ajit has a son - Raj Kiran. Rajmata (dont know the actress's name) has a son Kamal Hassan

Ajit and Madan Puri are the bad guys so they launch an attack on the palace. Raaj Kumar, Raza Murad and Pran do their best to save the prince aka Kamal Hassan. The sword fight is so fake and stupid in this scene but is better later

Rajmata believes her son to be dead so Pran gives his son Sunil Dutt to her. But uh-oh. Ajit swaps Sunil Dutt with Raj Kiran while Ajit goes onto adopt Sunil Dutt. Meanwhile Kamal Hassan is revealed to be alive and is adopted by Om Prakash and Raaj Kumar is portrayed as a bad guy/villain by Ajit

MANY YEARS LATER ...

Sunil Dutt has grown up to be a dashing Rajput who is continually mistreated by his supposed father Ajit. He has a sister Hema Malini who was probably born after the baby swap

Raj Kiran is the Prince and is the bad guy who is about to get married to Reena Roy but dun-dun-dun who does she fall in love with - Kamal Hassan!

Kamal has grown up to be a gypsy whom Sarika likes but he likes Reena Roy so LOVE TRIANGLE!

Dharmendra and Rajeev Anand are the sons of Pran who were born after the baby swap. Rajeev Anand likes Ranjeeta Kaur but she likes Sunil Dutt so 1 MORE LOVE TRIANGLE meanwhile Dharmendra gives his heart to Hema Malini

Raaj Kumar is the guy who runs some kind of sword-fighting / martial arts club in some abandoned cave. He has trained Kamal Hassan, finishes training Sunil Dutt and is about to train Dharmendra in whatever he teaches

I won't reveal the rest of the story because apparently the more engrossing the movie starts, the more lazy and boring it becomes. However it is kind of fun seeing Raaj Kumar, Kamal Hassan, Dharmendra and Sunil Dutt together

PERFORMANCES

Sunil Dutt- average but too old to be the leading man. At age 54 he tries to play some 30-35 guy. His age isn't that much visible and his role is basically an extension of Lakhan from JAANI DUSHMAN ('79)

Dharmendra- don't understand what he was doing and I don't think the movie would have much too much difference if he wasn't in the movie. However he is passable

Hema Malini- though she is 35/36 in this movie, she still looks kinda young. This movie is kinda like evidence that even at age 36, she can still live up to her Dream Girl status. Her role is like Dharmendra's and mainly appears to give brother-sister advice to Sunil Dutt or talk romantically to Dharmendra

Reena Roy- not given as much scope as she deserved. Due to the million sub plots and plots the movie tries to force in, she doesn't manage to do anything that remarkable. However she's beautiful and gives her best in all the scenes she gets

Kamal Hassan- manages to give 1 or 2 funny moments but because his character has been copied from Bhagawat ('82) he cannot impress the audience as he could have done. He is almost lost in the 2nd half which gives more scope to Dharmendra, Sunil Dutt and Raaj Kumar. Kamal was relatively new to Bollywood that time so I don't blame him being overshadowed by anyone

Ranjeeta- don't really like her as she isn't mass-appealing. Her role is small so I guess Rajkumar Kohli would just have to pick a low-key actress. She's is tolerable

Sarika- her character is copied from Bhagawat ('82) and in this movie, you will notice she has been sort of portrayed as a sex siren with her ridiculously small clothes which of course, didn't worked. As expected, she dies

Ajit- always a good character actor and shines with every role given

Pran- plays a role he has played in DHARAM VEER

Raj Kiran- intolerable. Watch the movie and you will realise it looks like he's saying the same dialogue over and over again

Raaj Kumar- you can easily tell he was born to play this role

Watch this if you like multi-starer movies (who doesn't) but the movie is enjoyable if you don't get confused who is whose son

The last song "Aagye Aagye" is great fun

Govinda is an extremely skilled painter who can paint how someone looked in the past or how they will look in the future He is called by Prem Chopra to paint how his daughter Ayesha Julka will look like because he has her childhood photo

But there is a catch Ayesha Julka is not Prem Chopra's daughter and Prem Chopra needs her photo so he can find her, make her marry his son Arjun and take over her entire estate Govinda instead paints his dead wife Madhoo

Direction and music are both average

Govinda excels Madhoo has nicely done her acting Ayesha Julka is good Prem Chopra is funny with his dialogue "Main Tumhari Zindagi Bana Doonga" Laxmikant Berde is annoying at times The rest are okay

The usual bollywood masala with long-lost families, romantic songs, heavy action and a little bit of comedy The IMDb summary is a little messed up so here's the story

Rehman lives happily with his wife Indrani Mukherjee and brother Dharmendra After Indrani Mukherjee is falsely implicated in being unfaithful, Rehman throws her out the house and she gives birth to Randhir Kapoor Dharmendra leaves the house after Rehman's new wife Sonia Sahni tries to kill him because she, her brother Jeevan and her first husband Dev Kumar (the guy who was blackmailing Indrani Mukherjee for a hidden motive) want Rehman's wealth Years later Dharmendra and Randhir Kapoor will resurface to save Rehman and his wealth from Sonia Sahni, Jeevan, Dev Kumar and their son Roopesh Kumar who has made to be Rehman's son

The film is good in parts The film starts off nicely then goes funny then a bit emotional and then when Dharmendra and Randhir Kapoor get themselves into Rehman's house as servants Hasiram and Khushiram

Dharmendra is emotional, funny and good in the action scenes which makes him good to be the CHACHA Randhir Kapoor is fat, funny and emotional as the BATIJA Hema Malini is good and her character is inspiring Yogita Bali is OK Jeevan is great Roopesh Kumar is good Dev Kumar is sinister Sonia Sahni is OK Anwar Hussian has a nice accent for saying sister Rehman is good as always Indrani Mukherjee is good

David Dhawan was known for his comedy films like AANKHEN (1993)

LOAFER was one of his more serious films It was tight, clichéd and filmy

The first half is the usual hero-heroine singing and dancing Though it is different and not like the usual college campus thing that was in the 90s

The second half took the film to a new level where Anil Kapoor becomes a politician His speech with Pramod Moutho was brilliant

Anil Kapoor excels in the role thanks to his tapori role Juhi Chawla is average Gulshan Grover is menacing Mukesh Rishi is OK Kulbacshan Kharbanda is alright Farida Jalal is OK Shakti Kapoor repeats his sidekick act

Amitabh Bachchan in a powerhouse performance This was the movie where Amitabh was critically injured while filming a fight scene with fellow co-star Puneet Issar Many Indians prayed in temples or offered to sacrifice their own limbs to save him In the climax of this movie, it had the same type of thing

Amitabh Bachchan excels and really looks like a true Muslim on screen Rishi Kapoor is OK in a supporting role Rati Agnihotri looks sweet Shoma Anand in OK Waheeda Rehman in her late forties plays Amitabh's mother though in real life she is six years older than him Suresh Oberoi, Kader Khan, Om Shivpuri plays the villains

Dharmendra and Jeetendra reunite after JAAN HATHELI PE (1987)

Dharmendra and Jeetendra play two lovable crooks Ajay and Vijay who meet Manohar (Avinash Wahadawan) in jail Manohar is going to be hanged for a crime he didn't commit

Ajay and Vijay discover that Manohar had been trapped by Dinesh Lal (Shakti Kapoor), his brother Dhani Lal (Prem Chopra), Dhani Lal's business partner Sohan Lal (Anupam Kher) and corrupt Inspector Imaandar (Kader Khan).

They plan to save Manohar by breaking his leg and sending him to hospital to delay his hanging punishment Ajay charms Dhani Lal's daughter Rani (Bhanu Priya) while Vijay becomes Dinesh Lal's bodyguard and later falls in love with Imaandarr's daughter Sheela (Anita Raj)

The film was enjoyable and i gave it a 8/10

Before Rajiv Rai's VISHWATMA (1992), this film came out in 1989

The two movies bear a lot of similarities with the cast, the same trio with a hatred for the villain (Amrish Puri being the villain in both the films), lavish locations and at least 1 chart buster song

The film is done-to-death

The film starts off quite nicely and has some over-the-top scenes but this was 80s masala The film gets more interesting when Sunny Deol is posted to Madhavpur and where he meets the savior Naseeruddin Shah Eventually Sunny Deol discovers his hatred for the terrorists and discovers that Jackie Shroff is part of them Or is he?

Sunny Deol makes an angry cop and this type of roles suit him Naseeruddin Shah is a pleasure to watch and does make a good innocent villager Jackie Shroff has a small role Amrish Puri is menacing and makes a balancing villain Anupam Kher is good Sharat Saxsena is usual

This was Amitabh Bachchan's comeback after INSANIYAT (1994)

Sadly this film bombed at the box office

The film has a storyline that may have worked in the 70s but this is the 90s which was full of college campus, justice and a revenge-seeking hero This film just had to release in the 90s

Amitabh and Pran had some memorable work like AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY, NASEEB, NASTIK, SHARAABI and the last to be JAADUGAR which was horrible and also crashed

Amitabh Bachchan can't get his emotions right Dimple Kapadia is alright Karisma Kapoor's voice sounds different Arbaaz Ali Khan cannot act Deepak Tijori is a loser Mukesh Rishi is typecast Ashish Vidyarthi is funny
