Speechless (2016)
couldn't get past first 5
The show felt really unbelievable. I know "cynical" is the new cool and style of shows but it was really contrived and disingenuous. I couldn't believe any of the characters. Everyone looked and felt like they were saying and acting the parts. I believe Cynic comes from a real place of pain and they all seemed like they had happy and easy lives. It felt Disney trying to be Amazon, HBO... The show also looked like it was shot in LA but they did a good job making everyone "white" east coast, middle-class, wonder bread and so boring. The whole show revolves around a family putting the special needs kid as the most important thing in their life, as well as the town accepting the disabled kid without much trials. I guess the problem starts with the concept because that in itself doesn't seem believable to me. Moving a whole family around with middle-school aged kids constantly, ruining their chance at going to college anda chance at a decent life for one special needs kid. Hmmm.
Love (2016)
Unbelievable
Started off promising than what happened? no way in hell a hot chick like that would ever go out with a guy like that. Ep 5 when all her x-boyfriends revisit, totally unbelievable. I see this chick in short, tight skirts in gentrified over-priced hip restaurant or coffee shop like "intelligencia" with a boyfriend that is a director or producer with money. Maybe she would also own a small dog... but I do not believe her as an alcoholic with boy problems. More like a shop-a-holic with self-entitlement problems like bad nail polish color? Am I off? And is she really supposed to be 40 in the show??? Really? I had so much hope. I love LA location since I am an Angeleno. At least they have Bobby Lee and some ethnicity here but this is definitely not LA. Main characters in LA does not revolve around white people unless they are in the business of Hollywood which means they are most likely from the east coast or middle America... when is Hollywood going to understand that? Most LA natives are non-white and if they are they have more than one non-white friends and significant others. This film started in LA and headed towards the east coast... :(

Talk about BORING! And NOT SO FEMINIST!
WARNING!!!! MAY CONTAIN SPOILER!!!
I see all these reviews praising what a great feminist film this is and so I watched it (or tried to watch it). My god! And I'm not religious. Thank god for the fast forward button. Firstly, what an insult to all stay at home moms. This film makes our daily chores seem boring, unimportant and mostly painful. Jeanne Dielman was obviously a mentally insane woman that was not happy. This film, if you could call it that, is more like an experimental art projection that should've been no longer than 30 minutes. Who cares if the crew were woman on this film? The message certainly isn't feminist or empowering to women. I wanted to shoot myself after an hour watching this. Is this really the life of a housewife? No joy at all? And also these were the times when women could be a housewife and it was okay. Not like current times when housewives are looked down upon and we are expected to do all this and bring home a paycheck! I think Jeanne had it pretty easy. In current times, we would be doing all these household chores and wouldn't have time to sit down waiting for our potato to cook. We would have to be multi-tasking. I say the lead character was just ungrateful for what she had. Also, she was a PROSTITUTE! Is that really feminist? To be prostituting yourself instead of getting a J-O-B at something that betters you as a person. Also, her kid looked too old and was too old to be having her shoes polished by her mom and everything done by her. Did she really have to do everything for him? Lastly, Jeanne was too pretty and attractive to not have bunch of dirty French men chasing her where ever she was. Not realistic! And it seems they were going for realism. Bottom line, this film is out-dated. Been there, done that and not impressive. It easy to shoot the boring lives of daily life and hard to actually entertain and have a story.
