Honey (2003)
Nothing Spectacular but Fun
20 July 2004
Honey was nothing spectacular but it was still really good. It's about a dance choreographer named Honey Daniels (Jessica Alba) who dreams of taking her talent and passion mainstream...to choreograph for celebrities. She finally gets her big break but her agent turns out to be a sleaze ball. Then she decides she wants a dance studio in the ghetto for underprivileged kids like the ones she used to teach at the centre and that she had come to love. She also falls in love with some guy, sorry that's pretty vague but I've only seen the movie once and I can't remember the character's name or the actor's. It's a great movie for any dance lovers. My favourite part was the big fundraiser dance at the end, I love the "I Believe" song. Anyways, the movie is pretty good. Maybe not as good as I expected it to be but still worth your while. 7/10

Predictable but Cute and Fun
20 July 2004
This movie isn't any epic masterpiece or anything but it's fun, low key and cute. Drew Barrymore plays a nerdy copy editor named Josie who is sent back to high school for her first undercover story, her dream come true. The movie follows her as she makes her way into the popular group and falls in love with her English teacher Mr. Coulson (Michael Vartan) (who likes her too but has to keep quiet because he thinks she's only 17). At the prom, the whole story comes out and Mr. Coulson is mad and blah blah blah. The ending is the best part so I won't tell you what happens. This used to be my favourite movie, I've gotten over it over time but I still really like it and would recommend it for a fun, sleep over type movie.

A refreshing look at friendship and your roots.
3 June 2004
I didn't expect the movie to be this good, to be quite honest, but it definitely impressed me. Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon make a good team as Suzette and Lavinia. Suzette and Lavinia were known as the "Banger Sisters" when they were teenagers/early twenties (they were groupies). Suzette, who was just fired from her job as a bartender at the beginning of the movie, is still trying to live the groupie life while Lavinia moved to Arizona and has gone on to marry a rich man and have 2 kids. She is basically the "perfect housewife". Suzette decides to visit Lavinia after she's fired and on the way meets a bitter, obsessive-compulsive man named Harry (Geoffrey Rush...I did a double take the second time I saw this movie...after I saw Pirates of the Caribbean...I couldn't believe it was the same man! He had gone from one extreme to the other! In POTC he was a dirty, rotting, crude pirate while in the Banger Sisters he was this immaculate, obsessively clean, almost virginal man!). Well the initial visit with Suzette and Lavinia doesn't go over too well but Lavinia comes back the next day to apologize to Suzette (Lavinia was a tad rude the day before). The movie's about the two women revisiting their past and rekindling their friendship. I like the storyline, it wasn't an overdone one. It wasn't your typical chick flick. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. 8/10.

Moulin Rouge! (2001)
A colourful masterpiece, will be remembered forever.
3 June 2004
I didn't see this movie until about 2 years after it came out...I couldn't believe what I had been missing! While the starting of this movie is a bit "odd", once you get into it it's a colourful, musical, fun filled ride! Ewan McGregor plays an English immigrant writer named Christian. One day while writing, a midget named Toulouse and an unconscious Argentinean fall through his roof. Before you even have time to think Christian's hired to write a play that Toulouse (John Leguizamo) and the Argentinean will be in. First, though, Christian has to be approved by the beautiful courtesan, Satine (Nicole Kidman) (who works at the moulin rouge) and her production partner, Harold Zidler (Jim Broadbent) who will be starring in the play. Well Christian and Satine end up falling in love but it's forbidden because Satine is supposed to be the Duke's (Richard Roxburgh) (who is paying to turn the Moulin Rouge into a theatre) "girl" exclusively. When Harold finds out that Christian and Satine are together he warns her to stay away from him. They don't listen and the Duke ends up finding out about them and threatens to kill Christian if he doesn't leave. All the while, Satine is dying from tuberculosis (unbeknownst to Christian and herself). When Harold tells Satine that the Duke will kill Christian if he doesn't leave, Satine and Christian plan on running away together. That plan is smashed when Harold informs Satine that she is dying. She is forced to push Christian away (though she doesn't tell him why, she just says she doesn't love him and that the Duke has more to offer). Christian breaks down and returns to the Moulin Rouge during the first showing of Spectacular Spectacular (the play he wrote). I've already told you enough so I won't tell you the ending (it's the best and most suspenseful part of the entire movie). It's a definite must see though, the story is perfectly put together and captures your attention right from the first 2 seconds of the movie...and the music and costumes are out of this world (I have both of the soundtracks, I'm addicted!). Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor do an amazing job ( I never knew they could sing either!). I wasn't a big fan of "musicals" before but Moulin Rouge converted me! You're missing out on A LOT if you don't see this movie!

Sleepy Hollow (1999)
A beautiful retelling of the famous legend.
3 June 2004
This is a brilliant retelling of the famous legend, The Headless Horseman/SLeepy Hollow & The Headless Horseman. Johnny Depp does a wonderful job playing the role of Constable Ichabod Crane who is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the strange beheadings going on in the tiny town. He doesn`t believe in ghosts or spirits and is determined to prove that the killer is indeed human. Along the way he falls in love with one of the more powerful residents, the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), who is a witch. Once he fights a battle against the Headless Horseman, and finally believes, it is up to him (with the help of Katrina) to stop the murderer. The acting was incredible and the plot was good, I liked that it kept all aspects of the legend alive but was still fresh and enjoyable. A definate must see. 8/10.

Home Fries (1998)
A huge letdown...big disappointment.
3 June 2004
There`s two words to describe this movie: weird and boring. Drew Barrymore is one of my favourite actresses, and I love Luke Wilson, but they both REALLY let me down in this movie. The families are completely messed up, the story line is strange (and dull) from the very beginning. I regret buying the movie (it was on sale, what can I say? Mindya, now I know WHY it was on sale). The movie is about killing family members, infidelity, psychoticness (if that`s even a word!)...it`s just very strange. Plus I lost my interest A LOT during this movie. The critics said this was a "funny" movie, I thought it was completely ridiculous. Wow, I can`t believe two of my favourite actors could make such a flop of a movie!

A beautiful, heart-wrenching classic.
3 June 2004
Edward Scissorhands is a true classic. It had me bawling by the end. The story is about a man named Edward who is man-made by an old inventor. The inventor dies before he completes Edward so Edward is left with scissors as hands. He lives alone in the inventor`s old castle on top of a hill until such time as a friendly avon lady named Peggy comes along and decides to take him home with her. He falls in love with Peggy`s daughter, is wooed by a neighbourhood resident (but she cries rape after Edward refuses to have sex with her...take note: this is not a dirty film AT ALL! It`s done very tastefully.) and ultimately is run out of the town because of some mistakes he made (most of them without even realizing it). It`s a tale of a true outcast trying to make it in the real world under some very unusual circumstances. Johnny Depp, once again, does a brilliant job. He really doesn`t say much in the movie, and what he does is usually one word comments, but every thought and emotion is shown through actions and facial expression, Johnny`s forte. The movie is a romantic drama, highly underrated, and very exquisite. I love this movie and I think if you give it a chance, you will too.

Benny & Joon (1993)
The best romantic comedy I`ve ever seen!
26 April 2004
Ok, first of all, if you don`t like romantic comedies, you won`t like Benny and Joon. This isn`t the type of movie you`d see with your boyfriend because it isn`t an action movie. Personally, Benny & Joon is my favourite Johnny Depp movie(Pirates of the Caribbean is my second). He`s wonderful as Sam...even when he`s not talking you can tell what he`s feeling and thinking through his actions. He`s adorable!!! The movie is about a mentally ill woman named Joon who lives with her overprotective brother, Benny. One night Joon decides to play poker with a couple of Benny`s friends (without Benny around). One guy bets his cousin (Sam, Johnny`s character) because he can`t stand him and Joon loses and is obligated to bring Sam home. They end up falling in love and the rest is history. It`s such a cute story and is not slow at all, I couldn`t keep my eyes off of the screen! Mary Stuart Masterson and Aidan Quinn do an incredible job but once again, Johnny Depp steals the show...I can not state enough how incredible he is. So if you like romantic comedies you`ll absolutely adore this one. And Johnny just makes it even better. My favourite part is the bun dance, the grilled cheese sandwiches, the mashed potatoes and `swinging by the window`. See the movie and you`ll understand. I give it 10/10

Secret Window (2004)
Not scary but definately good
22 April 2004
Don't expect to go to Secret Window and have the crap scared out of you. While the movie isn't scary, it's suspenseful, at times funny and all around well-written. Johnny Depp is an incredible actor and once again he's put out another brilliant movie. While the ending seemed abrupt it was well written. There's been lots of controversy over this movie. I think it's the type of film that you either hate or love. I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan so that made the film all the better but I truly think it was an awesome movie.

One of my favourite movies
22 April 2004
I am the type of person who hates action movies so for me to tell you that this movie rocked is a big deal. It might help that I'm the biggest Johnny Depp fan though. Don't be fooled by the Disney name...it's not the same old sugary crap you expect from Disney (even though that's what's to be expected as Disney is usually geared towards children). It's got a great story and the acting is brilliant. I'm not a big Kiera Knightly fan but I think she did a good job in the film. There is alot of action so if you're into that kind of stuff then you'll love this film. I think what I liked best about this film, though, (aside from Johnny Depp) is that there's a romance story laced inside of the crude world of piracy. Orlando and Kiera's characters are in a sort of forbidden relationship and they fight for eachother through the whole movie. Johnny Depp makes you laugh, Geoffrey Rush disgusts you (good actor, gross character), and Orlando and Kiera make you sigh in jealousy. Great movie for dates because you've got the love story and the action flick all in one. I'm not gonna tell you the story, just see the movie, you won't be disappointed.
