Took 13 years to watch finally - my experience not a review.
26 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Watching a movie is an event to me, specifically if it is from my favorite directors. Tomorrow is holiday for Thanksgiving so tonight we started to watch. We means my wife and my 7-year-old daughter. When I saw Ruskin Bond at the starting credit, my interest and expectation grew much higher.

What a movie, I cannot praise enough to this one. Initially I thought it would be a kid movie but it is not at all a kid movie. Many times it's too subtle to understand for a kid. It is a story where kids are involved, specially two kids one is Biniya - 9 year old real charm second is Nandu uncle who has hidden innocence, desire of a kids who loves to watch rainbow, urge to possess a binocular even if for few days, or a Japanese umbrella.

I had to retell the whole story to my daughter to a simplified version. But I could not able to explain why Nandu uncle took all pain intentionally for Rajaram (the helping hand) who was not related to him or had much emotional attachment to him. Also the textile dyer could have told about Rajaram who was behind all. Or Nandu uncle actually did?.

So I looked up for the book in local library and found it is available. So day after tomorrow I am going to borrow the book to find out what actually happened? I will add after I read the book.

Masterpiece.
24 May 2019
I remember my childhood days, reading headlines only and flipping quickly to sports pages. But those headlines creates an overview in your head, kind of time lapse shots accumulating in your brain. And later, any knowledge when you come across and has a link to one of your piled up memories, you think over it, reshuffle, rebuild your memories - putting towards more complete shape.

My experiences are the things put in chronologically. 1. Living in a communist environment in West Bengal 2. Soccer world cup, Italia '90, and I was supporting West Germany then. 3. USSR to Russia 4. Unification of Germany 5. In the morning time, Bangladesh used to telecast CNN, I always used watch CNN before heading to school. The fall of Berlin Wall became permanent my memory. 6. Oskar Schindler + Internet = More detail knowledge on Hitler, World War 2, Separation of Germany.. 7. Came to US, and one of my manager shared his story guarding the Wall from West Germany.

And then found this gem in a local library. Watched it, it was like transformation of news information to first hand experience of impact on society. I am from different society, culture and thousand miles apart, but honestly I could relate this movie. It is funny, moving at the same time it is kind of human documentary to me. I always recommend this masterpiece.

Under-appreciated modern foreign language film
19 January 2015
Those who loved Kaminey, this one is the next level. Those who are fan of Tarantino, this one is must watch. Those who watched City of God, and is looking for good Brazilian movie, this is for you. Those who loves action packed, modern age movie, you'd better not miss this one Those who is looking for world-movies which are under-appreciated but is a potentially great work, you may consider this one. 1. The puzzle like story development, which has been neatly woven and will lead you to more and more clarity towards the ending of the movie. 2. Innovative application of excellent visual effect (reminds me Funky Pawa by Maati Baani, though the movie is earlier work.) 3. Unexpected twist and the graphic explanation for that.

I must thank denofgeek dot com for the suggestion - "25 under-appreciated modern foreign language films".
