The Shell Seekers (2006– )
8/10
Classic novel and a beautifully handled screenplay
6 June 2022
"The Shellseekers" has it all! Aging protagonist played by Redgrave tells the story of the daughter of an artist who lives to find herself late in life with 3 children, two of which are mainly greedy brats. The third however brings a young girl in need of care to her mother and we learn the story of the past through their relationship.

It's slower paced, Masterpiece Theater style retelling, so it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Watch it for the scenery if nothing else. I enjoyed it for its gentleness and warm themes.

Superb blend of humor and beautiful romance

Rostand would love this production of his famous play! The chemistry between Dinklage and the other cast members is marvelous!

The setting, lighting, and costuming is a visual feast. Watch and enjoy!

This romance is a perfect film to watch with someone you love. Rosemary and Anthony are a couple you can root for. Interesting supporting cast and a gorgeous setting in Ireland make it well worth the watching!!

Emma. (2020)

A delightful remix of a great story
29 February 2020
Went to see Emma this evening anticipating a novel spin on a beloved story. I got what I came for and then some. A remake of any well loved classic is difficult to pull off but this version was a winner. Bill Nighy was a delightful father to this new Emma- his antics made for a much more light-hearted tone in the Woodhouse home. Also delightful to see Chummy (Miranda Hart) onscreen again in her role as Miss Bates. She played her with zest and made us like her in spite of ourselves. In terms of costumes and settings- a gorgeous film. I could have done without the Red Capes ala Handmaid's Tale (!!?) and a certain nosebleed moment (why???) but all in all a great time in the theater. Loved the soundtrack mix. May actually track it down to purchase it!

The Best Things Happen While you're Dancing
19 January 2020
In true Jane Austrn style- the dance scene in this episode is reason enough to watch it. Kudos to the choreographer who fashioned the dance of Sidney and Charlotte. It was perfect for heightening the tension and build the emotions between the characters. The setting was magical as well. Highlight that I will watch again!

Take heart this is NOT the end
19 January 2020
I am going out on a limb here - but am willing to bet this is NOT the end! There is too much plot and too many character arcs left hanging for it to be over. We have much more to come (think Poldark my friends!) I will grant that they stopped in a horribly perfect spot for every one of us Austen romantics- but what a delicious wait we will have. Can't wait for season two; only hope it's not too far off!!!!
