Absolutely stunning!

I'm at a complete loss for words to describe this movie. I have been a monstrously huge fan of everything Godzilla since I was just six years old and I have seen various takes on The King of the Monsters. But this movie in my opinion tops almost all of them. This film is truly a masterpiece and the director clearly knows and stays true to the franchise.

The imagery is absolutely stunning. The creatures and their designs are all absolutely beautiful, and the film score is simply gorgeous. This is a film that no Godzilla fan or any lover of monster movies will want to miss. Bravo Michael Dougherty!

Not for everyone but not without its own charm

When I started watching this film I had certain hopes for it that it sadly didn't really live up to. I loved the first Monsterland quite a bit. What won me over with the first one was the creativity behind the way the stories were told. The setting for it revolves around a man watching monster movies (the short stories being told) while the rest of the world around him was falling apart due to a monster invasion. From that point on I was hooked and knew I was in for a treat. I guess I was kinda hoping for something similar with this but such wasn't the case, just a frog leap from story to story which in itself isn't bad but just felt a little too in the norm for me.

As for the stories themselves they also felt like kind of a big step in a different direction than I was expecting. The first Monsterland for the most part told stories of monsters that were different and unique whereas this movie's longest stories stuck to things that were a bit cliche like vampires and werewolves. There were stories that I did enjoy like Wormbug & Brac Face. But the others felt more like they were catered more to an audience that would be into more of a dark horror setting.

Overall I feel like this anthology film has some fun parts to it for monster fans but it certainly isn't for everybody. If you like monsters I recommend seeing this at least once to see what you might think of it. It wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for but I am still glad I gave it a shot.

a fun psycho love story
23 September 2016
This movie was a thoroughly enjoyable one for me. What I liked most about it was that it broke away from the stereotypical psychopath slashing and hacking at horny teenagers in the middle of the woods, not that I don't enjoy that sort of thing. This story actually focuses on the point of view of the psychopaths themselves and why they do what they do, which I thought was a nice change of pace.

Overall I feel like this movie deserves some proper recognition. It doesn't carry the dark atmosphere of most horror movies but is still a fun well thought through movie if you are a fan of psycho themed horror films.

Monster Fun.

This movie was a thoroughly enjoyable roller coaster ride for a monster fan such as myself. I haven't enjoyed a film this much since I was a child growing up on classic monster films. I feel it to be a film worthy of recognition in the horror/monster anthology genre.

Now I will say that a lot of what lies within this film may not be for everyone, especially the squeamish. The violence is graphic & even the overall plot of some of the stories may be considered disturbing to some. In my opinion these attributes were part of the charm, but proceed with caution especially with kids around.

Yet if you enjoy a good monster flick, whether horrific & terrifying, or campy & silly, then this film should do justice for you, as there is no shortage of surprises in this film. I loved it enough not mind returning to Monsterland (cough-sequel?!)
