One of the best road trip ever done...
18 October 2008
This movie is based on the TV series/documentaries called "J'irai dormir chez vous" (I will sleep at your home)in which Antoine de Maximy is traveling around the world, with the aim to meet people and discover their way of life, and perhaps spend the night in their home.

This time, Antoine de Maximy is traveling the USA during three months, from the east coast to the west coast, meeting a bunch of fantastic people, from various horizons. The result is a very brilliant kind of road trip, often humorous and sometimes very moving. We are in front of a depiction of the United States trough the eyes of a wanderer meeting all sorts of Americans (I don't want to spoil anything, but believe me there are crazy moments - Charlie and his cat !). What makes this kind of documentary so efficient is the way the trip is done : The director is alone, with simply 3 cameras with him and nothing is planned. As a result, it is more an kind of direct experience of the true nature of human being in itself than a documentary about it.

To my mind, and to a certain extend, more than being worth watching for spending a great time with the very friendly Antoine, this documentary is a real portrait of a picturesque America.

I had the privilege to see this movie at a preview in Nancy (France), with a debate with the director himself, Antoine de Maximy, and I must say this guy is really awesome and is as friendly in real life than in his movies. If, like me, you enjoyed the TV shows, you will love the movie. If you never saw the TV shows, you should really go watch "J'Irai dormir à Hollywood" and have the chance to experience a real outstanding new kind of social and cultural documentary.

Welcome to Southern France !
23 May 2006
Let me be your guide to the deepest rural town in France... Let's cross the country to go to the extreme south... Espigoule !

Let me introduce you the poet of the village ( that nobody listen to... ), who is not really a poet but who is a part of what we call in France "La France Profonde"... Let me show you the anarchist painter of Espigoule, who is a blasphematory one, a semi-devil who live in corruption and vice... at least it is what he is saying... Come in, my American friend, that i can introduce you to the illuminated sculptor of the town... Please, have a drink in the center of influence of the town... the BAR !

You've probably understood what "Les 4 saisons d'Espigoule" is, a sort of documentary that describes a quiet village of southern France... we share the life of all the inhabitants of Espigoule... ... And of course it's very very very funny ! It is like the TV show "Strip Tease"...

So, don't be afraid, come and have a PASTIS at Espigoule !!!

How I became a psychopath...
31 March 2005
Watching this movie completely is almost a challenge...

I will not give any plot here ( see other comments ), but just speak about feelings. Feelings that can give us a movie like this... frightening, disgusting, repulsive, very, very, very, very, very strange ;)... But how great it is...it'a real u.f.o. It is an explosion of transformations between flesh and metal, meat and silver... metal replaces bones, blood, flesh, everything...

Add to that... This movie is a masterpiece of film making, not a single shot is normal.

So, if poor everyday cinema bores you and you want something original... Take a look at Tsukamoto's Filmography ! Gemini is also a must !

PS: it is my first review on IMDb ! :) not very pertinent but i'm proud of it ;) Others will be better, I promise...
