Oscar worthy
3 November 2018
I'm going to start this review by saying: ignore the critics, they obviously didn't see the same movie as the rest of us. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a masterpiece, both the song and the movie. The song wasn't appreciated back in the day, but it's considered one of the best songs in the world today. This also might be the case with the movie. Maybe critics don't appreciate it now, but in 20 years or so, this movie is going to be considered a timeless classic, and I'm sure they will regret it, just as they did with the song.

My personal opinion is that the movie should be nominated for an Oscar and it should also win. Rami Malek was just mesmerizing as Freddie Mercury. As I was watching the movie, there were moments when I just forgot it was an actor and not the real Freddie. And not because of his looks, even though the makeup department did a really great job, but Rami managed to capture Freddie's essence, his intoxicating energy and complex persona. He really made the role of Freddie Mercury his own.

Also, I really liked that they didn't transform the movie into those sappy, dramatic and exaggerated biographical movies. Well, it's a biographical movie, obviously, but they kept it respectful and focused more on Freddie as the great performer and entertainer that he was.

They integrated all the important parts of his life, just in the right amount. I loved the optimism of the movie, it makes you wanna follow your dreams and not care about anyone's opinion. Brilliant!

The Choice (I) (2016)

Cringe worthy movie (Spoiler altert!)
27 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
One of the worst Sparksian film adaptations. I watched it with no expectations and it still let me down. I did not read the book either. I was in the mood for a romantic drama and believe me, I have seen a lot of these films. I have seen almost every Nicholas Sparks films. So, it begins. The same overused type of guy from almost every romantic drama film: tall, handsome, smart, rich, charming, never been in love (until now), player and of course, single. The girl: obviously hot, pretty, smart, playing hard to get, but irresistible. In the beginning they do not like each other, but eventually they fall truly, madly, deeply in love. The plot was extremely cheesy, but I expected that, so it did not really bother me that much. What really bothered me was the awkward acting and cringe-worthy lines. I have no idea how those actors managed to keep a straight face while delivering such awful lines. I caught myself blushing and feeling embarrassed at some point. And do not even get me started on those puppies! I almost felt offended! Did they really think the audience was so stupid? I mean, what normal person would believe that a few minutes old dogs are so big? They had their eyes open and they were newborns. Really?! And they looked like chihuahuas, even though the mother was a big dog (a Labrador or a Golden Retriever, cannot remember exactly). Oh, and the lizard scene! It was so obvious the lizard was a plastic one, like those reptile toys. They do not even try! It was a waste of time!

Not very sinister (A little spoiler alert)
10 October 2015
I am not a fan of the Horror genre, because I take the films very seriously and I end up pointing out all of the mistakes and what they would have done better. I watched this film only because my friend asked me to. I didn't have any expectations and I still hated it.

Basically, some diabolic medieval spirit who looks like a member of Slipknot, makes children kill their families. Ethan Hawke plays a Stephen King-esque author, who wants to resolve the mystery around the crimes, hoping that he will write a bestseller horror novel. This is the only interesting part.

More on the matter, the action is incredibly slow, nothing spectacular really happens, besides some random appearances of cartoon-ish children ghosts. And of course, the classic dumb reactions of the horror films characters were habitual: like going alone in the dark to find out from where that strange sound came from.

And what's with the title? It's so meta and it feels like they didn't even try to come up with a cool one. Aren't horror films supposed to be sinister? Let's be thankful they didn't simply and solely name it "Horror".

Not the classic chick flick movie
16 April 2015
I wasn't expecting too much of this movie. I thought it's gonna be the same old chick flick, with a lot of clichés, but it wasn't. Well, partially it was, but somehow they managed to make it interesting and not that predictable. Of course, it has the classic high-school love, poor boy-rich girl, different lives, different paths and so on, but somehow they mixed up the things really fine. It has action, it has passionate love, great acting, interesting story, everything you are expecting from a love movie. I've seen all the movies based on Nicholas Sparks's novels, not because I'm a fan (I only read "The Notebook"), but everybody was talking about his novels and the films, so I was just curious and I end it up actually enjoying them. Great movies to watch with your friends at a sleepover.
