Scary!
9 January 2024
Poltergeist-type films always get under my skin. I saw the 2023 Sherwood film a while back, but it wasn't as scary as I hoped. However, this prequel creeped me out so much I had to stop watching it late at night. (Although many bumps and scares occurred during the day!) I returned to watch it the next afternoon and am still just as unsettled. The concept of the insurance investigator spying on the house and witnessing everything in real time was excellent. Then, when he got the first knocks at his door, I knew there'd be big trouble for him.

I'm still curious about the origins of the house. It sounds like a wheezy, angry old sod who doesn't want people living there.

Paul Logan and Zombies. I'm all in!
8 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As other reviewers said, this was a good effort. I thought the zombie makeup was very well done and creepy, as this gas not only revives the dead, it also distorts their features into something ghastly with bubbling boils. I appreciated that they weren't super fast (Looking at you "Dawn of the Dead" Remake) though their strength and agility were enhanced by the properties of the chemical. Some of them still stumbled around like a Romero film (My favorite kind.) Once the big handsome, rough and tough soldier traveled with and protected the cute little girl my heart leapt. I'm a sucker for father & daughter type themes so that raised my rating. I think the script could've used a little work here and there but overall it was fine.

The ending: WHHHYYY??? They dashed me to pieces with that and it finished so abruptly on a jump scare. I didn't see that coming. Dare I say, all that for nothing? Goodbye Europe ... and eventually the world.

Love You You (2011)

I Love …"Love you, you"
31 August 2013
This movie was one of the most adorable Rom-Coms I've ever seen in any language. The cast is great and very pretty to look at. I definitely want to look up more of their acting work. The scenery is just out of this world gorgeous, it makes you desire to be on that island and even get married. The story is sweet, romantic, and full of so many wonderful little twists by the end. They were deftly written into the script and flowed so naturally. It didn't leave you feeling that they were tacked on or impossible to occur. If you are a fan of Chinese films and want something light, cute, and fluffy, I highly recommend watching this one!

Intriguing family film
25 December 2012
I just purchased this off Amazon for an amazing price. I was really excited to see this because of Adam Baldwin and I was not disappointed with his role! I loved watching him out of his usual gruff and tough mode playing an enthusiastic and kind history teacher with slight PTSD from Vietnam and a sketchy past. He did a terrific job. Mid movie he gives an amazing speech to the class about Vietnam. The entire cast was good.

I felt the movie cut away from important scenes too fast, even though the clues to Liza's mystery become more and more obvious as the story progresses. It was like walking in on a scene where explanations were already given, so I had to rewind a few times to get the full brunt of them. And what I thought would be some very important turning points, were brushed right past.

The ending was a little disappointing. W/O a spoiler, I expected something more heartfelt, especially after the sweet and dramatic scene with actress Linsey Godfrey (Liza) and Adam. It could've ended right there. But I would've appreciated a certain conversation between Mr. Clemens and Liza, and a reunion of sorts, etc. - Not "Glee" or "High School Musical." But to be fair, music ties in to the characters.

All in all this was enjoyable. There should be more family films made in this vein. If you are looking for a clean film with good values then watch it. And definitely check it out if you're a fan of Adam Baldwin.

Lucan (1977–1978)

Lucan is great
12 September 2012
I'm a sucker for fugitive shows and this was terrific. It was a cross between the classic "The Fugitive" TV series and The Incredible Hulk. (Two of the best of the genre.) I loved that Lucan had animal/wolf like abilities and how his eyes glowed red-gold when he used them. He didn't quite have "super powers." And of course he's a true hero you can relate to - a sweet, easy-going and ruggedly handsome young man on a quest to find his real parents. Along the way he helps people.

Kevin Brophy was perfectly cast! Why he wasn't utilized more in Hollywood I simply don't know. He played Lucan with great earnestness and you truly believed in the character and wanted him to find his family.

This show should've lasted longer. It was smart and well-acted with a fascinating concept based on a true case of a wolf-boy in the woods.

Big wave Dave's needed a chance!
17 February 2012
I can't remember when this show aired, but it was only on six weeks before cancellation. Did the network just make it as filler for an empty time slot? I think it had a lot of potential. The premise was shaky, and the Hawaiian sets a little too phony, but the jokes were smart, funny, and the main cast absolutely stellar! The Ernest Hemingway riffs and theme throughout was an added touch. Too bad it didn't get at least one full season.

It was great to see the humorous side of wonderful actor David Morse. He is usually cast as a villain, simpleton, or cop. But I think he can truly play anything! (And that of course includes doctors and Pilots! I'd love to see him take another crack as a lead in a comedy series.

Radiant City (1996 TV Movie)
8/10
A comedic slice of nostalgia...
27 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Kirstie Alley and Clancy Brown radiate the best chemistry as bored housewife Gloria and her over-worked, underpaid mailman husband Al Goodman. It's 1957 Brooklyn, in a fictitious housing project known as Radiant City. The summer heat has everyone sweltering, gossiping, and hanging out and about in the projects. Gloria, however, feels desperate and trapped. Her teen daughter is running around with "bad" boy Johnny, her young son Stewie is making unusual friends and getting into mischief. Al works the night-shift and it's even affecting their love life.

When a handsome beatnik blows into town (Gil Bellows) it turns the project on its ear. He sets his sights on Gloria. All she wants is a way out of the doldrums and she devises a plan to make her dreams come true. When her secret's exposed thanks to Stewie's loose lips, the entire project knows and it won't fare well for the housing Authority or Al.

Gloria stands up for herself in many ways. She shows beatnik Bert what a real man is, "He gets up, no matter how tired he is, and goes to work for her!" In a romantic kiss reminiscent of fifties movies she gains back the waning love and respect from Al and all is resolved happily as the family ascends to their dream of suburbia.

Voyagers! (1982–1983)
10/10
A great show canceled too soon!
24 October 2006
Voyagers! was an excellent show that could have gone far and taken us on many historical adventures, it was appealing both to children and adults. The teaming of late actor Jon-Erik Hexum and Meeno Peluce was wonderful, they had great chemistry and timing in their roles as Voyagers Phineas Bogg and Jeffrey Jones. Most of the plot lines were so fun to watch and follow, you really did learn some interesting facts along the way. This show is a great addition to the time travel genre and it even inspired another excellent show, 'Quantum Leap.' Jon-Erik was strikingly handsome, funny and charming as the confused pirate/Voyager and Meeno Peluce had a rare natural talent that only children could have, the ability to be lovable and a pain all at once! I highly recommend finding and watching this show to any sci-fi/time travel buffs!

Death Be Not Proud (1975 TV Movie)
9/10
brought many tears to my eyes
7 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I have yet to read the book, but the compelling story of Johnny Gunther's struggle to maintain normalcy is something to take note of. Robby Benson gives a sweet and emotional performance as Johnny, a teenager suddenly inflicted with a malignant brain tumor. There were times i wanted to just yell at his parents for their callousness, but you do realize they did love him and tried every means possible to save his life. There could have been more emotion on their part, especially with such a charged and enthusiastic person Robby made the son Johnny, who is too often neglected by his father. However the cast did very well with the material they had I'm sure. This one is not to be missed. It may be out of print.

NBC Special Treat: Out of Time (1985)
Season 9, Episode 3

OUT OF TIME is Excellent!
4 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Back when TV portrayed kids as kids should be, this is a refreshing little TV movie about two children who are transported to the past to clear their great, great uncle's family name. An uncle who was alway branded 'the black sheep' of the family. From the get go our young heroine, Bridget, is endeared to the heirlooms and handsome picture of Otto Fromer. In their adventure they realize the rumors about their great great uncle were misconstrued, he was a hero! Bridget and her brother endanger their lives to protect Otto from capture and hanging, and hopefully a terrible fate lost at sea.

The script is solid and the story flows along, you wish it was more than 45 minutes! The performances are wonderful all around. If you are an Adam Baldwin fan, this is a real treat. His character Otto is very dashing and adorable. Amy Locane proved herself to be a real talent as a child actress. This little gem is so rare, it's out of print! It's worth it if you can find it on auction sites.

Avonlea: The Disappearance (1993)
Season 4, Episode 11
8/10
A case of Mistaken Identity...(Only slight spoilers)
20 March 2006
I am not overly familiar with 'Road to Avonlea' the series, only the three 'Anne of Green Gables Films'. I looked into this episode because of it's guest star Robby Benson.

I found the episode very amusing and enjoyed all the confusion by Avonlea's residents. It's in the spirit of screwball comedy that the fun starts when Handsome Jonathan Ravenhurst Blackwell (Heir to a big fortune) Goes missing from his snobby, pushy Aunt Edith. Suddenly Gerald Young appears, an expert appraiser and lover of antiques. He declines to give Sara Stanley an interview, then mass confusion ensues between other characters and their so-called precious heirlooms. Of course, foul play is suspected as well. Soon everyone is after 'Gerald Young' and the only person who can help him is Sara.

Along the way, Sara learns an important lesson from Gerald. He helps her to accept her place as an heiress, and everything is seemingly resolved with the quick wit of a Sherlock Holmes like Detective, 'Doyle E. Reichenbach' Or is it??

This episode was made very fun by the over the top performances of the talented Robby Benson as Jonathan and Diana Rigg as stuffy Aunt Edith. The episode ends with a promise that 'Gerald Young' may return...to take Sara to dinner.

The Outer Limits: Afterlife (1996)
Season 2, Episode 15
10/10
The Best Episode of the show I've seen...
3 February 2006
'AfterLife' is very gripping and exciting. It really shows how low and desperate our government could be when it comes to war. It expounds the message of how people really do fear what they don't understand. I won't give any spoilers, but when an experiment goes slightly awry, who are the real villains?

Clancy Brown is a complete stand-out and a very gifted actor, he was the best pick for the character of Linden Stiles. You can really sympathize and feel the pain of this soldier, accused of a heinous crime he didn't commit and forced to submit to an experiment 'for the good his country.' The rest of the cast give very powerful performances as well. A must see!

The Keyman (2001)
10/10
I am so impressed!...
17 May 2004
'The Keyman: Finding Redemption' is amazing!! I LOVED it!

The story was beautiful, exciting and heartbreaking. This has to be the BEST movie I've ever seen Adam Baldwin in..(Next to MY BODYGUARD, and RADIO FLIER, two great films) He is a highly talented actor, the entire cast was awesome.

Actually, this is one of the best films I've seen all year, maybe longer. That doesn't say much for all the 'big budget' directors and filmmakers. Sometimes they try too hard. I was so surprised, I didn't realize the depth of Keyman's psychological problems. I couldn't also help thinking, if you took the main characters, Keyman and Popeye and put them in a comedy, They would be hilarious. I'll admit that I cracked up laughing more than once. This is my type of movie. My complaint, it wasn't longer. Thank You Daniel for sharing your story.
