A Hero Unveils the Tapestry of Life: Asghar Farhadi's Cinematic Masterpiece of 2021
9 January 2024
Step into the mesmerizing realm of Iranian cinema, where villains are elusive shadows, and the true antagonist is the intricate dance of life itself. Asghar Farhadi, a maestro in capturing the essence of human stories, invites us on a riveting journey in "A Hero," a cinematic gem that might not be Farhadi's magnum opus but undeniably stands as one of the crowning achievements of 2021.

In this tale loosely woven from the fabric of reality, we encounter Rahim, a down-to-earth and light-hearted soul navigating the labyrinth of life post-imprisonment for a debt-related offense. Money, the elusive key to his freedom, takes center stage as Rahim discovers a bag with gold coins and chooses the noble path of returning it to its rightful owner. Little does he know that this virtuous act will unravel a series of events, each more labyrinthine and compelling than the last.

Immerse yourself in the unusual symphony of an Iranian film, where a background score becomes a rare but impactful narrator. As Rahim humbly seeks forgiveness from his debtor, the notes of the BGM delicately weave emotions, showcasing Asghar Farhadi's creative prowess. The director's brilliance sparkles throughout, especially in the climactic moments where his storytelling finesse takes center stage, leaving the audience spellbound.

"A Hero" may not be Farhadi's zenith, but it stands tall as a testament to his storytelling mastery. In a world where the line between right and wrong blurs, and morality dances on the razor's edge, this film beckons you into a labyrinth of choices, consequences, and the ever-present heartbeat of life's unpredictable symphony. Asghar Farhadi, with his artistic brilliance, invites us to ponder the complexities of existence in a cinematic experience that lingers, resonates, and leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

Joyland (2022)

One of the Best in 2022.
19 December 2023
Step into the enchanting world of 'Joyland,' a cinematic masterpiece directed by the talented debutant Saim Sadiq. This 2022 Pakistani film has earned accolades at prestigious international film festivals such as Cannes and the Toronto International Film Festival, capturing hearts and minds with its profound narrative.

Set against a backdrop of human relations, love, affection, and desire, 'Joyland' delicately explores the intricacies of life. What sets it apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate these complex themes without imposing, creating a harmonious and beautiful cinematic experience.

The casting is nothing short of extraordinary; each actor seamlessly embodies their character, leaving you feeling as though no other option could have been as perfect. The film not only tells a compelling story but immerses you in a world where every emotion is felt deeply.

For lovers of cinema, 'Joyland' is an absolute must-watch. Missing out would be a great loss. Don't let this cinematic gem slip through the cracks.

Twists....
21 November 2023
When we hear the name Sidney Lumet, the first thing that comes to our mind is the classic "12 Angry Men," which is considered one of the best films ever made. Similarly, there are numerous other films in his "must-watch" list. However, one film that often goes unnoticed but deserves attention is "Deathtrap" (1982). Starring Michael Caine and others, the film is rich with twists and turns, resembling a stage play with its tight plot. The brilliance of the director shines through, even without elaborate characters or locations, making it a comedy-crime thriller from the 80s that is truly worth watching.

Beautiful!

If someone were to ask about the story of some movies, we would ponder over it, because when the story is narrated, we might respond with "Oh, is that it?" Writing has the power to shape the characters in a way that, with the strength of words, a movie can captivate our minds. In the realm of more independent films, there lies the potential for a diverse exploration. In that vein, "Cha Cha Real Smooth," directed and starring Cooper Raiff, is one such film that adds an extra layer in its storytelling.

Dakota Johnson is a character that will remain in your heart. Need not to say more about the cast, just perfect, Vanessa Burghardt was amazing too.

Watch it Guys, very Good.

On his daughter's birthday, a man faces the challenge of meeting both his wife and daughter, who are estranged. Along his journey, he encounters obstacles that he must overcome. The wife bears the greater burden in this poignant tale. This picture, reminiscent of Michael Douglas's struggles, is something that should definitely be watched.

Along with Douglas, Robert Duvall also did an amazing job, in his usual manner.

The lead character was very powerful and very well directed by Joel Schumacher backed up by strong writings of Ebbe Roe Smith.

Considered to be one of the most favorite role of Douglas himself.

Don't get the wrong Impression; Surprisingly Fresh.
8 June 2023
The title, cast and poster give you the wrong impression about the movie. I thought this was one of those low quality quick made so called comedy movies that are made just for the sake of it. But, I was wrong, very wrong. From the beginning, this film is hilarious, so hilarious that keeps you engaged throughout the movie. The writing is so nice that it doesn't deviate and keeps you focused, the Direction really backed it up, strongly supported by the cast. Prasanth did an amazing job in the lead role, his lover character also equally caught up.

Being the cinematographer and director, Krishand took the privilege to break the conventional blocking and framing system, which I really liked.

Overall, very entertaining and refreshing movie.

Interesting.
7 June 2023
This is an interesting movie. Though it is supposed to be a sequel to the 2014 movie The Pirates, you can still enjoy without watching it, but, that film is fun to watch too, therefore consider it as a recommendation, if you have not seen it yet.

Coming back to the movie, as you can expect it's a fun filled adventure comedy, with a pinch of romance in it. Some films helps you to escape from the harsh realities of life, some people use films as a hiding place, I am one of them. This film can give you 2 hours hide from life, just like a journey.

Suggested for those Korean film lovers out there.

Awesome!
7 June 2023
2018, was an unforgettable year for the Keralites. This movie brings those terrific memories. Survival thrillers are very rare in our Industry, especially a large scale one. This movie was very well written and directed; Jude Anthany Joseph, well done, a very well prepared and carefully executed film, so far the best of his career. Carefully choose different slices of life affected by flood. There are some minor problems that can be ignored due to the overall perfection. Definitely this is a huge positive sign to other directors to experiment and execute new genre on a large scale in our small industry. Hats off.

Really Good.
23 February 2023
Very happy to see such an interesting movie in a very small framework. Very limited artists, single location, yet very smooth. Last quarter should have been better; felt totally incomplete and as if it was rushed to a conclusion.

Writing and Direction was the backbone of this film. It is very crucial how the story unfolds to the audience. Keeping the audience engaged is not an easy job.

Performance of the actors, like a cherry on the top, has added to the grip of the movie. Alencier proves that he is of the finest actors in the industry at the moment. Everyone else like Sunny Wayne, Ananya, Grace Antony, Pauly Valsan etc did wonders.

Freedom Fight (2022)

Awesome!
23 February 2023
It's an anthology ranging from a variety of tastes, from sweet, bold, bitter and disgusting stories. Some of them were extremely beautiful, like the story of Joju George, it was so cute, innocent, yet touches deep in the heart.

The story of Rajisha Vijayan was bold and uprising. Straight ought to the film's title. Well made as well.

The story of Srindaa, well made, very relevant to our society. It was very funny with some light moments and dialogues. Hope it can bring a change in our society.

The film Ration, I have no idea how can it justify the title. It was very predictable and had the every essence of a very common short film. Yet, not bad.

The last segment- I want to unsee it for ever.

Interesting, Intense... An Asghar Farhadi feel, little less, maybe....

The film may not be entertaining for everyone. It's simple from the outside, but, has a great impact within. Realistic making adds to the essence. Acting side is worth mentioning, Kunchakko has done a great job, he is choosing films wisely in recent times, excellent job. For Divya Prabha, this film is a great leap in her career, a way to prove and take herself to the next level of her acting career, she did a fair job. Cinematography was also amazing, blending to the film's realistic mood.

There are few negatives to point out, but, as a whole, it's a great movie.

Good Popcorn Click.

From Paris with Love is an action thriller where you can predict everything, still fun to watch. John Travolta is the show stealer, as we can guess. The film is fast, lot of thrills and actions. But, cannot be categorized into those perfect action films. It lacks some bits and pieces in writing and directing, especially they were too lazy to replace some of the cliche with more convincing and twisted plots. There is obvious Hollywood pretention of all Asians are terrorist, that's kind of funny these days.

The film totally changes as Travolta enters the screen and everything goes lighting fast.

Finally, It was released.
10 October 2022
The final film of the legendary Hollywood figure, Orson Welles, which was released years after his death. The film shoot was completed before his death, some parts were edited, but the post production work was not completed to due to financial burdens. The film itself narrates the story of an ageing Director who struggles to finish his final dream project. This is a pure experimental film, with impressive fast cuts and candid camera movements. Strictly not for everyone. If you expect the usual cinematic treatment, you may fail to enjoy this film. There is a film in the film, which is a kind of spoof.

A realistic investigation.
1 August 2022
If you expect a mass crime investigation thriller from Rajeev Ravi, then, this is not for you. As always, this film has a realistic touch. There are no gigantic twists and bombastic turns in the movie. Yet, a very decent thriller. Asif Ali has done a decent job after a long time, along with other actors who did their part to the best.

Impressive.
1 August 2022
Gundala is an impressive movie, not to be compared with the Super Hero movies of the Hollywood. Here, the Hero is given completely a human figure. Even the action sequences were executed in a very natural way. But, I wish if it was more thrilling and fast. I guess this is just a beginning and expecting sequels.

Swing Kids, set in a PoW camp, tell the story of a few prisoners who join the team of Tap Dancers organized by a man of color. The movie strongly questions how Idealism and other factors that divide human beings just for the political and financial exploitation of the powerful. A pretty good watch with some music, dance, comedy and drama.

Jigsaw Puzzle.
20 July 2022
The film makers are trying to convey that, this slow paced crime thriller is like a Jigsaw Puzzle. For the same reason, all the pieces were scattered infront of the audience. A usual person can easily guess what's coming, except for the grand twist at the end. As in recent Malayalam movies, there are a ton of hints given throughout the movie to misguide the viewers, as it is a cliche these days, sometimes can irritate the audience. If you love a slow paced crime thriller, this is your cup of tea.

Not a Superhero, just a fantasy teenage comedy.
19 July 2022
When you look back at the 80's, when Christopher Reeve was at his peak of fame as Superman, this film was released. The biggest problem with this film was lazy writing and making. Instead of making an epic Super hero movie, they spoiled it into a teenage silly story for kids. After three decades, we know how far we have moved forward in making super hero movies.

Not Good.
19 July 2022
So, this Resident Evil movie is set in the 90's, may be that's the reason it gave me a feeling of those scary movies of the 90's (actually this film fails to scare at all). This won't sell now. Film was a disappointment for the fans.

One of the Best Arabic Films.
19 July 2022
Clash is one of the best cinematic experiences you can get from Arab cinema. Directed by Mohamed Diab, he was able to deliver a powerful message that contains the political outlook and general human conditions. A very successful experimental cinema. It is interesting to observe that the camera never leaves the van throughout the film, it may be uncomfortable to claustrophobic viewers.

This is not a very impressive movie, but, watchable. When you watch today, there are so many plot holes you can list, in that case, the whole story of the movie will be in danger.
