A Raw Gemstone.
This is one of the best character study in Malayalam film industry in recent times. Its has all the elements on paper to make it a very interesting movie. The film keeps you engaging till the end. It is a brave attempt to try to tell a story in a different way.
Director Arun Kumar with "Ee Adutha Kaalath" in his credit does not disappoints. His involvement in the background study of various elements of the movie is very apparent and commendable. The background score is intriguing. It remains faithful to the theme of the movie. It adds to the mystic nature of certain progressing scenes. The cinematography is decent although could have been more crisp.
The only flaw in the whole project is the casting and the editing. Murali Gopy as an artist has a good taste,He is a writer and it is better if he does what he is good at. Swapping Fahadh Faasil and Murli Gopy might have been a better resource management judgment. Honey Rose is sweet and subtle, just perfect.perfect. Shyamaprasad is as it is mentioned in the film "Over Casual". The movie is too long, hence it fails to leave behind the impact it intends to.Many scenes could have been avoided. The purpose of the movie which drives the story moving forward keeps changing frequently which gets confusing as to why certain aspects of the story line is highlighted.
The Intention of the project is highly encourageble- To make a sharp physiological thriller. It succeeds in major portion of it, the editing and cast lets it down. This is a movie which is in the threshold of breaking away from the contemporary stereotype movies. Betting on Fahadh Faasil pays off yet again. It is refreshing to see the new breed of artists bring a fresh wind in the movie watching experience.
Salala Mobiles (2014)
A Movie solely relying on "One liners"
Dulquer Salman's film has always followed a certain pattern.A Muslim boy raised with lots of expectation, love.Which makes him feel the things given to him are for granted. Then there is the twist in the plot, which most often is being deported back to India, and then heroine enters. The rest of the film is about the journey of redemption of the boy to a MAN!, accompanied by few one liners by the sidekick best friend who is more "mallu" than Dulquer. This movie is no different except that the Muslim boy never goes abroad. Santhanam does a silly cameo of a "Computer genius" who changes the life of Afsal forever. The plot could have explored the situation in a much more imaginative way rather than filling the script with meaningless dragging sequences. The characters have no depth and no substantiating motives for the action portrayed in the movie hence you never feel for the characters. We feel they are doing it coz they are told to and are incapable of deciding for themselves.
Direction & Script : Is by debutant Sarath A Haridasan.Have to improve to leave a signature in the industry.
Performance : Its a young cast.Could do better.Not their best(I hope).
Music : Average
Cinematography :Average
Editing : Poor.
Dialogues : Poor
My Rehash : The debutant could have the opportunity given to him in a much more novel way.
Final Verdict : Watch it if you are a big fan of the cast or just want to kill some time.It is advised that in either case leave you brains out of it.
Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal (2013)
A baseless plot with forced acting and insulting comedy
When I finally got down to see the movie I checked the cast and the crew.Lal Jose-Dileep partnership usually brings something good. Here though the basic plot line is noble one-to ponder in to todays relationships which lacks depth, the execution was to every extend a weak one.there is not a moment where we feel for the character. The whole "issue" which starts the whole drama is so absurd and pointless that the whole movie we wonder-REALLY?? The comedy scenes in the movie are so unimaginative that the audience is expected to laugh at cartoon like steam blowing out of the nose and ears. The marketing of products is so deliberate that it is hard to imagine if Lal Jose did this for the money or he actually believed in the script, which is very low in imagination. The director who gave Classmates has never touched that sublime moment after that. Rima has done a fair job with what she was given.Dileep was just OK.Tini and ashok though a small part did what is expected of them.
Bottomline:-Don't watch the movie with the expectation that you can take away much from it.
