Candy (2021)
Interesting premise
The story is interesting. It will keep you engaged till the end. The acting performances are a bit loud, over the top and spoil the fun. After few initial episodes, it feels like show is running in fast forward mode. A slower, suspenseful execution would have been better.
Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Best Indian TV series to binge watch
The first episode of this thriller is awesome. It is so good, you would straight away go for the subscription button to watch the rest of the episodes. All the episodes will keep you hooked. I really loved it and watched all the episodes in one go. However, was a liitle disappointed by certain choices the makers have done in the final few episodes. Some of the things are not explained, which perhaps we will get to know in second season if there is one.
The show is really well shot. Asur in his kid version is menacing and intriguing.
NH10 (2015)
Brutal reality on the highway
NH10 is a scary movie. Five minutes into the movie and I could feel that nothing good is going to happen from here on. A young couple (Arjun and Meera)from Gurgaon find themselves getting into a lot of trouble because of a hard to believe stupidity of the husband. Arjun's ego is hurt and he wants to get back at 5-6 hostile and dangerous goons who are out on a Honor Killing mission. He actually follows them to a secluded place taking his beautiful wife along. Seriously dude, what were you thinking??
After this hard to digest scene, the movie gets into an edge of seat thriller mode. Every scene is full of tension. Meera can't find any help on the highway. Even the police are accomplice in the Honor Killing crimes. Meera's General Knowledge is a little weak as she tries to seek help from the Sarpanch of the village mentioning that she encountered an Honor Killing on the highway.
But, Meera is a fighter and she keeps surviving and escaping from her attackers.
Ultimately, Meera is able to kill all her attackers. Before killing the last baddie, Meera decides to savor the sweet moment by smoking first. At that moment, courtesy Censor Board, "Smoking Kills" message is shown on screen. So you're made to wonder who is getting killed. Fine example of how a warning message can ruin the impact of a strong scene.
There are symbols in the movie which showcase the urban-rural divide in India. Meera doesn't't take help from a group of Men in a Jeep because they speak a rural language. She doesn't wish to help the lady who is desperately seeking help. There are few more scenes in the movie which show this divide.
I was expecting more brutality in this film, but I guess they must have been brutally chopped off by the Censor Board.
