Bonanza: Caution: Easter Bunny Crossing (1970)
Funny episode that inspired 2 iconic movie scenes.
Hoss is hilarious dressed in a pink bunny suit. This was later revealed by Bob Clark to be his inspiration for the bunny suit scene in A Christmas Story.
Similarly, there's a scene where the bad guys roll a big round boulder down the hill that ends up chasing their bumbling accomplice down the hillside. In a 1987 interview Steven Spielberg said he loved watching Bonanza as a kid, and how he'd loved this episode, and how mixing comedy into a dramatic series was always a fascination of his. So sort of as a tribute, he put the famous rolling boulder scene in Indiana Jones, as he'd remembered how much fun it was seeing that in this episode of Bonanza.
The Final Countdown (1980)
Great movie except...
I'd read the book so I knew how it turns out. Like the book it's a fascinating story that keeps you engaged throughout. The movie has terrific flight scenes and it all seems so realistic.
But it's a lot like going on that first date with the pretty girl, getting all hot and heavy in the car, and then she says she needs to stop, and you take her home.
The story builds up to that anticipation to where we all wanted to see the modern planes take out the attacking Japanese planes, and to sink a bunch of their carriers. But alas, it was not to be. So when they headed back to the future it was all kind of frustrating.
But like that date, all and all it was a good time, you'd just have liked a more fulfilling climax, even though you knew at the start you weren't going to get one.
Christmas on Candy Cane Lane (2022)
Delightful: perfect Christmas Rom Com
This is the Christmas movie formula we all know and love. The main couple with their problems, the other couple with their comedic interactions, the grumpy person that adds the element of stress to the main character. Just lighthearted Christmas for fun at its best.
This plot is perfectly thin, you can guess how things turn out right from the start, but that's what Christmas movies are about. Like a blanket and a warm cup of hot chocolate they are meant to be warm and comfortable with just a hint of merriment.
The cast is all fun, and they look like they are having fun. Even the obligatory teenage girl is not obnoxious.
All in all, a nice way to spend an evening.
Benjamin Franklin (2022)
Typical Ken Burns "Sort of" History
Burns has made a name for himself by presenting lightly researched history programs with a left wing bias. This is no exception as he weaves real history with his typical "tsk" "tsk" views of things that don't fit his current woke culture.
Dallas: The Lesson (1978)
Includes public service message
A reminder to men to never have closed door meetings with women or girls, as well as the sobering reminder that assault charges are all too often faked.
Parks and Recreation: Soda Tax (2012)
It's Pop in Indiana
It was very hard to stay connected with this episode when throughout they kept referring to "soda" which is a word only used on the coasts.
That was completely distracting.
