hilarious
8 February 2022
My daughter and I watched this together and I haven't laughed so much in a long pandemic time. Everything is taken to the extreme - not a jar of wine bottle corks - a large bowl full and the bowl is not big enough. A great play on the movies it satires. There is scene after scene that is so funny - I did not know that being afraid of rain is actually a phobia. All the characters are played so well and you do not find out who the murderer is until the end. Well done!

best International movie/ not best movie
20 February 2020
Curiosity about this film - two families - one very rich and entitled and one very poor with little hope for the future. The poor family appear to be street smart and the rich just more entitled. Slowly the entire family become entwined with the rich based on lie after lie. As the story evolves it become certain that this will not end well - and because of the birthday party, unlike any I have ever seen on screen, that happens. The ending is tragic except for one member - I won't say who. The film is a tragedy on as many levels as there are in the home. The star of the film for me is the home of the rich - confusing writing of the film - one place states it was a set built for the film and another talks about the house as though it was not. I have to be very honest about this film - I would never watch it again. I strongly feel that it probably deserved the international film Oscar. But as for best movie Oscar - no.

Excellent
2 January 2020
Such a fun and good movie with an exceptional cast. There are standout moments for all the actors but this is an ensemble cast. The individual stories come out slowly, the gothic home has so much to see and I wish the camera would have stayed longer on some of the scenes. Each possible family member as a suspect is played so well - Don Johnson, Jamie lee Curtis, Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer - all are so good. The twists and turns come quick - the piano note by the detective - a good mystery. Like a game of clue - with many suspects.

Good II

Went to see this with my older granddaughter and we both loved it. A good story about sister love, friendships. The same characters- loved Olaf who flurries. Kristoff is so fun too. The animation of the cold and ice is so beautiful.

Renee is a 10, the movie a 9
6 October 2019
This is such a good performance by Renee Zellweger as Judy. Her last year was tragic - she had lost her children whom she loved with all her heart, broke and playing places that appreciated her but did not pay much. Flashbacks to the time while making The Wizard of Oz - not the best way of treating a young girl and if known now it would have not been allowed. She grew up without love and searched for it with her own children. An unknown cast (to me) and they are good - especially Jesse Buckley. A side note - I saw Judy in concert when I was 9 (1955) and I will never forget it - she sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow while sitting on the edge of the stage and wearing the hobo costume. Renee's lines before she sings it in the movie says so much and she does the song so much justice. I so hope Renee gets an oscar nomination - she deserves it.

They say biographies do not make good movies -WRONG
22 June 2019
Two years in a row - great movies about great musicians. This film is introduced so well and the telling by Elton John of how he got where is was in the different timeframes - well done. Also the music connections to what he was going through at the time - well done. Learned so much about his life - two uncaring and incapable of caring parents, but thank heaven for his grandmother since she was the only one in the house who encouraged him. Another movie about the hard time a gay person has when trying to be themselves. Yes it deserves the R rating and I am glad Elton Joh insisted that he had not led a PG-13 life. Stay for the credits - so worth it. Hope this gets the oscars it deserves.

Good afternoon flick
22 June 2019
I wanted to see this because of Emma Thompson and she is comedic great. Yes a lot of comparisons to the Prada movies but this is a good film. The writing is somewhat predictable but good. Fun to see another film where the women rule it - there is only one man who deserves a lot of attention and that is John Lithgow. He is in the background but his character is loved and loving. A show that proves that a hard-nosed woman can learn from those younger than her. I like the comedy portions but appreciated the more serious parts more. Good to see a film where the characters grown.

This generation
14 June 2019
I had heard that this was a really funny movie - there are many funny moments. But the movie is about the friendship between two friends who have been friends for many years and they just kept relating in the same ways years after year. They realize that they have not had fun in school and it is the day before graduation - so they decide to have fun. And in the course of it all they go to three very different parties and reality of what they have missed from each other and their classmates finally dawns on them. They really did not know their classmates. I like the fact that Amy and Molly wake up to their friendship and know it is valuable to both of them. The casting of Amy and Molly was perfect. Olivia Wilde first director adventure is good - not perfect but there is hope that she keeps doing it. Teens have a hard time these days and so many of those things were shown. I realize that the language is more prevalent now - but the use of f--- got to me and I would rather have not heard it so much.

Could have been better
25 March 2019
I was looking forward to this film as I remember the first Gloria that this director made (a movie from Chile). They are not equal even thought they are the same story. There are times when the film seems to waste time, you get the anxiety that Gloria is going through but it just seems to languish. She has a son with many of his own issues, a daughter who lives her own life and neither seem to have much of a connection to their mother - to the mothers frustration. For me the problem with this film is in the casting - the only good casted person is Julienne Moore and the support is lackluster. To be honest I only really liked the last five minutes of the film when the song Gloria was playing.

A year in the life of a maid
25 February 2019
The first half hour of this film I wondered why I was watching it - very slow film and the main character's face is lacking expressions most of the time. However days after I saw it I kept going back to the film and thinking about her life, the life of the family she worked for, the loss of her child, the timing of the events and tragedies. I feel that when I have seen a movie and weeks later I am still thinking about it - then it is a good film. I know that this took place in the 1970's and in some ways there are still things like this happening in some countries. My problem with it - the blandness of the main character - she so rarely showed any emotion. And that was probably due to the way it would have been - apparently the director based this film on a maid who cared for him growing up. At first I did not like the parents in the family she worked for and since then I have come to appreciate the mother and her struggles more. An interesting film - not my favorite of the year.

RBG Film
17 January 2019
I am having some problems with other reviews. This is not a documentary - it is a depiction of the case RBG presented to the court of appeals that presented the discrimination of the IRS law that prevented a man for getting a credit for caring for his mother. It was the start of RGB gender discrimination focus for all to be treat equally. A 2 hour film is not going to be able to present her life - watch the documentary which is so well done. This is one case, how it got to court while giving us the background of RBG life and how she got there. A newly married woman, her husband diagnosed with cancer and getting treatment while SHE goes to her AND his classes in law school. Advances to her struggle to get a job with a law firm because she is a woman and she consequently teaches. He supports her career all the way - this is the beginning of her fight for gender equality. I feel this is a good film and a good way for younger people to learn of some of the struggle that people have defended for US. I admired the presentation of her marriage - she had a husband who supported her all the way - she was so fortunate.

Impaired Queen
11 January 2019
Queen Anne - ill and quick tempered has given power over to her friend Lady Sarah. She is making the decisions about war and running the country. Enter Abigail to the household and the competition begins between the two. Interesting glimpse into the activities of the queen household - not the upstairs/downstairs king. Power struggles. Good acting, beautiful costumes, 17 rabbits and a lot of back biting. Guess how it comes ends!??!

Good picture of the south in the 60's
11 January 2019
Two men from vastly different backgrounds come together as a pianist needs a driver for a tour of the south in the 60's. Constantly at differences and constantly learning from each other - they ended up good friends in real life. A really good cast portraying complicated people and presenting the south of the 60's ( not belying the fact that some of this remains). A good film of the story of two men - and not seen in any movies. I really enjoyed it. M. Ali so deserved the Golden Globe award for best supporting actor. Loved the growth of both men.

Fun movie
7 January 2019
Ok I started watching this movie on a cruise ship - we were outside, it was windy and cold, so I only watched half of the movie. Then on the flight home I watched the second part - so actually I saw the whole movie. It is fun - the mother becomes the main character and hero, the father is the house husband with the three kids while discovering the powers of the baby. Comical, fun and entertaining - good vs. evil and of course you know the winner.

grandkids surprised
7 January 2019
My grandchildren were surprised I wanted to see this picture - I had seen a preview and that piqued my interest. Having never seen a Transformer movie I wasn't sure - but went. I really liked this movie with other reasons than the animation. The main character is a girl who is struggling with the death of her father, and more so since the rest of her family has apparently gone on with their lives. This representation of the events that lead to her feelings are well presented. Throw in the other aspects of the Transformer dealing with how he will protect the earth - well done.

No perfect but SO entertaining.
5 November 2018
Like being at a rock concert with hundreds of people. So entertaining with so much of the backdrop story - and that is not all perfect or timely - but well done.. Fun to see the work that went into the creating of such good music. I think all the people in the theater were tapping their feet and silently singing along. A very entertaining film and with an excellent cast - do not expect the timing in the last half to be totally accurate - and do not care about it either. This is not a documentary and just enjoy the music, the reality of what it must be like to travel in a rock band. You get to see the humaness of the bank too. I will see this more than once - a great way to spend 2+ hours.

Not a fast paced movie
29 October 2018
First of all I love Robert Redford, the actor who has given me much joy in the theater over the years. This almost true story is a joy to watch. It is slow - just as I think Forrest Tucker would have been in his later years - slow and paced as this movie is. The story unfolds with a looking back to his history with his craft. Robert Redford found a good movie and I hope it is not the last - but if it is, it was so much fun to look at his face and watch the fun I think he had making this film. Cissy Spacek, Tom Waits, Casey Affleck, Danny Glover were all fun to watch as was the work the gang did to scout out the banks, and the work the detective did to catch him. The scene in the restaurant is so much fun to watch.

Beautiful film
19 October 2018
Kiera Knitghtley is so good in a period piece. Colette is happily married to WIlly, however he locks her in the room so she will write the novels he takes credit for. She slowly comes to the knowledge that his fame is really hers and slowly finds herself and has the guts to leave him. Beautifully filmed, costumed, and directed. Kiera is clearly the queen of period pieces now. Many may not like some of the scenes - but it was her life.

No spoilers for me
10 October 2018
I have now seen the three remakes of A Star is Born -and this one is fantastic. Kudos to Bradley Cooper for an amazing success in directing, writing and starring in this movie. His talent is incredible and shown so well in this film. I so appreciated his use of the closeup filming - right in the actors faces and making it so intimate for the audience. The concert scenes were so fun - made you feel you were there. Lady Gaga - a new film star and hopefully Oscar nominee. Besides her voice being a huge part of the film, she has developed great acting skills. Her emotions were right on through out the film. Sam Elliott - so much fun to see him in this role - and no matter your age he is a pleasure to see and listen too. This is one of the best films of the year and I really hope those who worked on it get the honors they deserve.

a fun romp
5 October 2018
This was a fun way to spend a Friday morning with my daughter - neither of us expected a great film but we were both curious after hearing about it from others. A highly predictable story and we were always hoping for a happy ending. The costumes were fun, the sets were fun and not disappointing since I have seen an article about the hotel where many things happened in this story. It was as it is in real life. I could not help thinking that the costs of the dance numbers, the parties , well just everything had to have been very high. Do not expect this to be an unrealistic film - I am told that there are many people who actually live this way - just not my way. I have a hard time with the extravagance of the real rich and the appearance that they care not for others. But this was a fun romp - just not how the 98% live. Loved Awkwafina - a touch of the real reality.

Oscar performance
16 September 2018
A very well done film about a arrogant man and the student he pursued and the outcome of their marriage. Throw in the Nobel Prize as the backdrop of her finally coming to terms with the life she has and what she threw away. Johnathan Pryce is so good as the prize winner, the ever controlling man who does not have the talent but gets the praise. Glenn Close is amazing - the close ups of her anger coming to the surface through the film says so much. And then she finally speaks! A writer who wants to write the biography keeps asking questions of the wife and her son - well done. The thing I will remember most is what the ex-wife said to the writer - she was glad she took him away from her. I want to know more - what does she do with her life now, and what does she tell her children?? I loved this movie - real life well portrayed.

True to life
13 August 2018
I am a grandmother and my kids did not have the social media issues that kids have not. I really think this was a fair presentation of what life is like for so many kids not. Kayla is not one of the popular girls - she does a video on things that interest her and has a few followers. She is trying to boost her self esteem and that is so true to life. The whole film is from Kayla's viewpoint, her reactions to friends and non-friends is so real. The pay attention to me but don't pay attention to me is so well shown. The relationship between father and daughter is beautiful and real. Elsie Fisher is so perfect for this role. Bo Burnham succeeds in his first writing and directing - can't wait to see what else he does. Thank you for making this such an honest film.

Silence after viewing
13 August 2018
This documentary will stay with you for a long time after viewing and you will still not have answers to your questions. Three babies separated and adopted by three families - all different - and watched over many years. The history of how 2 found each other, and then the third and the publicity that followed. The story gets more interesting and more questions come to mind. The connection of the adoption agency, a Dr. Neubauer, and why??? The interviews with the parents, the assistants to Neubauer, and mostly with the men themselves are amazing in telling this story. A well produced, well written and well told. This is a story I will wonder about for a long time.

A good sequel
1 August 2018
First of all I have seen the broadway version 3 times, the movie twice and looked forward to this - also love ABBA music. I do not look forward to most sequel movies and most disappoint (I am so frustrated with the lack of original films these days). But I think this is a fun bit of fluff - the stories of Donna and Sophie told at the same time and well presented. I applaud the film editing - such smooth transitions. The cast - so much fun and the music and the dancing - woke up this morning with the songs going thru my head. It is not a great film - it is a fun film. And I love Greece too.

Such disappointment
4 June 2018
I had not heard of this movie in the recent past - so since Juliette Benoche was the lead I was excited to see another of her films. I kept waiting for it to get better - actually I found it quite boring. She jumps between the men and there is really o meaningful conversations between them. The credits at the end were interestingly presented. The best thing I can say is that she is still so beautiful.
