I read the book about a year before they released this. The book was FAR better! Combining the characters of Pagan and Kate must have been a financial decision.
The one thing that stands out the most in my mind is when Lili is running through Abdullah's palace, and she runs through the Patio de los Leones, right across a fountain that EVERY First year Spanish student has looked at in their text books. So, like, at least 2/3 of the US population was familiar with it, snd probably half of them could remember that it was not in "Sydon" in the Middle East! (The long distance view of the palace was shot in Africa, I believe. Morocco).
