Star Trek: Picard: The Bounty (2023)
Loved it... thanks for the fan service
Is this the same Picard I suffered through in season 1 and 2?
This is Star Trek, made for fans, by fans. Whoever made this, thanks for actually giving most of us what we wanted to watch all along unlike the past two seasons and Discovery :)
I know this is the last season, but it's like we're back with the TNG crew again for one last adventure. Forgetting season 1 & 2 ever happened, this is what it should have been.
The museum scene, whilst not needed for the plot, was a tear jerker for those who grew up watching in the 90s and early 2000s, especially seven talking about voyager and was a great nod to the fans who have continued to watch despite the recent poor remakes
For the first time in a long time, I can't wait for the next episode.
Star Trek: Picard: Hide and Seek (2022)
Another mediocre episode
I'm trying my best to last out to the end of the series, because at this point it's pretty much a running joke on just how bad this has become.
This episode at least was an improvement over the last two and had a bit of action and progression, but still it's just so incredibly dull and dumb. Some things that irked me:
- Why did the Borg soldiers need green lights coming from their weapons. Totally pointless, and made them easy to spot and kill.
- The set of the Picard mansion and the thunder/lightning looks so plastic and fake that it ruined the otherwise nice special effects. I've seen better looking sets in the original series (ok, slight exaggeration there :))
- They bring back the Romulan elf guy (Elrond or whatever his name is) as a ship's hologram.. Despite being a computer program, he's able to joke/be sacrastic, beat up and kill Borg soldiers etc.. If it was this easy to secure your ship, why bother having any security crew at all. Holograms can't die right? An invisible sword fighting soldier.. why not!!!
- So, it just took a simple conversation with the Borg queen to convert her to their will... really... this is an insult to all the episodes and films that have come before that portray the Borg as emotionless and efficient killers. It's time to leave the Borg to rest, it's been overdone and there is no story left there now.
- The Picard flashbacks.... These are just super annoying and add nothing to the story or plot.
Why they keep using Alex Kurtzman to write Star Trek I don't know... it's at this point just talentless drivel that is entertaining to watch for just how bad it is. I wonder if the producers of this show actually read the IMDB reviews and can see just how much people dislike it and Discovery.
Severance (2022)
A true masterpiece of writing
This is a really incredible and original show that had me gripped from the first episode.
The basic premise of the story is not so far off to be unbelievable and the characters are all very likeable and relatable. Anyone who enjoyed Black Mirror will love this show. The plot leaves you wanting more, wondering and looking for answers, and the cliff hanger ending of Season 1 leaves us thirsty for a Season 2.
Such shows are a rarity these days, but Apple have hit two home-runs with this and their other show "For All Mankind".
10/10 Highly Recommended.
Star Trek: Picard: Mercy (2022)
Awful Story, just going nowhere
I'm not sure what the writers of this show are thinking, but this seems to be going nowhere, especially after the last episode. The story is a total mess, boring and dragged out in what probably could have been a two-part episode in the TNG days.
Star Trek was always about a positive future and something to hope for. Now we have this mess, with characters talking like they have never left 2022 (and the politics behind), and everyone in need of therapy sessions.
Picard and Q are shadows of their former TNG characters, and the rest of the characters are just so unlikable that I really can only hope the Borg win and wipe them all out (that would get a 10/10 rating from me)
Watching TNG, DS9 and even Enterprise, the difference is night and day. Even some of the worst ever episodes of those series beat this.
