Ted Lasso (2020)
Started strong
Like other reviewers have written, the first two seasons are good. Season three, however, lacks
Interesting stories and plots and I've only made it halfway until I have given up. I do think having a queer character makes a lot of sense, since it is very stigmatized in sport, but the way it is written is generic and boring.
Also, the way season 2 ended, I expected a lot more of the Nate storyline. Lastly, I can't watch any more of the group dynamic scenes where everyone just always talks over each other, overall they are getting really cringey, so I am just going to stop watching all together.
The Peripheral (2022)
Not captivating and catering to creeps
The first episode held some promise - even though I was sometimes slightly creeped off about how Chloë Grace Moritz was filmed - I mean doing the male gaze in the very first shot you see her? I mean come on. She is supposed to be a teen! Even if the story was in some ways interesting, I couldn't get to the end of the second episode. The dialoge was bad, the overall story was not captivating and the characters had no depth. Going on to see reviews here I am sure I am not missing out on watching this show. Besides it is leaving a really bad taste knowing how an actress with such a childlike innocence to her is getting drooled over by a bunch of creeps that are watching. This is obviously catering to a specific audience.
The House (2022)
A lot of food for thought!
These three short stories are eerie and sad in their own ways but you do get somewhat of a happy end in the last one. I think every one of them was worth watching for different reasons. These psychological stories use analogies to explain fears, depression and obsession. A house and materialism can be all consuming in many ways and can be the reason for ones own bankruptcy, depression and demise.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Happy I watched this!
Just read a brunch of the bad reviews and realized alot of these viewers seem to be missing the point. Yes this movie is political, but it is not favoring liberals. All the parts of the Popstar and the TV show is a critique on how liberals and the left use empty entertainment to distract from the real problems. In the end it shows how woke culture doesn't get you far, if you don't take action. And yeah same goes for fanatic conspiracy theorists and people denying science.
Queer Eye: From Hunter to Huntee (2019)
Love and compassion, but not for all living beings
I skipped this episode, because it was clear from early on it would be about a hunter. I love the guys and this show, but always when it comes to animals, I feel there is still more room for even more love. They "aaaaw" at a dog in the intro and then a hunter is introduced as their next hero. The word for this is speciesism. Animals should be protected, not exploited and killed regardless of what their species are. I'm not saying that the hunter is a bad person, but everyone knows by now that we don't need to eat animals to be healthy, especially Netflix. I think for such a progressive show, they really need to improve on that topic. And I cant grasp the horribly unhealthy meals Antoni is preparing. Just because of this, he is my least favorite.
Queer Eye (2018)
All good, except the food!
The reason I take half the stars away is only because of the food Antoni makes. It is most of the time not healthy and not a good choice of nutrition. The absolute worst moment of the show was, when he showed Remington to make Mac and Cheese and Meatloaf for his family that still mourns the sudden death of his father. The father died of a heartattack.
The food is really something the show needs to change. Animal products not only cause a lot of diseases and deaths of billions of animals. It is one of the biggest causes of climate change and the planets destruction. Please extend your love and compassion to other species and advocate a wholefood plantbased diet. That would make the show truly progressive.
