Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
Movie of the year!
This summer has featured some pretty spectacular films, but Dawn of the Planet of the Apes outshines every one of them. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole 2 hours. The action is fun, the characters (humans and apes alike) are well- developed, cool soundtrack, and the 3D fits perfectly. And the CGI effects have vastly improved. My god, technology is incredible-there are scenes where I have a tough time figuring out whether it's real, or it's digital. There are two characters who easily stand out: Caesar, and Koba. If you don't remember, Caesar is the main ape from the last movie who shared that relationship with James Franco, and now he is the ruler of all the apes. And Koba, who was the badly scarred-up ape who was tested a lot from the previous movie, is now Caesar's trusted adversary. In this film, Caesar is all about peace between ape and human kind, but Koba despises all humans. This leads to the story playing out very interesting...plus, there is a plot twist that I did not see coming that really changed the movie. In all of this, I don't think I have a real big gripe...or a little one. I really thought about it for a while, and I can't think of anything I disliked at all. This might not be the MOST accurate review, but it's just my opinion, and my opinion is that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is movie of the year. So far...
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
This might be my favorite movie ever!
One word to describe The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug...
Holy-sh*t-this-movie-f*cking-rocks!
I don't know another way to put it. Peter Jackson created a better if not just-as-good sequel to An Unexpected Journey. This is easily my favorite movie of the year, sorry Pacific Rim and Man of Steel.
Martin Freeman is the visual definition of Bilbo. His sarcasm, his cleverness, his cautiousness, his walk, his talk, it fits Bilbo's description flawlessly. Ian McKellan is always great as Gandalf, and his 5th appearance is no exception. The rest of the bunch does a fantastic job supporting and carrying on in the ever-so-slightly parts that tend to drag.
The action is dynamic and captivating, and the suspense is easily amplified from most films, which is led by one of the biggest yet satisfying cliffhangers in a film I have ever seen.
However, if I am to review Hobbit 2...I need to review the stand-alone title-bound character that kicks the bad-assitude level to 11:
Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug the Magnificent Dragon.
Holy. Sh*t.
Smaug just fills the screen with sheer beauty. The way he slithers in the gold, the way his facial expressions curl as he speaks, and his size in general made me need a new pair of pants! His fight scene is pure awesomeness, and the end, when he is briefly encased in a body of gold, it may have been the most beautiful creature scene I have seen since I first saw Godzilla in action!
Peter Jackson has created, once again for the 5th time, a remarkable experience of Middle Earth. The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is...just reminiscing of every scene is enough for me to say it.
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is my favorite movie ever.
11/10, if you leave the theater disappointed and annoyed, you probably saw a different movie, because there is just no way you will not leave satisfied...unless you hate cliffhangers-but that only adds to how much you will want to see how Peter Jackson closes out the Hobbit Franchise.
F*CKING SEE THIS MOVIE!
This Is the End (2013)
The Summer's funniest, and probably most profane, film has arrived!
From start to finish, This Is the End delivered hilarity.
Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Danny McBride had great chemistry on the screen. Sure, it was really profane, but if profanity is not an issue with you, then this is movie not to be missed. The film is all about how a handful movie stars must survive what seems to be the end of the world, and they do it with humor. This
Is the End is filled with great cameos, mature content, and some surprisingly well done CGI effects. This Is The End is a movie that should not go unnoticed, and is the Summer's funniest movie!
Godzilla (1998)
Mediocre-ly OK
Godzilla (1998) was not great, but it wasn't terrible. I am a major G- Man fan, and this movie monster gives me and us a different perspective on the radioactive icon. Now, as a monster overall, it was decent, but as Godzilla, now that's pretty hard to accept. His trademark characteristics shown in all of the Toho movies kind of disappeared with this monster (let's just call it Zilla): its size was drastically altered and shrunk, its atomic breath was...just fire, and you really couldn't see it coming from the mouth, so it's really to tell if it is atomic (fire) breath. Oh, and also, its immunity to being killed by the army has vanished.
Anyway, back to the actual movie. Like I said, it overall isn't a TERRIBLE movie. However, I feel there are some acting problems, such as line delivery. And the movie really focused on the relationship troubles of two people, and a little less on Zilla. On the brighter side, there was a good amount of action, and the computer graphics weren't too shabby. All in all, this was a mediocre-ly OK movie.
Gojira Mosura Kingu Gidora Daikaijû sôkôgeki (2001)
Definitely One of my Favorite G-Man Movies!
Wow. That's all, just wow. This is one of Toho's best Godzilla films. GMK is action-packed, exhilarating, and their are a few cheesy moments to give you a chuckle. Godzilla looks awesome in this film. His white eyes give you one of the more menacing looks of the monster. The action scenes are great as G-Man faces Mothra, King Ghidorah, and another monster that for some reason wasn't used in the title, but I don't really want to spoil anything if you haven't seen the movie. The effects are fairly spectacular, and the actors really do do a good job...I think, I mean I really can't tell because I'm not from Asia.
Anyway, this is one of my favorite Godzilla films. You won't be disappointed seeing this film. I LOVE IT!
