Apocalypse (1998)
A realistic and emotional film with a good message
As many reviewers have noted, this movie was filmed with a low budget, but I believe that it has a good message and the producers and actors took this film seriously. The actors are not considered top-quality or famous, but they made a good effort and they were professional and I felt strong emotions while watching the film. The film is quite realistic and I could genuinely feel the emotions of fear that Helen and Bronson faced. However, I also felt hope as they woke up to the dark truth.
Writing this review in 2021 after seeing the riots and division in the USA and strong anti-Christian attitudes makes me feel even more worry compared to when I first saw this movie many years ago. I plan to watch the next 3 movies as well. I hope more people see this film.
Capital Punishment (1991)
You can tell this movie was cheaply made! Plot Summary.
This movie has a plot; a drug was manufactured for the purpose of improving food genetically but was found to cause birth defects and therefore was made illegal for use, it is highly addictive and very cheap to make. Thayer(Gary Daniels) was set up by a corrupt police detective to stage a fake death in the ring of his opponent while kick boxing, then they made it appear he really did kill his opponent. He has to run from the cops as well as the drug dealing Japanese gang led by his former sensai. His goal is to stop the shipment of drugs as well as put a stop to the gang. He must battle many villains including his former sensai in an epic match. Decent but somewhat complex plot the bad thing about this movie is the fight scenes are very sluggish at most times and the overall filming quality is horrible. This seems to be a low budget B movie, it is an OK movie but it would not be my first choice to buy. Almost any karate or kick boxing movie tops this as far as fight scenes go, this movie is at times hard to take seriously and is at times laughable with its slow fight scenes.
White Wolves III: Cry of the White Wolf (1999)
Nice adventure/nature movie
Plot summary was wrong, it was 2 teenagers and their Native American pilot that were stranded in the wilderness. The girl is rich, self centered and panicky while the boy is a repeat thief forced to attend juvenile camp as a punishment-both have little or no wilderness experience. The plane that was heading to a wilderness juvenile camp and flies off course before it crashes, therefore they have little chance of rescue before the cold winter sets in, they must hike many miles for help. Will they make it?? They face many obstacles and challenges, I won't go into more detail-I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone. This is a good movie for anyone at any age, it is interesting to see them work out their challenges-the white wolf plays a part also in helping them-watch and find out how. Very underrated movie. Enjoy.
Bartleby (2001)
Excellent movie with a lot of depth
Bartleby is an excellent film. It was on HBO 2 days after I read Melville's "Bartleby" short story for college. This movie is a modernized version of Melville's tale but it keeps to the main purpose of the story very well without too much drastic changes and I think even Melville would approve of this movie. Do not see this movie without first carefully reading Melville's story first or it will not make sense to you and you won't enjoy it. This movie has some comedy to keep it light at times but the overall message that the viewer is supposed to get remains the same, I won't tell you the message so I don't spoil this movie for you. If you enjoy social comedies with depth in them this is your movie, if you only like comedies with cheesy humor than this is not the film for you. Personally, I will watch this movie again and I was pleasantly surprised, I highly recommend this "undiscovered" film.
