Abigail (2024)
7/10
Ready or Not 2.0
21 April 2024
Radio Silence I think you may have a problem when it comes to wrapping up movies with these past two attempts but this time I blame the direction than the writing

What happened?! You won me over with Ready or Not, impressed me with Scream 5, disappointed me with Scream 6, and left me wanting more with Abigail. Anyway, positives - the entire cast especially Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, and Kathryn Newton are amazing, as usual great mix of comedy and horror, the cinematography captured the eerie elegance of the mansion setting, creating a visually captivating atmosphere that was both haunting and beautiful, Brian Tyler always delivers with his score especially his use of the violin adds an extra layer of spine-tingling tension, enhancing the movie's chilling atmosphere flawlessly, and of course there's a lot of blood. But just like Scream 6, strong first two acts and underwhelming, rushed 3rd act however, this one is miles stronger than Scream 6

And also, avoid the trailers if you want to be surprised when watching for the first time..

Saw X (2023)
10/10
Who knew a Saw film centered around John Kramer would be the best one?
30 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Saw X is surprisingly amazing considering this is the 10th installment of the franchise (no Jigsaw traps in outer space unfortunately). It gathered all the best parts of the original trilogy and VI with its creative but raw traps, twists and turns, and simple but deep, moving, character driven story where you will be sympathizing and rooting with the villains who are indeed the film's protagonists. Tobin Bell was always amazing and we can all agree no one could ever top his performance as Jigsaw because he's Jigsaw but this film is his film and brings the character to life more than ever before. Shawnee Smith as Amanda also deserves a round of applause; love her and Bell's onscreen collaboration. Believe it or not, this film has heart and the script was handled with care and respect and is a love letter to diehard Saw fans. Saw X is arguably the best in the franchise but imo it's the best!

The Nun II (2023)
9/10
One of the better sequels in The Conjuring Universe
7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While The Nun is a overhated but fun spin-off, this sequel is a huge improvement and is up there in quality with the first two Conjuring films and Annabelle: Creation as one of the franchise's best. The two main leads, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet are back and gave it their all with their performances and of-course Bonnie Aarons as The Nun/Valak still terrifying as she should be as well the entire cast gave realistic performances. The terror and scares are better here and are less predictable and well timed. Michael Chaves, I owe you an apology because you 100% delivered here especially with his eye for visuals and aesthetic. I guess third time's a charm. Overall, The Nun II is a welcome addition to The Conjuring Universe and hopefully we'll get a trilogy.

Barbie (I) (2023)

You're Kenough y'all!
10 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Went in to see for Margot Robbie, left giving flowers to Ryan Gosling

Greta Gerwig's Barbie is a one of a kind type of movie and arguably the movie of the summer. Greta brings the world of Barbie to life with its visually dazzling cinematography, amusing soundtrack and choreographies, and lively, hot pink set pieces. The film's satire commentary tackles on sexism, societal norms, and existentialism that will connect with the viewers while also give them a good amount of chuckles here and there. And last and certainly not least, the entire ensemble brought their Barbie and Ken game with Robbie and Gosling giving Oscar worthy performances. Barbie is a movie I'd watch in theaters!

Welcome Entry To The Franchise
6 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's been a decade since we last seen the Lambert family and they were incredibly missed. Without spoiling, the aftermath of their terrifying experience from the original two takes a realistic turn and I appreciate that take on family trauma. As for Patrick's directorial debut, he was superb and managed to distinguish himself from the previous directors where theirs feel more supernatural horror while his feels more psychological horror. Last, Patrick understood the assignment by giving off tension when it's needed and showing less is more. My only negatives are the limited amount of scares, pacing issues during the 2nd act, and the somewhat lackluster 3rd act. Overall, The Red Door is a solid ending to the Lambert family trilogy.

A Groovy addition to the Evil Dead Franchise!
21 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Evil Dead Rise is utterly carnage candy, the most unsettling, and scariest entry in the franchise. While this is an Evil Dead fan's wet dream, it pays homages to other horror classics (The Shining and The Thing) that horror fans all alike would appreciate along with its gnarly practical effects and makeup, incredibly terrifying sound design and cinematography, and well utilized set piece (no cabins or 13 Century Medieval England but an apartment). Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie is amazing and by far the scariest deadite. The franchise have yet had a bad movie so greenlit that 6th movie or should we wait another decade.

Scream VI (2023)
6/10
Amazing Til The 3rd Act
16 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Scream VI is an intense roller coaster of a film that is so fast it's too much to process what you're witnessing; like the adrenaline would not stop til the end of the movie. For the die hard Scream fans, they finally addressed the past sequels and killers instead of pretending to be a direct sequel to the original; 6 is a love letter to the sequels.

Ghostface is a menace more so than ever in this film, whenever he's around you know the characters there are either going to get a brutal death or go through an abundant amount of pain. The kills/gore here is the franchise top tier. What also were the film's highlights were the chase scenes that had me at the edge of my seat especially for the film's beloved characters that gave me Scream 2 level of intensity.

And of course, it's a Scream movie where we get the iconic opening kill and killer/killers reveal. Without spoiling, both are incredibly different especially the opening while the reveal is something I've been asking forever so seeing it happening onscreen was amazing. Nonetheless, there are several of imperfections in the film particularly in the 3rd act such as illogical writing and plot armor (if you know, you know) for certain characters. Overall, SCREAM VI is a movie I'll see in theaters more than once.

The Menu (2022)
9/10
After watching this I crave a cheeseburger!
18 November 2022
The Menu is probably the most unpredictable movie I've seen in a while. This thriller is filled tension and super dark comedy moments and it's wonderfully carried by the amazing, Anya-Taylor Joy, the charismatic, Nicholas Hoult, the menacing, Ralph Fiennes, and the rest of the cast as well (one of the best ensembles in a film of the year). Overall, this is a brilliant satire on the food industry and class warfare. This film is (pun intended) chef's kiss!

Also little tangent, Nicholas Hoult was up against Robert Pattinson for The Batman and after watching The Menu I really wish Nicholas gotten the part because he gave a lot of Bruce Wayne energy here.

A Parody Masterpiece
5 November 2022
"Live the life you wanna live. You know, be as weird as you wanna be. Believe me, you will never find true happiness."

Before watching, I thought this was going to be just another biographical musical drama but boy was I wrong. This film knows exactly what it is, a highly exaggerated biography of Alfred Yankovic and it delivered. Not one dull moment in this film, the pacing is on point and flies by, phenomenal performances from and especially Daniel Radcliffe who gave it all with his perfect, comedic performance. This is literally a parody masterpiece and the most hilarious film of the year for me. My one only negative is putting this on Roku because the heck with them ads.

Terrifier 2 (2022)
4/10
A slight improvement over the original only tainted by its excessively long runtime and all over the place plot
3 November 2022
Pros: Art the clown is still the star of the show and steals every scene he's in. Decent cinematography especially the color palette which set the tone for the film. Last, the dream sequence (Clown cafe) was well directed, acted, and choreographed.

Mixed: Some of the performances were decent while others were WOW atrocious. As for the main attraction of the film, the kills are not bad for its low budget however some of them looked really faked and went on way too long where it reach to the point of being absolutely ridiculous and comedic (not sure if that was intentional or not) Cons: The runtime and boy does it drags. Cut out 40 mins out of the film would've benefited it for me.

Every time Art wasn't on screen I was bored. The story does not make any sense at all and the film ended with a lot of questions.

There is definitely an audience for this film, unfortunately I'm not one of them.

Cancel me, I love this finale!
14 October 2022
Cancel me, I love this finale!

I'll keep this spoiler free. This isn't your typical Halloween movie or slasher. It's more of a slow burn psychological horror like The Shining or John Carpenter's Christine with some Romero and Juliet elements. This movie is ballsy af and I applaud them for this new direction.

First, I absolutely love David Gordon Green's direction and imo this is his best out of the three films. This is by far Jamie Lee Curtis's best performance as the iconic Laurie Strode and the character's best arc in the trilogy as well as her onscreen granddaughter, Andi Matichak whose character finally got the great amount of development I've been asking for since the 2018 film. James Jude Courtney as the Shape/Michael Myers has won me over as the best Michael since Halloween Kills and just like in Ends, he still proves himself as the best. Last, newcomer, Rohan Campbell gave a fine performance as this new character, Cory Cunningham and people will have some opinions over this character and I've heard mixed responses but I lean a little more so on the positive side.

This is an unique, bold kind of ending but I welcome it. The kills for you gorehounds are there but they aren't as gory as last year's Halloween Kills (maybe except for one particular kill which I was surprised they got away with from the MPA) but definitely more story and character driven. There are a few negatives that I can't discuss without spoiling.

This is a satisfying conclusion to the Laurie vs Michael saga and the end of an era. Watch this with an open mind and you will appreciate certain aspects of it whether you end up liking it or not. Lastly, the epic fight we have been waiting for is absolutely brutal, intense, and bloody (it makes H20's fight look tame). This is must see theater experience and not a streaming experience.

Mia Goth is Xcellent!
16 September 2022
Ti West and A24 have given us another masterpiece this year. This slow burn melodrama slasher pays an extraordinary homage to early Hollywood films especially with their technical achievements (from the score to the editing to the cinematography to the fonts).

Goth's performance is a masterclass in horror cinema and the entire cast did a fine job as well. If you enjoy 'X', you will absolutely enjoy this prequel even though it is more of a character driven film than your typical slasher like X but it is an awesome companion. And again, Mia Goth deserves an Oscar nomination I can't emphasize this enough.

The Invitation (II) (2022)

Twilight meets Ready or Not meets Get Out
26 August 2022
I really enjoyed The Invitation. I never saw the trailers (just quick 30 sec teasers) til after I saw the movie and wow did it spoiled the entire film. This films works better as a romance drama than a horror. The two main leads (Nathalie Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty( were the highlights of the movie for me with their awesome chemistry and performances, the humor was great, and I love the gothic atmosphere setting and vibes. Personally, I wouldn't call it a bad movie more like a flawed one and would've benefited with a R rating.

Best Episode of the series

This episode is better than all of season 1 episodes combined. It felt like old school AHS and Denis O'Hare was phenomenal. The writing was also pretty solid as well.

Ethan Hawke is now going to part of my nightmares
25 June 2022
Those two young actors can freaking act. The Black Phone is a new kind of horror with a simple but refreshing tale with really effective jump scares and suspense throughout. This is a must see theater experience with a packed audience.

It's not that bad
17 June 2022
I've either seen worse movies or the hive mind mentality on the internet is stronger than ever. This movie isn't even that bad. Yes there are some pacing issues, it's heavily edited, and it has a slow, fairly simple plot but there are some impressive visuals and action scenes (the subway scene), and Matt Smith delivered an intimidating but campy performance which made the movie a lot better.

Should Have Been Called: Wanda Maximoff in the Multiverse of Madness
5 May 2022
This isn't a MCU film, it's a Sam Rami film. I was in cloud 9 especially at the very beginning of the movie with its impressive visuals and intense, insane action. I haven't seen of all MCU but I'm very familiar with their usual formula or story structure. Into the Multiverse of Madness takes a more refreshing approach with a lot of brutality, felt pre-Disney era, and the humor felt right. Rami managed to added in some of his horror elements in there (Drag Me to Hell vibes) but I wanted more but I digress. The "short" runtime doesn't feel short, it's evenly paced out with no rushed moments (I recommend watching or rewatching WandaVision prior). Obviously, Cumberbatch and especially Olsen stole the show with their masterly performances. And last but not least, the amazing, Sam Rami god I miss him and his unique but amazing craft. Appreciate the movie for what it is and not with your expectations.

Mads Mikkelsen should have been casted as Grindelwald since the beginning
14 April 2022
As much as I enjoy the previous entry, this film fixed the flaws it created with the screenplay, amazing visual effects especially on the creatures, return that Harry Potter magic, fantastic score, (pun intended), excellent pacing, highly exceptional performances from the new (Jessica Williams and Mads Mikkelsen) and returning cast. As much as I'd love a 4th and 5th entry, this film would've end the Fantastic Beasts series on a high note. Secrets of Dumbledore is the best one yet!

An A24 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre
23 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I came for Jenna Ortega but Mia Goth stole the show. 'X' is a must see theater experience especially if you're a horror/slasher buff. It's a chilling, stylish, slasher with beautifully haunting visuals which pay good homage to 70s filmmaking. There's a consistent sense of dread and suspense throughout the film which will definitely follow you when you leave the theater. Lastly, the gore is up there for you gorefest folks. Make sure to stay after the end credits for a sneak peek for the prequel, Pearl.

8 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Fresh has dark but clever humor, an intriguing plot, a great cast, and it's a slow burn but fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. Sebastian Stan went full on Patrick Batman and Leatherface in this suspenseful rom-com.

Mixed Feelings but Great Batman Film
5 March 2022
This is truly the best looking Batman film to date and it's the perfect representation of the character. Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz gave remarkable performances and the score is outstanding. But the story was unfortunately a miss for me or rather not my favorite in the franchise. Matt Reeves' direction was solid!

Met my expectations
22 February 2022
I expected nothing more than a fun, none sense, gorefest of a movie and that's what I got with some good acting from the main leads who played the sisters, great cinematography, and this version of Leatherface is probably the scariest.
