The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Super Movie for a great Super Hero
By far the best Spider Man movie ever made. This was what every other Spider Man was missing, great actors, gripping story and tons of action. The new Spider Man captures the true essence of the comic book, and delivers a story that could be taken from a comic book itself.
Going forward i can't see another actor being used in the role of Spider Man, Andrew Garfield is the embodiment of Spider Man, and he deliver a super hero performance.
If you are a fan of the comic book, or of action super hero movies, this one is a must see.
Great Movie.
The Campaign (2012)
I vote.....against.
This is the latest comedy with Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis. I was expecting a bit more from this duo and movie. It has plenty of funny moments and the overall movie is good, but nowhere near the blockbuster that i was expecting.
Will Ferrell is starting to become predictable, he seems to always do the same thing regardless of what movie he is in. To quote a famous comedian, he has lost his MOJO.
Galifianakis is a jam in this movie, he has really shown a range of acting skills with this role. A complete departure from his roles in The Hangover. He surprised me and was the bright spot of the movie.
Overall it is a good movie, but not as good as i hoped.
Rating: 6/10
V/H/S (2012)
Horrible Movie
This movie didn't live to the expectations i had of it. When i read the plot and watched the previews i had hopes that this movie would be a cult classic in the genre of POV horror flicks.
It won't be, this movie will slip into the sands of time just like the VHS tapes used in it. Who uses VHS tapes anymore anyways?
This sort of movie would have been great when the Blair Witch project came out, but that style of movie has had its day and no longer appeals to most horror enthusiasts.
In the end of the movie you still have no idea what the point of the movie was, sure you see lots of blood and guts but there is no clear understanding where the movie is trying to take you.
I would not recommend it to anyone.
Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed (2012)
War Time Drama
Plot: World War II, and 3 airborne soldiers get trapped behind enemy lines after a night drop.
This is a prequel to the movie Saints & Soldiers, but it has no real connection with the characters from the 1st movie. The only things in common is that both are set in WWII and that the movie is more about relationships between enemies than war itself.
This movie was not as good as the 1st one, but still a very entertaining movie. There are no bad people in war only people doing their jobs. The movie really shows how in German side there were good people, as there were in the American side, and in the end nobody really wanted to be there. They just wanted to go home to their families.
Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)
Great story
This movie stars Aubrey Plaza from Parks & Rec, and it is like she is playing the same person that she plays in the sitcom. She was perfect in this role, as i believe nobody else could do it like her.
The movie is classified as a comedy/sci fi, but to me the movie is more of a drama with a few laughs here and there. Life tends to be a medley of drama and comedy, and this movie is a perfect example of that.
Great story, and a very well done movie. It makes you think about our life, what could we have done different in the past and also how to look forward without letting things get in the way of what we want out of life. There are some real great life lessons in this movie, and a very compelling story.
In the end you will end up with some answers, but i believe the one question you will have it is up to each individual to answer it as they see fit. So while the moving has only one ending, it will have different meanings to different people, based on your own life experiences.
Saints and Soldiers (2003)
Interesting movie
his movie is based on real life events, which to me always makes for a better movie. It is a movie set in WWII but it isn't a war movie per say.
It is a story of 5 man, and how they struggle behind enemy lines to survive and bring important information to the Allied forces. Guilt, anger and hate will change into understanding and faith, by not only their actions but the actions of the soldiers who they are fighting against.
A well done movie with an interesting story, worth watching if you are a war movie fan.
Serbuan maut (2011)
Great Movie
This movie blew me away. Let me start by saying that this is an Indonesian production, and not a Hollywood movie. So don't expect to see anybody famous in it.
This movie is wall to wall martial arts/gun fights/violence kind of movie. I have never seen a movie this intense. The violence is at every turn with every fight, and the martial arts fights are insane. This movie puts Jet Li movies to shame. Best movie i have seen that has incorporated action movie with gun fights and martial arts. Very well done.
To me this movie has set the bar for martial arts action movies. Jackie Chan would be proud.
Go see it, it will blow you away.
Coriolanus (2011)
Well Done
Coriolanus is a 2011 British film adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Coriolanus. The play is based on the life of the legendary Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus. This is the directorial debut of Ralph Fiennes.
This movie is a modern era adaptation of the old Rome, senate and its soldiers.
Fiennes used modern day setting, of a city/country called Rome at war with a neighboring enemy. While the dialogue matches the 1608 Shakespeare novel, the settings are modern.
This is without a doubt a great way to tell an ancient story in a modern setting while still keeping the original dialogue. It was refreshing to see such a movie, since it really made you appreciate the timeless aspect of the story and its characters without concerning yourself with set designs or wardrobes.
This view of the play put all stock on the dialogue, characters and the story that was being told, instead of the bells and whistles that go with making a movie like this.
Well made, well directed, and a great performance by Fiennes.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
Abraham kicks ass
What a crazy twist to the history of Abraham Lincoln. While complete fantasy the movie has a very compelling story telling ability and loads of action at every turn.
It gives you a possible different look at the civil war and why it really happened, while taking to a Vampire war for survival and Abraham's quest to clean the world of Vampires.
Good cast, engaging storytelling and loads of action. Not an Oscar winning movie, but a great entertaining one.
Exciting movie and tons of action, what more can you ask for from a vampire slaying movie?
Madea's Witness Protection (2012)
Madea is getting old
This is another Tyler Perry movie that follows his best known character, Madea.
It is a typical Madea/Tyler Perry movie, but unlike some of his others movies in this one Madea is the main character and not just one of the characters in the story.
The movie has some funny moments, but is not as good as some of other Tyler Perry movies that he has done in the past. I am sure there are fans of his that will enjoy this movie, but i would rather watch one of his movies where Madea's character is just in the background and there is a solid plot to the movie, this movie looks like it was put together over a weekend vacation.
Essential Killing (2010)
A stripped down version of The Grey, with a political twist
Plot: A man is captured in the desert by United States forces after attacking three soldiers, and is soon tortured and brutalized in a secret detention center. He finds himself transported to Poland, along with other prisoners. He manages to escape into the vast frozen woodland, a world away from the home he knew.
If you are expecting a Hollywood kind of movie you will be disappointed. This polish films is more about the inner struggle to survive in a hostile environment, and how the human is conditioned to survive and will fight to the end not only to survive but most important to be free.
This movie has a lot of the same basis as The Grey, the main difference is that the backdrop story is different, but the aspect of survival, is there, this one also adds the aspect of freedom as a goal that drives survival.
That's My Boy (2012)
Why does Sandler sound dumb?
Adam Sandler sounds like he has a lisp for the whole movie. Why can't he talk like a normal person??
If you can get over that stupid voice, the movie isn't too bad at all. It is actually pretty funny, the voice is annoying, but the movie has plenty of LULZ.
I just can't get over that voice, why can't he just sound like a normal person???
Not his worst movie but not his greatest either. I think his best work is behind him.
Time to find something else to do.
Attack the Block (2011)
Great film, way better than what i expected
Attack the Block is a 2011 British science fiction thriller film written and directed by Joe Cornish. This is the British version of Super 8 with a twist and a crazy dialogue that will have you laughing at every turn.
If Ali G was attacked by aliens this dialogue is what he would say with every attack, every turn, every blood drop that gets dropped.
The dialogue is phenomenal, but the action is non-stop. Great British film, that has you following these kids in a war against aliens.
If Goonies and Super 8 had a British love child, this movie would be it.
