Doctor Who: The Devil's Chord (2024)

So Disney's High School Musical Meets the Doctor
11 May 2024
And they say Jodie Whitaker was not a good Doctor?

Well, I'm not blaming Ncuti Gatwa. I'm blaming Disney. I said it.

The Disneyfication of the Doctor Who franchise has turned it into a bloody mess! BBC has lost credibility by turning over the artistic reins of this episode to the producers of Disney's High School Musical which I have never seen, and don't intend to see. This might have been better as an animated episode.

No empathy towards the characters, no heartfelt companion story; just a bizarre villain(ess?) and some hokey Special FX. The Eccleston, Tennant, Smith and Capaldi years were leaps and bounds better, with much better storytelling. Please hurry up this season so I can unsubscribe from Disney+!!!

Stop Taking Mythology Literally!!
30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a beautiful ending.

So many naysayers want a Disney/Marvel Thor story, but it was never that kind of story to begin with!

Magne and Laurits struggle with teen dilemmas, with their identities, with their peers. Sexual identity, deaths of parents and friends, disabilities(dyslexia, amputations), and challenges the characters to move on.

The story pays respect to modern humanity, it encourages humans to live better when we give up the anger, give up the weapons, and move past the trauma!

The Netflix story is a metaphor for people that live with violence through religious/mythological influence, but how when you give up the fiction, give up the religion, you can live peacefully.

Who Shat on the Floor at My Wedding? (2020 Podcast Series)

All but the last episode...
28 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Came across this podcast and enjoyed Episodes 1 through 12, more or less. They're short enough at 1.25x speed to listen to quickly, most under 45minutes.

Great production quality. Funny, snarky, and sarcastic.

But finale episode is a whopping 1h43m and drones on and on, departing from the comical detective line of questioning and gets bogged down in a lot of interpersonal BS.

Spoiler alert: they solve nothing. I literally had to skip to the last 5 minutes of Ep 13 I was that bored, only for an announcement that it's now a "Cold Case"... with no resolution.

So I recommend episodes 1-12 as is, but skip Episode 13.

Do Not Watch! How Jim Carrey and Ron Howard Ruin Christmas
27 November 2022
STOP! MUST READ! DO NOT WATCH THIS HORRIBLE FILM!!!

As a fan of the original Dr. Seuss animated television shows based minimally on simply the children books he wrote, how this apocalypse of a film ever got made I will never understand!

I'm embarrassed for all the top notch talent that appear and add absolutely nothing.

Whoville and The Grinch don't need a back story.

I've avoided watching this film for 22 years and am only watching under duress.

Post-Batman & Robin, Joel Schumacher's abomination, they must have had leftover bits of the Riddler for Jim Carrey to include in this Grinch film.

And I can't believe this actually win an Oscar for Best Makeup! Since when did the Grinch become a dog faced creature?

AVOID FOR YOUR BENEFIT!!!

Perfectly Awful
19 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Based on a True Story" is a pure lie. Netflix & Ryan Murphy take so much creative license to spin a yarn of drivel, it resembles nothing in reality. The original real story just wasn't interesting!

Thought if was an interesting lineup of actors, including Mia Farrow, Richard Kind.

Actors must be desperate for work. And viewers must be desperate for content to rate this anywhere above a "4!"

Could not make it past middle of Episode 2. Cults and drinking baby blood?! Really jumped the shark with that.

For fiction stick with Cobra Kai or Bridgerton on Netflix. For real drama go with Mare of Easttown. Entertainment really going downhill.

We don't need another Hero
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And you're not getting one with this Season finale.

No story, no plot development, very little action.

Also, let's make up legalise-speak as we go. Because.... Lawyers!

Yes, even the writers and Kevin Feige are in on this Hot Mess. Do I even care about Hulk, She-Hulk, "Skaar"-Hulk or even the Marvel Universe at this point? -No Teasers of future X-Men series/films?-Who cares, they'll just be watered down because this episode mentions them.

Daredevil-Disneyfied..: he might as well wear Mouse ears and dance at a Disney Theme park near you!

I had high hopes for this series, but this is apparently another victim of the pandemic.

Marvel Needs to Write for the 13-90 age Crowd
19 August 2022
When you have an Emmy-winning star, Tatiana Maslany, paired with a Lead writer from "Rick and Morty" you're bound to get an overall bad production with lots of stereotypes.

I've never read the comic books, but as an MCU fan I shouldn't have to since Disney hasn't stayed true to those storylines much anyway.

She-Hulk can be a strong character without all the stereotype traps! Like any hero/villain story give them deeper origin stories. A 2-month montage doesn't get it.

I was hoping for some Popcorn entertainment and I got cabbage soup. Hope this gets better!

Where's the Crawdads?
6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well performed but it did seem to drag on a bit.

For all the beautiful naturist illustrations the main character, Kya, produces living in the North Carolina marsh, where are the Crawdads? I mean, it's right there in the title!

Did not need to be remade!!
11 July 2022
The 1977 film captured a struggling actor's world in New York. This remake completely misses the mark, casting two near-age 50 main actors. And notes to anyone producing or directing Neil Simon: stay true to the text.

This was a straight-up greedy money grab to try and profit off of an already successful screenplay.

DC meets The Boys
23 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Take DC's Justice League and put Homelander from The Boys in charge and you a reason to make a rated R animated film. Squeeze in a little Multiverse twist and you have carte blanche to kill off major characters and put Superman/Homelander in a position to wipe out a group of Joker ravers a la Kim Jung Oon!!!

The feel good ending was a bit much. We should have seen Superman/Homelander obliterated with a Red Sun Gun!!!

In Xanadu 2021
7 November 2021
If Xanadu and Marvel had a baby, it would be the Eternals. Fantasy, inspiration, Gods & Celestials, End of the World, Save all of Humanity.

Except no Roller skates, but it does have a Bollywood Musical Number. I wish it had had Roller skates.

Ignore the Naysayers - Fun Show!!!
18 September 2021
All the 1-star reviews are flatly wrong. Only 1 episode was watched when those reviews were even posted!

1) this is comedy 2) It's a SITUATIONAL Comedy... aka Sitcom. Normal situations. Awkward characters. Comedic setups. Funny outcomes.

3) it's meant to be cringe-worthy with a 14-yo main character starting High School, who is muslim, awkward, child of divorce, pubescent, and seeking to be popular and fit in.

Relax, not all comedies are for everyone, but please: Actually watch the whole series before criticizing.

Brava Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher! Feel good 2020!
2 January 2021
I am usually a Disney skeptic for its cheese factor with Princess movies, but much like Enchanted (Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey) this film teaches that there is more to true love than just between two people. It's within families, extended families, new families and friends. You can truly love helping someone find the happiness within them. Kicking off 2021 on New Year's Day with this film is just the thing to brush off the holiday blues. I watched with my adult special needs sister and even she spontaneously applauded at several happy moments! 😃 So, Brava Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher!!!

Not a real production
25 May 2020
This is not a licensed, commercially available film.

It's video (via YouTube) of production backstage and clips from the show.

Brilliant performances by all, in a heart-wrenching and compelling story dealing with mental illness.

And that's just the first episode.
