I'm a life-long movie aficionado and student of all aspects of film. I'm also a fan of many TV series from the 50's and 60's, along with a select number of more recent cable TV offerings. Although I enjoy films of every genre, my true passion lies in the classic Film Noir period from the early '40's through the late 50's. I'm a huge fan of Robert Mitchum, Orson Welles and Humphrey Bogart. I'm fascinated with the substance and diversity in Bogart's career body of work, specifically his range displayed in cast-against-type roles. Directors whose work I admire are far too numerous to list, but the top of any list would include Hitchcock, Welles, Wilder and John Huston. An attempt to list the enormous number of films, TV programs and the countless people involved who've had an impact on me is quite futile, so I've simply tried to portray a sample of my preferred taste. Thanks for reading and feel free to share by PM.

The Defining Works of Hitchcock

Hitchcock's preference for dark - and often taboo (at the time) - subject matter, along with his adroit ability to manipulate the viewers' emotions with roller-coaster like tension earned him the well-deserved title of "Master of Suspense." I've chosen 15 films that I think best exemplify the unique style and sheer genius of the legendary filmmaker. They're ranked in order of my preference.

Among the countless, ongoing debates and subjective perceptions of what does or doesn't quantify true Film Noir, the validity of these twenty-five films could never be questioned.
*Note: I've excluded Hitchcock and foreign films (for future use in alternative lists).

Some have starred in their own titles, most have been supporting players, and a few are known from one defining role, but all are essentially synonymous to Film Noir. Here is a list of the men, instrumental in their contribution to the art form.
Bogart: 10 Against Type

Many fair-weather fans know Bogey merely as a ruthless gangster and/or the cool, anti-hero private eye, but this is only one side of the great actors' range. Most of his best performances - and his lone Oscar - have come when cast in roles demanding a variable range of emotions. Here's a listing of my favorite 10 of those roles, which he nailed perfectly and showed acting chops worthy of his status as one of the true icons in film history.
