Dreams Awake (2011)
A great positive movie
I absolutely love this movie. I wish there were more films with a positive spiritual message such as this. It starts out a little slow but once you get into it you get hooked. The scenery is magnificent and the soundtrack is great. I have not seen Erin Gray in a performance in quite awhile. The entire cast did very good job with their parts. Especially Tim O'Connor as the old mysterious sage of the mountain. The inner child message really hit home with me. From my own personal experiences it made so much sense and I believe it will with other people. The movie also gave me some hope about dealing with this deep issue. I don't want to give the movie away but Erin Gray was very believable during the climactic scene. When I first saw this movie I didn't realize there were so many layers involved in it. The more I watched it though, the more I understood these layers. I think that those who don't understand this, maybe have either not given it a chance or are not in touch with their inner selves as much. I recommend this movie for all ages and hope to see more positive movies with a good message in the future.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
A fabulous film
Although this is a 3 hr or so movie on waiting for death it is a lot more then that and is a real hidden gem. With the set design, performances and music really make this movie a enjoyable time. While death is a main theme of the movie its really a romance movie between death (Brad Pitt) and Susan (Claire Forlani). It ends up with there being a great chemistry between them with a very intense love scene. There are some real enjoying scenes where death takes the body of a human and slowly learns to be human having his boyish innocence. In exchange for a few extra days Brad and Anthony's character come to an agreement, a few extra days in exchange for a tour a life as a human. A funny scene was just seeing how much he enjoyed peanut butter and seemed to act like it was the greatest thing in the world. It is very easy to wake up every morning and complain about your life and how much better it could be. We can all find something wrong with our lives, it is human nature to. What are the things we can do to change the situation. How can we ensure that our life gets better? Is this really all that bad of a life? This movie asks us to realize that this life is a gift and we shouldn't take it for granted. Death is a by the book robot type of guy but by being in a human world acting like a human at the end he makes more of a human choice rather then a non human emotion. This movie should have won some academy awards it was deserving of so. This is a movie any movie lover should watch and have as part of their collection. Enjoy.
The Family Man (2000)
A enjoyable family movie
This was a heartwarming funny movie acted by Nicholas Cage. This movie is a lot similar to Trading places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd, where a rich man trades places with a poor man. This movie however Cage starts out as a rich guy working at a investment firm buying and selling companies. He works 80 plus hours a day doesn't have time to spend with family or wife. His main motivation in life is basically money and a lot of the movie is filmed in his office and pretty much lives there. Without regard of his employees calls in a meeting and makes them work over Christmas. He then ends up waking up one morning as a middle class family man with a blue collar job and he is the only one who remembers who he use to be. As he is getting use to his possible new life and then come the funny and sad scenes between the characters. The main idea of the movie was to show a person who is rich in material objects doesn't mean they are rich on the inside. By the end of the movie he starts to realize that love can be more important than money and a simple like may have greater rewards like a family. Great movie a must see for family viewing.
Vanilla Sky (2001)
A great psychological movie.
This was a thoroughly enjoying movie. I can understand how some people did not like this movie, probably the actors or that it is a real thinking movie with some twists that you have to pay attention to. This movie is a mix between a mystery, adventure and a romantic comedy and just a good all around story. The Tom Cruise character is a man that have everything anyone could ever want and more, he ends up loosing it and then gets a second chance with a catch. In the end facing all his demons and the full scope of all that is happening around him forces him to choose simplicity and reality. So that finally he can find the one thing he could never really get and thats happiness. As far as story lines go Tom basically inherits his dads company and has a 51% stake in the company. Since the board does not think he deserves the company he is constantly ad odds with them and himself living a meaningless life with a shallow Cameron Diaz. At his birthday party he meets Penelope Cruz who he instantly falls for. The morning after the part he ends up making a decision that will change his life forever and he soon finds out there is no going back. Tom Cruise does a fabulous job in this movie showing that he does have some range and seems that he has possibly been type-casted and should be given a more variety of roles after this. Penelope Cruz does a outstanding job playing the object of Toms affection. She brings a alluring innocence to the role that complements her character and makes her forthcoming and accessible, yet lacking any sense of mystery. Cameron Crowe knows how to get the best out of his actors and does a great job with Cruz. Cameron Diaz looks better then ever sizzles on screen. Make no mistake she delivers a complete package performance with her character. Her performance can be measured by having just a limited time on screen still leaves unforgettable performance. Half way through the movie really starts to question your sense of existence, but by the end all will be revealed. It is definitely wild, reality bending entertaining experience. That you will have to see to believe the unique experience this brings.
