The Rookie (2018)
started well
Please, God. Put this turkey, its wooden actors and unimaginative scriptwriters out of their misery, please.
I have never seen a series descend from good / excellent to dismal / appalling in such a short passage of time.
What happened ???
Everything seemed to be going well until the relationships started firming up. There seemed to be a concerted effort to bolster the female characters' importance to every situation at the expense of their significant others.
Anyway, this latest episode, featuring Dim and Juicy, means 'lights out' as far as I'm concerned. To paraphrase the Bard "Farewell, sweet Rookie, may Angels sing thee to thy rest"
Deception (2018)
continuity much??
Just watched episode 3 - check out minute 29 - it goes from mid afternoon to late at night in a couple of minutes
Hard Sun (2018)
A promise of a good season 2 ?
********************** SPOILER ALERT *********************************
I wrote this after watching Ep. 6. So, if you haven't got that far yet...........
I watched this with interest and enjoyed the first couple of episodes. unfortunately, I'm left wondering (after watching Ep. 6), whether I was watching a pre Apocalyptic World or a series of stand alone episodes on the problems of running two family set ups side by side.
There's a fair amount of reasonably gratuitous violence, no sex as such (although one f the wives in the menage-a-trois is pregnant and there is the occasional sight and sound of artfully concealed limbs thrashing about in a poorly lit bedroom)
However, the "Hard Sun" event that is intended to polish off the world 5 years hence, seems to be just an afternote in most of the episodes. Deyn and Sturgess worked very well as an unlikley Detective pairing and the way the dynamic between them changes over the 6 eps is done very well. Indeed, I found the characterisation and the interpretation of their characters that the cast brought to their performances was on a par with the best I've watched and a substantial cut above most of the offerings, past and present.
I am only puzzled now by the ending of Ep 6, which apparently shows the Sun getting a wee bit 'hard' as it seems to appear at nighttime, so, by the time Season 2 (or the next episode, whatever) comes around, maybe it will all be over.
If they don't improve the scripting and put in more 'punch' plot-wise and a bit less 'punch' action-wise, then maybe no Season 2 would be a mercy killing..........
