I'm a fan of Passengers. Thought provoking, moving, character-driven. I've noticed in a few reviews, the functionality of the ship is questioned since passengers are supposed to be asleep until they reach the planet. The entire ship and it's functions are automated and programmed to turn on when human presence is detected from the moment Jim Preston awakes and is greeted, the entire ship has received notification that humans are now awake. So when he goes to the orientation, his action of walking into the room triggered the pre-programmed orientation. The same with all other functions on the ship. Any special feature on the ship, like identifying a star constellation, would be functioning because human presence was detected.
